Here's why: Early last August we met with a sales rep to begin an order for blinds at our living room, dining room, and kitchen. It wasn't until mid-September that blinds were ready to install. During the install of the living room blinds, we discovered that they were not motorized, as we requested. Also, the dining room's large set of windows wasn't yet complete so they had to re-order those, too, because of lack of motorization. Finally, on Oct. 22, Mark installed our motorized blinds. One of 3 of the living room blinds didn't work, so he told us he would reorder the blind. Also, the blinds in the dining room operate the opposite direction we need. Mark said, "Oh well." Mean time they fired our sales rep. We have been pleading with owner, Gavin, ever since to correct this. He refuses to honor their 90-day warranty for a bad blind and then tells us in a google review that we should expect 100% satisfaction. Well Gavin, when will you make good on this.? You refuse to return our calls, emails, and even visits to your store! This is the worst company in Olympia for customer service. Steer clear and save yourself a lot of misery.

Don't conclude, as we did, that the issue is actually settled just because someone in the store assured you it was. The people you talk to in the stores are not the ones pulling the strings. The owners are the ones in charge, and they don't want to talk to you. You'll likely never see them or hear from them. 2. Inconsistent workmanship. They sell quality products but don't always do an excellent installation job. Some of their installers know what they're doing, but some are novices. The person who installed our bathroom floor did a perfect job the first time. The kitchen floor and blinds, however, had to be redone. Try to get someone with experience to do the installation. We found that it's best to be there during the installation process. If underlayment was ordered, you'll have no way to know if it was installed, unless you were observing the process. 3. Treatment of customers: Don't be fooled by the affability of the people you encounter in the stores. As a return customer, you are just a pawn in their money-making schemes. If you have a grievance, they won't want to hear about it. If you owe money, don't expect to get an invoice in the mail. They don't spend money on billing customers. If you are unaware of an unpaid balance, they'll inform you by sending it to a collection agency. Bottom line: The owners of Strait Floors want your business, but they could care less if they destroy your credit rating. 4. Consumer rights: Just be aware that they have the right to send you to collection without warning. As a consumer, you have few rights.

I originally was going to replace only two sets of hated vertical blinds...but Laurajean's selection caused me to "upgrade" to doing all of the windows in my town home (all of the other window treatments were builder's grade vinyl mini-blinds. Harrison Street is easy to work with...and fast delivery!'' There was a problem from the manufacturer with the width of a few of the blinds...and another manufacturer's problem with imperfections in the weave of one set of blinds for a patio slider. Laurajean and her installer (husband) Jim took care of everything to my satisfaction. Be sure to hold your sample up to the light - some of the blinds aren't as "view blocking" as I expected from the outside when the inside lights are on, but fortunately my town home is situated where there's next to no foot traffic passing by those windows.

Since then, Linda & Ed Bauer have given special attention to every room in our house, one way or another, bar none. This includes beautiful draperies in the dining room and very special draperies in one of the bedrooms. The latter are "re-purposed" purple velour which was removed from the Port Angeles Elks Ballroom when it was remodeled (Bauer Interiors did their new draperies). Everyone that sees them is totally impressed. Bauer's are responsible for Venetian blinds throughout the house. When one of them malfunctions, which is not often, Ed is always there to adjust it. Our consultant, Daphne, was a great listener and thoughtfully evaluated our situation and concerns (light filtering vs black out for an upstairs guest room with high windows and skylights. Our concerns were insulation/energy for this project). She measured using a laser system which is fast and extremely accurate. She also brought her own ladders. We looked at my wall colors and she gave me her opinion as I was on the fence. Within a few days, Daphne sent a detailed quotation including several options as I wasn't sure which way to go. The quotation included information on the lifetime warranty, US-made product, and Costco Shop Card (which is truly awesome!) We made our decisions on color and styles and were able to pay/place order online. Daphne came back out as soon as the blinds were received and even managed to squeeze us in despite the busy holiday season.
