We used GM for both siding and exterior paint, at first they were extremely communicative, friendly, and the siding project itself seemed to go fine other than a few mishaps. With the siding, we loved how it looked but the work crew lacked professionalism. They left nails all over our yard, ripped bushes out of the ground on a carefully lined walkway, and pulled our front bushes down so aggressively they've never come back up and will have to be ripped out. The nails were a huge concern because we have a dog, and had we run one over with a mower that could have been dangerous for us as well. Months later we are still finding them. The contractors did compensate us for the bush they trampled. On to the paint. The painting contractors were awful from start to (never really) finished. They were unprofessional, left things in our trees and bushes, left garbage around our house and yard, trampled the bushes we had just replaced from the contractors (we weren't reimbursed this time), moved our fence post to a crooked location that we can't fix. Beyond that, we had a dark gray color with white trim, if you've ever painted over a dark color with white you know you have to have MANY coats to not have seep through of the darker color. For some reason, they painted all of it the dark color and then went over the trim with white, so in many areas you can see the bleed through of the gray. It looks tacky and like we DIY'd it. Additionally, we asked for the garage to be painted white and they painted it dark gray like the house.. when we asked them to fix it, they didn't open it to paint so as soon as we opened the garage it cracked on the bending panel and the insulation came out. I got in contact with the contractors right away and Kara said she would send someone out. She didn't, and that was now almost 3 months ago and they've completely ghosted us with a broken garage. They've also left their porta potty in front of our house this entire time (3 months and counting). Our neighbors across the street also hired them for siding and paint and they've also completely ghosted them for the paint. We initially would have recommended them but they ended up screwing us over so I'd go anywhere else.

The high sloped ceiling in the room had an odd shingled texture, deeply grooved, which we wanted removed before applying fresh paint. The renovation was complicated by wood beams which needed to be kept product and paint free. J&R spent much of the first day on prep work (plastic sheeting to confine dust, floor coverings, tons of taping) which really paid off. We had three different major projects to get bids upon and Julio was one of the several construction company representatives who responded to our calls. He was on time for our in home meeting and impressed us with his attention to detail while considering the work and materials needed to complete the jobs. Julio was able to give us a comprehensive bid on each of the projects (flooring, siding and construction of an external awning/sun shade) detailing a prospective time schedule if we chose to hire his company. He was also able to offer us a discount if we decided to hire his company to complete all of the projects. This made good sense to us as it would save confusion in resources like dumpsters, vehicle parking, porta potties, ETC if we had different entities working at the same time. The work contract was easy to understand and there were no surprises throughout the whole process. Julio also provided all the necessary legal documents to show he had proper licensing and insurance for his company and workers. All the individual workers who Julio sent to our home were professional, courteous and efficient. The building supplies were ordered properly and we were promptly notified about the impending deliveries The demolition and removal of our old poor quality siding was done quickly and skillfully and at the end of every workday, the workers cleaned every bit of scrap and all the sharp nails and pieces of wood that would have been a hazard to us and out pets. The siding crew that wrapped our stripped house was great and the crew that cut and attached the Hardie board siding was amazing in their skillful technique. The painters did an excellent job and got everything right, down to the smallest of details. The awning project was initially not what my wife expected but Julio quickly understood and directed his crew to make the necessary improvements getting it just right. The same work ethic and and attention to detail was applied to the removal of our old, worn-out and stinky downstairs carpeting. After stripping the floors bare, the cement was leveled and prepped for the tile we had chosen from the business that Julio had recommended. The relatively big area was tiled, sealed and new baseboard was attached. During the entire renovation project, Julio was in constant contact with us and he was onsite at least once if not several times a day while the workers were present. The payment plan was clear and simple with no unexpected surprises at the end. I would highly recommend J&R NW Construction for anyone considering a construction or renovation project in the Portland area and would definitely hire the company again for any future projects.

We felt the most trust in him and his experience out of the bunch. Beyond that, the quality of work and communication was top notch. After replacing the siding, some trim, and a few areas of rot, he brought in a paint crew the next day and knocked out the full paint job in just a couple of days. We have some pretty mature plants around the home and he took great care not to damage them. I will most definitely hire he and his guys again. They rocked it out. Pretty cool he is working on 2 neighbors houses this week as well.

If it was not for David at Blue Star my 50-year-old home in the West Hills might have become a…read moretoboggan by now. Several years ago he rebuilt and greatly upgraded the foundation of my home on stilts. This year it was apparent that my front deck was badly rotted and sagging. When David showed me the extent of the dry-rot damage from old repairs, I was concerned that it might be unrepairable, but in a week of 11 hour days he was able to repair and strengthen the deck and add a new foundation to last another 50 years. A job well-done, and I'd recommend him to anyone - he's a real pro at his specialty.
