I am setting up an 8 3/4 Mopar differential and I needed some pinion shims (challenging to locate). I went to WD and talked to two of the employees about what I was doing. I bent my back axle a little later and brought my vehicle back in, they fixed it in a day. They are honest and know what they are doing. I have recommended multiple family members to bring their vehicles in and they all have been happy with their service. As a business owner, I especially appreciate this company! Dave, the shop manager saved me on a Friday afternoon! I was driving 8 hours to Denver for a wedding in my supercharged 86 when my driveshaft somehow snapped out of nowhere about 35 miles east of Aurora. After calling roadside assistance, I did a quick search and found Western Drivetrain. I'm so glad I did! I called Dave and informed him of my situation, he was very understanding and even gave me his personal number so we could communicate directly. I assumed roadside-assistance would have a tow-truck to me pretty quickly, but I ended up waiting 4 hours for a tow to arrive because the towing company that my insurance chose was all-around incompetent. It ended up being after 6PM before I got to his shop. Dave obviously really cares about a fellow person-in-need. I texted him updates along the way, and the garage door was open for me, with a lift waiting (on a Friday evening, they close at 5PM). The guys has my car on a lift within 5 minutes and I was able to see the problem. I let Dave know when I needed to be home and he assured me that he would make it happen. The next morning (Saturday), Dave called me with several options. Dave had a custom driveshaft made locally. The new driveshaft is stronger, cheaper, and retains the aftermarket one-piece design that was custom to my car. All of the guys were super accommodating and helpful. Great service from honest people. I brought in my 1969 Bronco to have a leaking rear end resealed and to check out a front end vibration at highway speed. They had my vehicle back the next day with everything working perfect. They even corrected some brake problems in the back that were done wrong by Brakes Plus at no cost. I took my 2013 Tacoma to these guys after going all over Denver trying to to find out why my truck was making a horrible grinding sound from the back end all other places told me they charged anywhere from $75 -$145 HR just to diagnose the problem, these guys did it for free , then the other places quoted me between $1000-$3200 to fix my problem , I got it fixed there for $300. Great experience with Western Drivetrain. Steve got my Blazer in almost immediately to diagnose drive-line slack. They diagnosed the problem immediately, got parts in to replace rear pinion, axles and seals, and were very clear on what did/didn't need to be done. Brought my 06 Tahoe in that had been making progressively worse howling noise from the rear differential. I had an appointment and Steve did an excellent job of keeping me informed of what was going to happen. Before I left he made sure I knew there was a small possibility that if I decided to have the work done after they gave me a quote it might not be finished by end of day, but it would be no later than the next morning. He called a couple hours later to let me know the carrier bearings were shot but everything else looked good. He gave me a quote of under $1000 (less than 1/2 of another quote I received from another shop) and said they could probably still have it done that day. I authorized the work (which also included axle bearings and seal) and sure enough it was done by 4:00pm the same day. I asked if I could see the old bearings and Steve walked me back to the shop and had the tech show me the bearings. Differentials and axles are all these guys do and they do it well! They warranty their work and as someone who does 90% of my own work on my vehicle I can vouch that they know what they're doing and are honest. I had my rear differential rebuilt here it lasted for about 4 months and cost me 2500. 00. These guy suck I rebuilt the same differential myself after doing some research and haven't had a problem since. I didn't call them back on the issue because I really don't need to hear the excuses and the bullshit. Lesson learned do it yourself and save your money. read more

It was a year ago that I visited to get a quote on my '98 jeep Cherokee I had recently purchased. It was making noise from the rear-end. They constantly condescended me by telling me my jeep was 'rusted out' and they 'hope I didn't pay much for it' as it would be at least $1500, up to $3500 to repair the rear diff after their test drive. The undercarriage on my cherokee is actually surprisingly corrosion-free other than some of the old CO suspension & steering components. Anyway, I was going to think it over so I picked up my jeep after-hours to take it home. Upon start-up, the jeep idled at 2200 rpm (it ran flawlessly when I dropped it off) so I knocked on the door to see if anyone was there. The door was unlocked so I stepped in and saw two men in the office, imbibing and laughing. I told them of the idle issue and they immediately became defensive and said they didn't even pop the hood so they were not liable at all. What they didn't know is that I am an ASE certified mechanic. I bit my tongue and took it home to figure it out myself. What I found what that they tripped the ECU by draining the battery and jump-starting it. I found fresh clamp marks on the battery as evidence of this. Guess they DID pop the hood after all, and had everything to do with this issue. Anyway I pulled off the neg battery cable and reset the ECU to fix it. Never had the issue again. Furthermore, I then took the jeep to another shop and they found the original culprit, a worn wheel bearing. A few bucks later the jeep was smooth sailing. Good thing I didn't shell out $3500 for nonsense from a company that lacks basic respect, communication skills, and honesty. I'm sure they treat you like gold and do decent work, if you blindly throw your cash at them. Full disclosure: they did say they would try to diagnose (at no charge) the issue, but at that point I had lost all trust in them. I was always cordial with them, yet they never called me back to see if the issue was resolved or if I wanted any work done. Guilty conscience I suppose. read more

My Dakota was making a metal on metal sound that was proportional to the speed it was moving. The faster I drove The k\louder and higher pitch the sound became. I discovered it was coming from the truck rear in the differential. I knew no one here in CO that I could call. My A.S.E. Master Tech. in IL led me to call these guys. I talked with Bill over the phone, with his expertise and experience he told me what it likely was and gave me an awesome price. I brought my truck in and they had it fixed in 2 days. Other places would have charged me closer to $2000, but Bill had it finished with LESS than $1000 (that's with the 5 hours labor).
