Beautiful course but, the golf carts need updating. It's a challenging course if you are playing there for the first time.

Fairlawn Golf Course

I've been going to this course for a few years now - but this year has been rather horrid for a…read moremultitude of reasons. - pace of play has dramatically slowed. Too many groups on the course at a time, and a lot of these groups have little etiquette / are slow and unskilled. Pace of play recommendation is 4 hours, but prepare for 6. As a result, 3 times this season I have paid for 18 only to play 9 to 11 holes and give up due to the horrible pace of play and skill set ahead of me. - unskilled groups (t-shirt golfers) I think the dress code enforcement has been decreased / isn't applied anymore. Therefore, you end up getting a ton of "scrubs" / "T-shirt golfers" out there, slowing everything down. I blame both of these issues as a result of dramatically increasing the number of memberships being handed out. Further, since Prospect Hill in Auburn closed, I would assume the newbie golfer type decided to colonize Fairlawn :( I recommend Fox Ridge in Auburn - it is marginally more expensive but you do not find yourself in the same predicament (long waits, etc.). ---------------------------------------------- HOWEVER - I WOULD BE WRONG TO NOT TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY DO RIGHT! Great staff - always polite and have personality. Not afraid to chat with you. I love feeling welcomed when I arrive. Good food! Generally great course conditions - the fairways are generally pretty good unless it's been a wet week or overly hot. In those cases, you may experience mud or yellowed, dry fairways. Of course, you can take relief under the rules of golf for "abnormal course conditions". These issues are at every course - simply because of where we live. Fairlawn is great, but I think the issues outlined above are preventing me from making this my "home" course. I could be persuaded otherwise, but I doubt that management can put the "cat back in the bag" so to speak.

My husband and I were so excited to discover Taber's mini golf. Who knew that Auburn, ME was such a…read moremecca for mini golf, with both Roy's and Taber's within 5 min of each other?!? (For the record, both are great in their own unique ways, and they combine to make an excellent day trip to Auburn). We came to Taber's on a Saturday evening and it definitely was busy - it seemed to be all locals as opposed to tourists, as the parking lot was 100% Maine license plates. Even with the slight crowds, we still didn't have to wait too long on any given hole, and we were able to use the extra time to soak in all the cool sights of this mini golf course. The mini golf course is beautifully maintained (not gonna lie, I LOVE a nicely manicured mini golf course where the greens are in tip-top shape), with lots of carvings of animals sprinkled across the course to set the scene. They even had a cute little fairy garden around one of the holes! The best part though was that, at around hole 9, you get an *epic* view - I'm so glad we came here around sunset, as we ended up getting some beautiful pics of our group with the lake in the background. It truly is an exceptional property, with a HUGE lawn and a driving range as well. This is one of those mini golf courses that will please both the serious golfers (the greens are so nicely maintained that the course feels fair if you want to have a competition within your group) and newbies (plenty of variety across the holes to keep things interesting for all). After mini golf, we grabbed a bite here as well. While we originally ate here because of the convenience (we worked up quite an appetite after 18 holes!), we were pleasantly surprised by the food. The hot dog was A++ (I am kind of a hot dog snob...), the fries were hot and shoe-string style (basically like an upgraded version of McDonalds - and I mean this as a compliment!), and the grilled cheese was perfect (I think this is the first time I've ever seen a round grilled cheese!). The food prices really can't be beat either. My husband and I have visited 100+ mini golf courses across the country, and this little spot in Auburn, Maine really impressed us and ranks high on our list of best mini golf courses in Maine.
