Why does that matter? Fast forward to now. The exhaust on the car was getting loud and seemed like it was "falling off." We obviously wanted to get this looked at, because the problem certainly wasn't getting any better and potentially breathing in carbon monoxide isn't good. A search turned up automotive evolution, so we went in at 8:30 am today - right on time for our appointment that we set via phone a couple of days prior. The staff were friendly and got the car looked at quickly. As it turns out, it muffler was basically falling off! The exhaust pipe was rusting through behind the muffler. On top of that, the muffler itself also had corrosion perforation / holes in it. No wonder it was sounding like crap and we heard it knock around over the horrible, pothole ridden colorado roads. My car was taken in at 8:30 am, and we had the car back before 11 am, closer to 10:30 am. The price for the exhaust work was reasonable and the quality of the parts and work seems very good. I like that they provide you with photos of the issue and give a report of what they find and/or recommend. Unlike a dealership or big national repair chain, there were no upsell attempts or pressure to pay for things I didn't need. Their price for oil changes appeared pretty in-line with local quick lube shops. The waiting area isn't bad: there are a couple of tables to sit at, a water dispenser with cups, and a restroom. It also sounds like they can make arrangements for rental cars if you need to leave your car for a more protracted repair. While I don't like spending money at a mechanic, that's the reality of having an older car. I definitely won't hesitate to return to automotive evolution in the future and recommend them to anyone who needs a car repair place.

Gary's worked with me to do battery testing instead of the whole battery of diagnostics Aux battery load testing was good but the impedance was low. Replaced and they checked a lot of other things. Giving me statuses and explanations and meaning all along the way in troubleshooting. That kind of communication instills trust and I appreciate it a lot!! Any ways the pricing was and no further errors. We'll give it a couple days for a wait and see. We have next steps for the other work that's needed. They recently checked out the car before I had a road trip and gave me a couple of "yellow flags" that could wait awhile but said I should be good to go, including my brake pads. My sister was driving the car into Santa Fe when she said the car was shuddering when she braked. Worried we were about to have something really bad happen, I pulled into a local place. Welllll...they totally swindled me: new pads, warped rotors, a torn boot, all sorts of stuff. The car was about to fall apart and strand us in the desert, clearly. Eager to move on to my next destination and not be stuck, I reluctantly gave them my credit card. I texted with Kerstin and let her know what happened. She called me back right away and explained in no uncertain terms that I was to go find a second opinion and not pay for anything (whoops, too late...I guess it's a norm at a mechanics not to pay for anything up front, unspoken rule). She checked with Joe about the recent diagnostic and talked me through the possibilities of what was actually happening with my car and supported me going up there and requesting a refund and only paying for what had been completed (new brake pads and rotors in back, still a ripoff for probably fine rotors and pads that were at 3.5mm but a more doable one). Yes, I felt like an idiot. Yes, initially they refused the refund and "had to call corporate", blah blah blah. But I probably saved $1700 in the process. Then, Kerstin stuck with me for doing basic troubleshooting for the shuddering. Joe proposed that it could be "bad gas", at one of the random stations we'd stopped at. He said that we could test filling up the balance of the tank with high octane Maverick gas (no ethanol). Would you believe that did the trick? All the car's symptom's disappeared (turned out it hadn't been shuddering upon brake, just shuddering in general). I completed my road trip without any issues and soon after went back to Gary's for a different test (discussed awhile back before all this went down for my aging car). They double checked the shady mechanic's work and said that they saw very little that needed addressing, and certainly nothing in the thousands. The car has driven fine since then. Anyway, highly recommend Gary's. They stand by their work!

Well in less the 10 mins they were done charged me $181.00 Gave me an estimate to change a MAF valve ( maximum air flow ) of $641:46 to change a two screws and a clip valve right on top of the engine. What really disgusted with this place was they said they looked at all 4 CV axles but never told me that both front tires were so worn down on the inner part of the tires that metal band was sticking out. I had taken my car to another local mechanic to diagnose a problem with the air conditioner. They…read moremechanic said that a house needed to be replaced, but they were not able to do it because they do not have the equipment needed to evacuate the existing refrigerant 1234yf. They referred us to the Kia dealer, which I knew would be very expensive. So I did some research online and found Franklynn Automotive. I called and described the situation to Steve. He said they likely can handle it, but would start with a complimentary second opinion. After their inspection, they determined that the hose does not need to be replaced and we only needed to refresh the refrigerant, which they do have the equipment for. In addition, the reason the other shop might have suggested the hose replacement was because of a leak related to the axel. All in, the repairs would be substantially less than the dealer quote for work that may not have been needed in the first place. Overall, great experience with Franklynn.

He was the reason I wanted to get the suspension serviced here as his explanation of what I needed done showed his mastery of his craft. However after taking the car to Tesla to get a 2nd opinion I discovered that this shop (not the tech) was trying to charge me literally a 200% markup on the parts to do the repair. Crazy right!!! The genuine Tesla parts for the repair were $209 and these guys quoted those same parts out to $614 (I sent him the estimate from Tesla with the exact cost of the parts). Unfortunately for me Tesla wouldn't work on the car because of an aftermarket body kit the previous owner had installed. I really liked the mechanic at this shop, so I went back to this shop with the intention to move forward even though their cost was literally 56% more ($1,635 vs $2,555) then Tesla for the same work (because of the price gouging on the parts). Then when I asked about it before my approval to move forward the manager got snarky and said how would you expect us to stay in business if we don't markup the parts. I said and I quote "I get a markup on the parts and your high hourly rate for the labor on the work but not a 200% markup on the parts." The guy gave an excuse about the software they use but was unwilling to budge on the price gouging. I literally said why don't you let me buy the parts directly from Tesla and you can still mark them up 25% and he still said no. I was completely professional throughout the conversation, but obviously would not pay a 200% markup on parts on top of the already top of market labor they charge. After the conversation he texted me back and we agreed to not move forward. I only leave this review to warn others. It's a bad business practice to over charge people like that and so I just wanted to give people my story warning them to watch out and be careful before doing any work here. Update: this slime ball's disclosure of all the information I gave his manager, Steve, in good faith is abhorrent. Everything he mentioned on the car was told to them right up front as I told it to the manager, Steve, in person and this clown is repeating word for word what I told his manager. I was cool with this at first but this guy is a complete scum bag now using my own words and lying about it. Anyways besides being a scum bag, no effort at all was made regarding the parts and this shops 200% markup. I literally told the guy running the shop I would buy the parts myself and let them mark it up 25% and still the answer was a quick no. Everything I said was honest and accurate and don't appreciate this guy claiming transparency when his long shpeel was essentially just a my own words complaining about the car I bought and his shops poor excuse for price gauging. They could have done the job without gauging me on the price given I had the option to buy the parts myself. Not cool at all the response from this guy and his piss poor excuse for attempting to rip me off.
