I have some experience in the building trades and was impressed by what I saw both in the quality of work and by the simple fact that unlike many Contractors/Subs these days, when Spane's crew got started, they didn't stop until the project was finished. In early 2025 I decided I wanted to build a 30'x32' shop at my house for my own use. I got bids from 5 different contractors and I decided on Spane for three main reasons: First, in my initial and subsequent meetings with Michelle, their designer and estimator, I learned she was very knowledgeable, personable, and very easy to work with. She took me through the entire design/build process from the beginning to the end, cheerfully answered my questions and put up with me changing my mind several times during the process. Because of her thoroughness, there were no surprises from start to finish. She made it easy. Second, Spane's bid came in the lowest, but I thought it was reasonable as I had done my own estimate of materials and labor based on current costs. (Unlike some of these Contractors around here who jack their bids up to try to make a years profit from a 2 month project...) Third, and most important, over the years I had seen for myself the quality of their work and at the end of my build, my new shop is exactly what I expected and exactly what I wanted. In today's world, Spane actually understands and pursues customer satisfaction and I can't recommend them highly enough.

This past week the same two men painted the exterior of our home. It was a total color change with several modifications of trim work. They did their normal remarkable work. The preparation of the areas , to be painted, were protected with either paper or plastic in a way that proved to be extremely effective. There was no overspray, spillage or any other damage at any time during their work. Their attention to detail is "top shelf". The CM Nissen team did excellent work on several projects at our home, which included remodeling…read moretwo bathrooms and rebuilding a deck. The work required tricky integration of new and existing materials and designs. Throughout, Nissen's craftsmanship and communication with us were first rate. We were impressed with their high standards, hard work, technical knowledge, creative problem-solving, good humor and timely and respectful approach to the work. Nissen's small team is highly skilled and able to handle varied tasks with minimal subcontracting. They have excellent knowledge of materials, sourcing most supplies locally while ordering several large deck replacement posts from Idaho. Nissen's approach to layout of unusually large and heavy tiles for one shower was ingenious: the team worked out the entire pattern flat on the ground in our yard, moving around different pieces to maximize design flow across tiles before cutting and installing. We are happy with the results and would be pleased to use CM Nissen again!

This is an update to a review that I left a few years ago. While Mike called back and sent a crew…read moreback out to make repairs, he also admitted that the co-owner should have been on the job site the entire time. He was on site during the repair. The awning WAS damaged when one of the workers, while pulling hard to remove the old siding, lost his balance and stepped back off of the platform placed to protect the awning, coming down hard. I am happy with the repair to the repair. Just wish that I had not had to go through the hassle. I have seen other work that they have done nearby and it appears to be well done. I did go to update the review after the repair was made. Apparently that is not something that can be done...at least on a phone.
