I brought two friends to Fowler's so they could try sponge candy for the first time, and there's really no better place for a proper introduction. The moment you walk in, it smells like what I imagine heaven smells like -- warm chocolate, sugar, nostalgia, all of it. The selection is huge: fancy boxed chocolates, classic bars, ice cream, and of course the famous sponge candy. Everything is displayed beautifully, and the whole shop has that charming, old‑school Buffalo feel. Staff were friendly and welcoming, happy to answer questions and let us browse without pressure. I did not expect the inside of the store to be so adorable. I had to stop and by some Easter chocolate. Three associates had helped me at different times, one was very knowledgeable about the chocolate, where it was based etc. I got all of my shopping done and bought fabulous items. Fowler's chocolate has great chocolate they are alittle pricey compared to Mike's like I said Mike's was so busy for Valentine's Day they ran out of chocolate so my husband went to Fowler's for dark chocolate with raspberry jelly! I stopped here just before noon today to get some extra gifts for my dad's 70th birthday. The employee was very nice, considerate, and friendly. I checked it on Yelp and there was a pop up for Yelp elites to get something free or discounted with another purchase. (I'm in Yelp now and didn't take a screenshot so I can't view it. I think it was sponge candy.) I showed the girl and she texted someone. She said she probably wouldn't get an answer right away. I told her that was fine and that I'd stop by before Mother's Day. I looked around some more and I ended up buying my dad orange chocolate bison, a Happy Birthday milk chocolate candy bar, an orange chocolate candy bar, two reduced white chocolate roses, and a small three pack of sponge candy. I bought my mom some milk chocolate bison and a small three pack of sponge candy. I wasn't expecting to spend so much but I can't help it, when I'm in a chocolate store! I suspected Fowl play when I first saw the prices of these chocolates. But now I realize that Fowler's are probably second only to Alethea's in terms of delicious Milk Chocolate Sponge Candy in the Buffalo region, which sort of is home to it, and where it was invented. Fowler's is very overpriced (like Alethea's), but unlike its crosstown rival, it has many locations, and is also used in Sponge Candy Ice Cream (made by local mega brand name Perry's). I'd definitely recommend trying Fowler's to anyone who likes chocolates, but bear in mind it will set you back a decent amount of money. This particular store is friendly and usually not too busy, but there are a few other locations I like even better. read more

Just had sponge candy from Antoinette's (Depew). Brother recently in Buffalo to golf and meet up with friends.Tried both milk chocolate and dark chocolate. They were really very good but there is something about Fowler's that keeps me coming back. Family lived in Buffalo for roughly 5 years and always brought sponge candy back to Chicago as a treat. Gotta say that for me, Fowler's chocolate is the best tasting. Love both the milk and dark varieties. Their plain and sea salt caramels are nirvana. Truffles are great, nuts are fresh. Almond butter crunch is a favorite. Will not refuse any as a gift but when buying for myself or friends/family, Buffalo sponge candy will come from Fowler's. read more

A very nice little shop that has a plethora of chocolates as well as ice cream. On this specific day, my fiancee and I were able to walk from our home about a mile away to Fowler's. Plenty of chocolates. The ice cream was very good, and reasonably priced. Picnic tables on the side of the building allow for outdoor seating. read more

Underwhelmed. Stopped because friends said we had to try Sponge Candy. Asked to try a sample. The cashier said she was out of samples. We made a small purchase that may have been a bigger one had she been empowered to open a fresh box. That said, sponge candy was good, but like a malted milk ball. There is ice cream available but the chocolates are out of this world, from the soft centered creams to the famous Truffalos. Buffalo shaped truffles. This store also has a rewards program where you are notified of special discount when available. I have been a member for over a year and only received one invitation to savings. I order sponge candy regularly from Fowler's since I moved out of Buffalo in 2003. Their chocolate is so creamy and rich! There's nothing like it here in CA, except maybe Ghirardelli, but again... you can't find sponge candy anywhere but Buffalo and this place has the best! I have had Fowler's chocolates many times and find them very tasty. I have been to this location before, and this is definitely a good place for if you are looking for a theme-type confection. While they have the traditional per lb and boxes of chocolate, Fowlers has lots of molds and items that are perfect for certain occasions outside of the major holidays. From new babies, confirmations, a treat for mom/dad/grandma/the teacher/the bus driver/coach, a generic thank you or congrats, they have some sort of delicious chocolate item that follows that theme! They carry chocolate letters and numbers, small items as fillers for other gifts, and a large selection of Buffalo-themed items from candy bars featuring cityscapes, a Buffalo cookie cutter with chocolate in it, sponge candy, chocolate chicken wings, buffalo nickles, and more. They have some very nice variety packs put together if you want a fun sampler. I am sending one + a bar of orange chocolate over to England as a gift to represent Buffalo! Prices are pretty decent overall and they have sizes of items at all price points. The lady that was working was super friendly and pleasant and we had a nice conversation. Not pushy. Some may not realize they serve ice cream and it seems like the staff doesn't either! Everything is old...the peanut butter sauce was "too old to serve" and majority of the ice cream had freezer burn. The hot fudge was not even close to being hot and when we asked the counter girl she said "well it's on cold ice cream so it's going to be cold." I ordered a 3 scoop peanut butter cup ice cream sundae that tasted like mint and would hardly be considered a 2 scoop sundae. Another member of my family ordered the same sundae as me but (shocker!) they ran out of the peanut butter cup ice cream. It was obvious the supply was past its prime. Once we finished our less than stellar sundaes there wasn't a garbage can in sight. It was clear the lone employee was already prepared to close up shop even though the store was open for another 35 minutes. As an employee in the customer service industry she had a very poor disposition and occasionally gave us attitude when inquiring about our poor sundaes. Overall this was the worst ice cream experience I've had which is sad considering we were out celebrating a family event. read more

This place has one of the best chocolates I have ever tasted.. I'm being serious! Their sponge candy is so good, I bought two bags of it. Guess how long it lasted. Not even a week! 5 days and 2 bags were gone. Their Ice cream is good to, it's Perry's though, but still, it's good. Staff are really friendly and helpful. They helped me buy good chocolate that fit my price range. They're not too expensive, but bring a couple 10s or 20s with you just in case. read more
