Oh dear, it doesn't sound like Tiffany had the best of experiences with this place. I on the other hand find it very difficult to fault. It's lovely to have somewhere like this just a moment's walk away, and I'm a regular popper-inner. If anyone is familiar with Wally's deli in Cardiff city centre, then this is like the miniature version. It has a grand selection of meats and preserves and everything good and bad for you in between. The main problem with it is the pricing of some items. I suspect this is because the items themselves are exceptionally good quality and are all local sourced, but some things are just sadly out of my price range. The freshly baked bread, however, any most delicious items, and well within it, and well appreciated!

I've never been to Pearl of the Orient before, but I really loved their neighbouring bar's food so was happy to try this place out for the special occasion. The food itself was 5 stars, but I'm taking 1 star off due to speed and portion-size. ~ Atmosphere: If you're looking for a fancy night, Pearl of the Orient really gives it. Sleek and classy, this place has all the makings of an upscale restaurant. Probably the poshest Chinese restaurant I've ever been in! ~ Customer Service: The customer service was great, but the speed was really slow. Granted, we came on Chinese New Year which also happened to fall on a Saturday night, so I can't speak for the speed of the service for other times, but we waited over an hour for our food to arrive. As I recall, Ba Orient didn't take as long with the food so it could've been entirely that the kitchen couldn't handle the packed hall of diners, and some of the chefs may have been off themselves to celebrate the New Year. So, the long wait times may possibly not be a regular thing. ~ Food: Absolutely gorgeous. I'll be honest, since I moved to Cardiff from California, I really had to lower my standards on quality Chinese food since there's little to no competition for an authentic Chinese restaurant. However, Pearl of the Orient's food is probably good enough to hold its own even in San Francisco! The Hong Kong stye crispy roasted pork was heavenly and the sea-spiced aubergine was out of this world! The meal was so delicious and you can definitely taste the quality. The only disappointing thing is the portion sizing! I ordered 7 dishes total for 3 people which normally should've been plenty, but everything was in such small portions that we were only filled up when we ordered an extra dessert. Great tasting food, but if you're looking for a Chinese-style "feast", then you definitely need to order a lot more. I would've added more orders on, but with the wait times we decided in the end to not bother. Oh yeah, for the dessert, go for the fried custard buns. OMG! --- Overall, I'm happy to give Pearl of the Orient a try again. It's a tad bit expensive, but in my opinion you're paying an extra surcharge for the magnificent decor and atmosphere. The food is incredible, but you might want to order a lot more than you had originally planned. However, if I come back another time and the horrendous wait is still in effect, I would have to pull the rating down.

The flavours unleashed were incredible as you would expect from a middle tier restaurant, you can expect to pay at least £20 a head but it is well worth it, try to avoid to much rice don't buy it just because its what you usually do. The point is to try many different meat, fish and poultry dishes not fill up on rice. The dishes come out on these little trays with fairy light candles to keep them warm a nice touch and practical. I would go as a group of 4 maybe a double date and be spontaneous try many new dishes you've never thought of having the taste is amazing. I would recommend going for special occasions, meals with family members or the introduction to the in-laws or celebrating engagement. If you are going for a birthday party It might take to long for the service, Its your call.

It was probably way I went. Looking for surly spices going around burning people and collecting ASBO's sounded like a good night out if I'm being honest. Much to my dismay it was far more civilised than that and found it to be a Thai restaurant too. I like Thai as I'm newish to it and am still finding myself ordering whatever looks good rather than going for a usual dish I like. Beef with hot thai bean sauce was my weapon of choice and I wasn't disappointed. There was a small Spicy riot in my mouth, but nothing I couldn't handle and found it very tasty indeed. The staff were polite and served as well, nothing out of the blue though. It did take a little longer than I would of liked but that may of been due to the large number of bodies that were taking up my air and my time, so it was understandable.

The interior is modern and very well furnished. Not a typical, authentic setting for this kind of cuisine, it's still pleasant enough and certainly kept clean and in good condition. The staff here are friendly enough, although given the nature of buffet dining, there's pretty much very little they have to do. Staff are keen to offer refills on drinks, but this isn't entirely innocent. With the quite cheap prices on buffet food, the drinks are a little bit more expensive and carry a bit of a premium. The food is pretty average. That's an honest opinion. Really don't think it's anything to write home about, and i'd hardly call it authentic and flavoursome. The poor quality of the food is detrimental to the whole experience quite significantly. After all, you do go out to eat the food, not take in the surroundings.

Vibes and service were absolutely wonderful though including the price so it was a pretty conflicting experience. Pros First: - I think it's genuinely hard to find another Brazilian Steakhouse buffet with vibes like this anywhere else in the UK or the States. £25 for AYCE is quite a good deal especially with the variety of meats they do have. - Cinnamon Pineapple - I could not stop eating this and definitely the best item of the night as the juice of the pineapple was crystalized within the cinnamon. Hot tip: Use this as "sauce" for the dryer meats like pork and chicken. - Picanha Com Alho - This was the best meat item by far for the night. The fat was perfectly well incorporated into the meat which was extremely juicy and flavorful. - Service was great as our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. Seems like they were very busy though. - Gnocchi with Prosciutto and Asparagus - This was surprisingly delicious and I would actually order this at a restaurant. It was a little greasy though. Cons: - Most of the sides were very mediocre to bad. Steamed broccoli literally means that they just steamed the broccoli. - The rest of the meats also lacked flavor and were a bit tough to chew on at the end. When I asked for sauces to go alongside the meats, the special ones all were an additional charge and so I asked for BBQ sauce and it was exactly that, very American BBQ sauce. Overall, very okay Brazilian steakhouse. As long as you focus on the three items listed above you will not be disappointed but everything else was very okay. Come early as the place does pack up for later lunch.

We where staying in the area and fancied Chinese food and found that there was very little options or eateries available in this area. This Chinese restaurant didn't look or feel right on the inside and for a buffet place it even had the feeling of that even, the only nice thing that l spotted being the ornate Victorian design ceiling. On entering the restaurant there was a notice asking for payment before ordering that's usually a bad sign that's probably because if you saw the food it would have been a sorry looking buffet you would say no and walk away. The food was pretty awful none of the food that was on offer was or even resembled Chinese food, what on earth was chicken nuggets & potato waffles doing on a starter section of on the buffet never mind chips & spicy chips there also. If you want descent or authentic Chinese food look elsewhere than here as these guys are a bunch of ammeters.

To be honest, I didn't actually want to come for the buffet because Chinese food at the buffet is horribly disgusting and un-authentic, but I was with someone who didn't really want to try authentic Chinese food so didn't want to make things awkward by ordering a hotpot for myself. But you bet I *really* wanted that hotpot... After pushing the food around on my plate of all this food that my grandma would not recognise as cuisine from our culture, I decided to bite the bullet and order off the authentic menu - Mei Cai Kou Rou (Steamed Pork Belly w/ Preserved Veggies). Not the best I've had in terms of flavour (blander than most kou rous I've had) but the pork was still cooked very well. --- Overall, do not come here for the buffet. However, the authentic Chinese food they have available is quite delicious (though I've only had 1 dish). The only gripe I have is that I wish they did more to encourage Westerners in trying to delicious food traditional Chinese has to offer, I saw a lot of Chinese people there with the wonderful dishes but all the Westerners just went straight for the (gross) buffet because it was the easiest. Maybe if they made their authentic menu more accessible they could spread the authentic Chinese love?

In its defence, it's an 'all you can eat' restaurant that lets you blow out on a cloud for £3.99, and that includes dessert! The food is okay, and the service is really proficient.
