In my quest to explore the various cuisine scenes throughout Jersey City and specifically the Heights, I made my way to Fox And Crow. Like Corkscrew Bar, I've had this on my bookmark list since I started visiting my friend a few years ago when she moved out here. I always loved a neighborhood bar (sports in this case) that also served food (and live entertainment, too!) so I could hang out with the local people. Would I have anything to crow about, or would I be as sly as a fox and just sneak on by!? PURCHASE Brunch Spicy Bloody Mary ($8.00): I wasn't a huge bloody mary fan (I was traumatized by V8 tomato juice growing up), but it just sounded good on this particular day. It was a fairly simple straightforward cocktail that lacked the elaborate bells and whistles that could be found on Instagram... and I was fine with that. The spiciness nicely cut some of the tomato juice taste which was a plus, the celery stalk was lip, I wished thee wee oe olives, the lemon wedge seemed to serve no purpose, and I felt there was too much ice. Came here on a Sunday night to watch the game- small and unassuming on the outside but very cozy inside! Loved the decor! I got the cheese and veggie quesadilla and my fiance got the old blue burger with a side of the foxy fries. I also got the signature cocktail "love my way" which was excellent! Only reason not to give 5 stars is the limited menus and the fries were steak fries (which are massive) but some were slightly undercooked and not as crispy as we would have liked. I have been wanting to check out this bar as it is close to my home. I have walked past it a couple of times and have always seen people going in or dining in their outdoor dining area. I ate inside with my friend. We both had ciders and shared two appetizers. We ate cheese quesadillas and boneless bbq wings. Both appetizers were delicious. Great spot to grab a beer or to hang out with friends watching sports. What a nice hidden gem found! I visited some friends in Union City on a nice day and we wanted to be out and have a few drinks. Luckily this place has outdoor seating because we came with a puppy! The staff were super friendly and recommended specials such as the happy hour we were able to catch. Definitely coming back here during a nice summer day! read more

Id like a type of chipotle ranch or sriracha mayo next time. i also grabbed the 2 for $10 tacos sounded like a good deal, but i wasnt too impressed with the tacos. my biggest complaint was the corn tortilla, they were raw. would have been nice if they were lightly toasted. tacos were overall small, not too packed. the chicken one was slightly better, but still felt like i could have had more chicken in here. the blackened tuna was cold. in fact it didnt feel blackened at all. it felt more like a cold ahi tuna steak that was very rare. this also was pretty skimp on filling. i left hungry. would i come back? I first went to Fox & Crow for the first time a few years ago with some Jersey friends. I remember it being a cool, low key spot. I really dug the vibes and haven't been back til last night. I just did pick up this time. I actually forgot what the inside looked like, so it was cool to see it again. Nice, small, intimate setting with decent vibes and a bar. They had a nice crowd for a Wednesday night. It almost made me reconsider doing pick up and dining in instead. When I entered, the bartender saw me and asked if it were table for one. I told her I was there for pickup. She then asked my name. I told her, and she gave me my order. Super quick and convenient. I mean, it also helped to check Seemless to see when my order was ready. I ordered the spicy crow sandwich, which is also what I ordered a few years back. I'm just a sucker for a good chicken sandwich. This sandwich from Fox & Crow was interesting with a pickle celery relish, Chipotle Mayo and avocado. It came with hand cut fries which were pretty good. The chicken sandwich was nice and crispy, but lacked flavor. I feel the chicken breast itself could've benefited from salt. It was bland, but you betta believe I ate that whole thing. I added some salt of my own, but it's never the same as seasoning the chicken before you cook it. That was my only complaint about it. I'd try something else next time sure. read more

Been here a handful of times for the music events they hold in the back room, however, I'd only eaten here twice. I have to say I haven't been impressed. First dining experience I had gotten the Classic Burger. Overall good burger, but nothing worth raving about. I'm also not a fan of their fries. They're like logs on a plate. Dined there for a second time this past weekend and got a Chicken Quesadilla. Also nothing to rant about. My boyfriend order the Brekky Burrito which came with a side of black beans. As a Latina woman I was a bit offended. They had an odd flavor and none of that sauce you usually find in beans. Wondering if perhaps they got burnt? This is a place I used to pass by along Palisade Avenue everyday but I never went in there until yesterday when a friend invited to watch a band play there. Fox & Crow is across the street from the Firestation on Palisade avenue. At first it looks rather unassuming from the outside but I enjoyed the warm and welcoming staff inside. The wooden interior puts you at ease right away. Their music area is in the back and the waiter was a great guy with filling drinks and food orders. Recently got take out here..and I have to say that their chef does not understand what a medium rare burger is. Came here with my friend and I ordered the chicken sandwich, whereas she got the Cajun burger medium rare. The chicken sandwich tasted really good! Perfectly crunchy and the sauce was good. Didn't even know this place opened so you know I had to try the new spot. I ordered delivery so I can't comment on the aesthetic and vibe of the place. I ordered the burger which came with caramelized onions. It was good but needed cheese. The onions didnt give the burger enough flavor. It was undercooked for medium. Onion rings were very good though and you can tell then hand batter them and are homemade. The fries were too thick for my liking but freshly made. I don't like biting into a full potato when eating fries. We also ordered the beet salad and it had more lettuce than beets which is a pet peeve of mine. If its a beet salad make it about the beets! My wife ordered the Black bean burger and it was ok. It tasted grainy and needed more seasoning to make it work. I could tell they have passion for what they do. They could take shortcuts and not make their own onion rings or fries but they do it the right way. I've received both delivery and dine in from this restaurant. Dining in we were greeted outside on a busy and chilly Friday night. There is not many indoor options for tables with stroller seating available but the server made accommodations rather quickly and got us seated. My fiancé and I enjoyed Arts nachos with added chicken and guac, and onion rings! They were so crispy and delicious. We filled up on apps so we split a cheeseburger which came with house cut steak fries- delicious. We also had beers. Great service! Loved this place for years. Great drinks, food has declined some since the last time I was back, but the real issue is the new point of sales system they're doing. One, you are hawked by the server and secondly, we had left some tip on the card and we're going to leave some cash before we left but before we could even do so, the manager came over to tell us our tip was low and asked if there was a problem... By now it is apparent to me I definitely have a love hate relationship with Fox and Crow. There have been a few recent new arrivals to the Heights since Fox and Crow opened in 2015, so I may have a little more perspective on new bars/restaurants in the neighborhhod at this point. I like Fox and Crow as a restaurant. I find their food to be expensive, but the portions are large and the quality is consistently excellent. I also like that they now have brunch and have added a few new items to their regular menu. I dislike Fox and Crow as a bar. The cocktails are hit and miss and while the beer selection is to my taste, it's pricey. Happy hour is from 5-7 during which time you save $1 off of mixed drinks and cocktails. An entire dollar. I love Fox and Crow as a music venue. They do a really good job booking talented musicians and having the option to lazily step out on a Friday or Saturday and see live music is a game changer for me. I was mistaken in my last review; there is no cover but I recommend making sure you have some cash on hand for when the band passes around their hat for donations at the end of the night. read more

I've come here a few times now and I've always been really satisfied. First off, their wings are bomb. Those are my favorite. I turn into an absolute disgusting pig when I eat them. At 2 for $10 I expected some fat tacos but the ones that were presented were overly regular sized. Easily the dopest bar in the Heights, even so that the folks from Hoboken trek up here to kick it as well. We've moved a couple towns over and still manage to find our way here. Service and is always pretty prime even when they're packed. Everyone is very attentive without being all up on us. The bartender even remembers us/our drinks comes and by and says hi when when grab a table. You can't go wrong with any dish on the menu, the Nachos or the Wings here are always in my starting lineup.The spicy crow is OFF THE HOOK!!! My only beef is that they don't have ranch and with fries that thick some ranch would do the body just right. Also, they've overcooked my burger on more than a couple occasions but the kicker is when they get the temp right (med rare), it's the best burger on JC/Hoboken. On the bright side i've discovered how BANGIN' the ribs are!!! Owww Owww Fox and Crowe, I like you as a new addition to the JC heights, I like you a lot. This cozy and dimly lit spot is just what the area needed. It's got a hip and effortlessly cool vibe yet still manages to fly under the radar and has an aura of exclusivity. Only a matter of time until this place blows up and becomes a local fixture. They've got a really diverse selection of tap brews and I ended up going with a Carton Brew 077XX. The menu mainly features various burger selections, but if you don't fancy meat there are other between-the-bread options like crab cakes and a black bean burger. I went with the classic cheeseburger. No thrills, no frills- just meat, cheddar and caramelized onions. Exactly what I was craving- nailed it. The BF sprung for the black bean burger with avocado, a bit out of character for him to take the veggie route, but he ended up finding a new fave. Both of our burgers came with a side of fresh cut fries. They were thick, crispy and salted to perfection. A tad oily for a 10 pm dinner, but hunger was calling. Food was decent, but there wasn't much to choose from. Burgers at 14 dollars a pop or a beet salad are the only moves you can make here. Excellent service. Fun atmosphere. Flavorful food. Creative cocktails! Thank you to Melissa, Ryan and Sara Grace for the helpful local tips, being friendly and welcoming me to the neighborhood. I started my evening on the front patio with Purple Rain and a Cajun Spiced Burger. The drink was refreshing and a vibrant shade of purple. The burger was full of flavor and I enjoyed the fresh cut French fries. My only recommendation to the chef is that the crispy onion rings on the burger tasted old and cold. I love onion rings and so that was the first thing I tasted. I'm glad I looked beyond that one flaw because everything else was good. I discovered there would be LIVE music in their back parlour starting at 10pm and decided to stick around. That was a great decision!
