Wow, where do I start with this one?
Well, I started by making this Yelp page since it didn't exist yet even though this restaurant's been here a while. Because that's how.......... something something Tower of Babel.
There's a sauce bar, from which we made two sauces. One was a sesame paste base. This is my favorite for hot pot. The other, on a recommendation for spicy food in Sichuan style hot pot, is a garlic and oil base. The sesame paste was on-point. All the herbs seemed suitably fresh as well.
In addition to beef and fried pork, we ordered an impenetrable array of 3 types of tofu, including the cute tofu skin knots, celtuce?, Chinese yam, crown daisy?, wide vermicelli, duck blood, errr what do you even call this in English....seared rice cake? Not sure if that covers it. Everything was super fresh and great quality. The texture of the pork was almost perfect. Naturally, we got the half and half hot pot.
The overall cleanliness of the joint was also top tier for an authentic Chinese restaurant, the bathroom in particular. I've lost count of how many Chinese restaurants I've been to with amazing food and a disgusting bathroom. Lol.
Service was also extremely attentive, almost too attentive. They weren't busy, but it's still quite rare for someone to refill my teacup so consistently.
Five stars. read more
