Super knowledgeable regarding the requirements of multiple passports of different countries. Kind of pricey. Wished they had the ability to take photos other than just for passports in store. Great quality. Loved how if you ask for advice, they aren't afraid to give it to you or send you to someone they know. Hashtag connections! Blown away by the magnitude of/number of customers coming in and out of the store. Different films available for purchase. Black and white is more expensive than color... When you call and ask where to park...they suggest Grocery Outlet (which is directly across the street) but that you should not exceed 1 hour. If you don't want to risk it, there's metered street parking as well. Why not 5 stars? The "welcome in" and "good bye" near the door is super annoying. Rather have "ding ding ding." Takes awhile to develop (specifically speaking for passport photos) but great quality nonetheless. Not much of a waiting space/area or a place to stand/sit (can get stuffy real quick). read more

Quick service and the employee was friendly and knowledgeable. I got a printed and digital passport photo for my Chinese visa in about 15-20 minutes. However, I was shocked when I was told it was $46. I definitely should've asked about the price beforehand because I wouldn't have gone if I knew. For that price, I expected at least some basic blemish retouching. Nice shop, but $46 for a passport photo feels like a rip-off. I probably wouldn't come back. read more

Really appreciate the speed of the film scans, as well as the quality of the scans. Make sure you bring a usb for the scans, and if you have any additional requests, be sure to note it and they will help you the best they can! Film is expensive now, but having a reputable store is important for getting the best photo quality. read more

Very sweet owners, quick turnaround time! I dropped off my film on a Saturday and was able to pick it up on Monday afternoon (they're closed Sundays). Film came out well (few blanks but those were probably on me) and color was beautiful. I paid for a USB as they don't do email of the digital photos, which is where the one star comes off for me (as a location in SoCal that I develop my film at sends the photos digitally for free). The total with the USB was around $30, not the cheapest but not outrageously expensive for the Bay. Reliable service, would come back for future film development! read more

The person that helped us out definitely is experienced. I love supporting small businesses and Foto Express is definitely a gem. They are one of the few photo processing stores left and they do an amazing job with all the services they offer. One of the services I absolutely love is the passport photo service. They make sure that your passport photo adheres to all the requirements and they even save your photos for several weeks just in case you need an extra printout. That's what happened to me when I had an issue with my passport application and they were able to reprint a passport photo for me during my emergency. He really took his time to make sure I was happy with the shot, which is rare for something as basic as a passport photo. The lighting was flattering and the quality was impressive. I previously won a FujiFilm Disposable Camera and immediately thought of Foto Express to develop my film. The process was very easy and the person in front was patient and accommodating with my pick-up schedule. My film + purchasing the flash drive was around $35. Been using Foto Express since December 2022 for 35 and 120 film, and have learned a few things: 1. Their staff is uniquely knowledgeable about film and how to shoot it, especially if you keep developing and/or scanning there -- I've gotten plenty of advice w.r.t. lighting for point and shoots, fixing stuck film, shooting gimmicky film (yes, I'm talking about Harman Phoenix 100). They're not shy about advice either, and are always game to answer questions. 2. Their Noritsu scanner consistently does so much better than my self-scans tbh. I've been using an Epson v600 as well as a DSLR scan setup with a Samsung mirrorless, which do okay, but you really get what you pay for with that Noritsu. Their scans are nice and neutral too, so it's easy to fiddle around with the files. 3. As I continue my photography journey, I do have a wish list for Foto Express. I do wish they pulled film, but that hasn't been too big of a problem except when I wanted to pull Phoenix after I shot it at 100. And it would be pretty cool if they stocked a wider range of film, or processed motion picture film with remjet removal. At the same time, I shoot standard 35mm and 120mm way more often than anything else, so I understand why Foto Express doesn't branch out too much. For everything else, there's Underdog Film Lab in Oakland or Photoworks SF., I guess! I love having a local photo shop and one-to-two day film scan+dev turnaround is incredible. I hope Foto Express sticks around forever 'cos I'll be going there forever. read more

I've been coming to Foto Express for about a year now! I originally wanted to find a film store better than Walgreens and CVS. Henry and the rest of the staff are great and authentic! They all are knowledgeable about cameras, film rolls and how the results are once developed. They provide great advice on how to improve the film roll. I go there about twice a month to get my film scanned and developed and they never disappoint! I usually wait no more than 2 days for my 35mm film roll to be developed and it's around $16 before taxes to receive a digital version (through flash drive) of the roll. If you need the roll expedited, they're pretty flexible with that also. I provided some 35mm film I got developed through them. I would wholeheartedly recommend Foto express if you're looking to get your film developed or to improve your photography! read more

I am new to film and he helped me a lot with advice on what kind of film to get and how different cameras are. If you bring a flash drive he will also put the photos on there for you. I needed a roll of 120 film developed and I think this store is the only one in San Jose that develops film in house. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Excellent service. The quality of prints are first rate and high quality scans are available on usb drive (usb drives can be purchased at reasonable price or you can bring your own) If there is a problem with your photos, they will call you to ask if you want the negatives printed. For a small store, the turnaround excellent at two to three days. I highly recommend Foto Express! read more

A great photo lab with fair pricing and a fast turnaround. I recently purchased a 35mm point and shoot and have been frustrated by the lack of quality and long wait times at places like CVS -- I figured I'd support this local business and am glad that I did! I came in on a Friday after work and was developing around 6-7 rolls of film! They cost $20-22 (per roll, depending on how many exposures) for developing, scanning, and matte prints and all the photos were ready by Monday of the following week. I brought in a USB stick to load the photo scans onto and it was a super simple process. The quality of the prints was nice too, and now they all have a happy home in my photo album. The photos turned out great, and the owner is very sweet and helpful. I'll be back with my next few rolls! read more

I've been coming to Henry Chang at Foto Express for my film photography needs since 2014/2015, and even though I've moved out of San Jose in 2018, he still remembered me when I dropped by earlier this year. Henry is incredibly knowledeaable about film photography and gives great recommendations regarding different film stocks. He offers prints, scans on CD, and very quick turnaround times. Foto Express is a film photography establishment in the South Bay, and nowadays its incredibly hard to find a local film photography shop that doesn't charge incredibly high prices for develop and scan services. I remember reading that Henry had a flood a few years back, but due to community support he was able to get back on his feet. The ONLY place I will ever get my photos developed. I live in Seattle now and I always hold onto my finished film to get developed back here because I refuse to go anywhere else. Henry is just the absolute best at his job and just a great person. I use my dad's very old film camera so there's a few kinks to it - light leaked into all my film in the beginning. Henry offered to take a look at my camera and suggested putting black tape on the side - and then problem fixed! He is so accommodating and always asks when you need your film by. He takes no more than 2 business days, but if urgent he's gotten it done within just the next day early morning. If i ever move across the country I will STILL always make sure to make my way back to Foto Express to get my film developed :) read more

I cannot begin to express how happy I was to find a very wonderful and reputable company to help me with the Restoration of two very old black-and-white photos. The owner Henry was extremely knowledgeable, and his advice was beyond measure. Henry definitely knows his way around taking old photos and making them look as if they were just done by a professional photographer. To add icing to the cake... He knew I needed six sets as soon as possible as I was giving them to each of the children for their Christmas gift... He even helped me by suggesting I go to Michael's to get the right frame. I will definitely be using this company again to transform all my old VHS home movies to a USB format.
