The first shop says CV axles (which it was not), the second confirmed bad pinion bearing but was overly confident not to check backlash and preload. Third shop was under experienced with diff repair. At this point I was exhausted, down on my luck, having wasted $500 in inspection costs to no avail, I was about to scrap the chevy seeing my only option was to swap a reman axle for $4k plus labor. Then I called WD. Dave took the time to speak with me extensively about the issue and encouraged me not to scrap the truck but instead remove the guts for his shop to recondition at a fraction of the cost. They started immediately when I arrived with the parts and finished installing a total of 8 bearings and 3 seals in under 2 hours. Remarkable timing. There was an issue with the pinion support bearing being Chinese (which came with the kit and I would have had to install myself in the diff). I brought this to Dave's attention after I got home and he agreed to meet me half way to give me a USA made bearing. He stands behind quality so much as to make a trip. I mean, what shop or mechanic does this? So I get it all bolted on and texted him the gear pattern. We spoke a bunch back and forth, but ultimately he approved the pattern. What do you know, the growling is GONE! David, Lynn, you guys are awesome! It is so difficult to find a reputable mechanic. Your shop stands against the stigma. 10 stars! Seriously.

Was on a cross-country trip from MN to AZ with a full car (family and all) and started hearing that…read moredreaded sound from my the rear differential... fortunately having some automotive knowledge I was suspicious right away of what was going on and managed to limp into Denver and find Dave and Western Drivetrain. We got there at 5AM. They were in the shop by 6:30, were diagnosing my car by 7, had a diagnosis/bid/time estimate to repair by 7:45. They had all the parts in stock. They dropped us off at a local restaurant to wait, picked us back up, and had the car done and we were gone by 11AM. I can't say enough good things about this shop and the team there. Kind, friendly, accommodating, quick, knowledgable and very fair prices. In addition to the great service, Dave also took the time to explain to me exactly what happened, why it failed, provided the pinion bearing that was the culprit, and wrote up a great summary of the issue. I was able to take that back to the team that had rebuilt the rear end just a year before and have a very honest, straightforward, simple discussion that resulted in a very satisfactory outcome that both me and the original shop were both satisfied with without and disagreement or debate. My hope is that I do not have to see them again (it would mean that I had another differential problem on a cross-country trip), but if I did, I don't think I would go anyplace else in Denver for this type of work. I recently inherited a car, and there was a question of whether its engine needed to be replaced. The first thing I found out about Colorado Engine is that they have the best deals. For my vehicle, they would install a remanufactured engine with 4-year no-fault parts and labor guarantee with no mileage limit, for $7260: $4365 for the engine and $2895 to install it. They have used engines available too. And they were glad to spend time explaining all the details on the phone - no rush.  I called two other places, and neither even offered remanufactured engines. They have mechanics who personally rebuild existing engines. The process takes about 5 weeks, costing $7500 - $8400. And their warranties weren't as good. So just call Colorado Engine first! (Unless you are particularly attached to your own personal engine.)  So I was getting ready to go ahead and get the engine. I figured it was either that or get a different car. But I couldn't make a different car work out financially. So I called and told them I wanted to start the process to get a remanufactured engine. And they said, "Can we look at your car first, just to see if it really needs the engine? Maybe we can fix it." So I said "Sure." I brought it in and they examined It. And it didn't need an engine! It only needed a radiator cap, and in the future, a fan clutch! I don't gamble, but I felt like I had won the lottery! These people are not only kind, but knowledgeable and honest, too!  So if your car needs an engine replacement, call Colorado Engine - you'll be very happy!

Honestly. They fixed my car a year ago for a water pump and over heating issue and then my car…read moreoverheated almost exactly a year later. I came in to see what happened and they said that the little plastic coolant pipes that go to the water pump were dissolving. I'm honestly quite annoyed because I feel like this is something that should have been noticed a year ago and I highly doubt this wear and tear appeared in a year on a car that already had 170,000 miles. I ended up going to another guy that actually cares about older cars (mine's a 2006) and he figured out it was another gasket in my engine, not a head gasket like they were claiming. Applewood wanted to charge me $4800 in total for a car I paid $3000 for. My mechanic was able to do it for $560 because he just replaced the radiator cap and plastic gasket that gets worn down at almost 170,000 miles each time. I also am a woman so when I called them they used a very sarcastic tone with me and kept gaslighting me on the issue. Sure a head gasket repair may have fixed the problem but I would have wildly overpaid. I added my inspection report that was wildly overstated and would have costed me $4800 for something that they should have already replaced or told me about considering they had replaced my entire water pump and the hose connecting to it.
