That section alone will take you 1.5-2 hours. The last 5-6 miles are unpaved and combo with the narrow roads, with a small vehicle it can be difficult and most importantly nerve racking to navigate. It is not for the faint of heart. One guy who came in on an off road vehicle said to me "I can't believe you made it here" and another person I talked to on my last day said her mother freaked out so bad they were trying to find an alternate way home. There is a lake (obviously) and you can catch small bass. A man we talked to said there is trout earlier in the year when it is colder. There are no running toilets or showers so outhouse only. The yellow jackets are NO JOKE. I woke up the first morning and thought they were swarming my tent but no - they were swarming our table. I would say easily 30 yellow jackets at all times around our table until sunset and if I wanted to cook anything with meat, I'd just give up because the second I opened it, 30 bees would be all over it. There are a couple sites that don't have much shade. Our weekend here was quiet and relaxing. The other guests mostly stayed in their campers/rvs. The 100 degrees temperatures probably had something to do with it. The campground met all our needs. We setup camp here and then explore the surrounding Clearlake community outside the grounds. We went to lake, the local community park where there was a Shakespeare play happening. We enjoyed a farmers market about 20 mins away.

When I texted the host, I wasn't even asking for a refund--I simply requested a complimentary night for a future stay as a goodwill gesture. The request was immediately denied because of their "no refunds for early departure" policy. The issue isn't that we left early. The issue is that the campground did not provide the quiet, enjoyable experience that guests are paying for. Hiding behind a policy while ignoring the reason a guest is leaving is poor customer service and shows a complete lack of concern for the guest experience. If you're looking for a peaceful campground, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Called this place based on reviews and was greeted with the owner doing a training session with a new employee. I knew I was in a cool place because her training was spot on from this teacher. Her place is cool, clean, safe and run by her 2 sons and her. The pool is perfect! She offered us wine tasting of her wine which was so fun. Better yet we loved her wine- her back story is worth the stop if ever traveling on the I 5.

The town of Chester is about 10 miles away if you need a store for something. The campgrounds are close together. Which we don't really like. Each has a fire ring and grill to cook on. Tons of wood to scrounge for a fire but you'll need a burn permit which are free and good for the entire year. Be sure to secure your food as those cute but pesky chipmunks and squirrels will help themselves. We came before the season was open and it was wonderfully quite.

It wasn't too far from the restrooms and trash either. The drinking water was just across from us and compared to a state park or national park campground, it was pretty quiet. There is a paved hiking trail to Lake Almanor just across the entrance from the South Campground. On an early morning, I took a jog with my 1-year-old while the others were still snoozing and the weather was just perfect at 8:30 AM. Although I found that even for early July, it can get a bit cold in the early morning (1 AM-8 AM) in the tent. So pack extra blankets. There are no showers here, so you will have to find them somewhere else. Overall, this is a great spot to camp if you plan to go to Mount Lassen National Park or surrounding areas. There is a lot of space for the whole family at your campsite.

This site was small but we made it work. We had a van and a sedan and 3 tents. We were pretty close to other campers and it was quiet by 9pm. We were just steps away from the beach which is wide and mostly free from debris. We even saw whales! The location is great for watching sunsets. Bathroom is clean. Bring your own hand soap. No showers. Water spigot close by. You can get firewood on site. Closest grocery is Pelican about 15 minutes away. There's raccoons. They got into our cooler and ate our grapes and took off with our butter that was in a ziplock bag. Don't under estimate them. Use the wooden food cabinet or lock your coolers. Note: No cellular reception.
