My brokerage featured him in a meeting regarding Prop 19 and real estate, I felt like we'd be in a safe pair of hands. Bob Lamm was cordial and voiced a willingness in the meeting to look over the trust and make recommendations. My mother left the documentation with him and told him that his expertise was valued and while not in a rush, we would the trust to be updated. He agreed and accepted the bound documents. One month went by, then another, nothing, not a phone call, no response whatsoever; I was so surprised to be dropped like that without a notion of what was happening. Honesty is the best policy, if the trust was not worth his time, Bob Lamm could have expressed this in a diplomatic fashion, my mother, while proud of her well organized leather bound trust is under no illusion that it is anything more than modest size and we would not be offended if he had been forthright and honest and recommended another company. Instead, I phoned the office 2.5 months after the initial meeting and left a message with the reception that we hadn't heard anything from Bob Lamm and that I would like to come by and pick up the trust. No response! A few weeks pass and I call the office again and ask when I can come by...the reception replies to my query says, "Oh, it's here, up in front". Really???? All the sensitive documents have been sitting up at the reception desk for goodness knows how long with NO ATTEMPT to contact me and let me know it is there? Wow. Wow. Message received, our business is not needed nor welcome. Bob Lamm's behavior was appallingly unprofessional and possibly in violation of some privacy protocols. Nonetheless, it's important to share my experience. I strongly caution anyone considering Robert Goldsmith. My experience with him was extremely negative and unprofessional. I sought him for expertise in emotional abuse, narcissism, and abuse dynamics. Our first call was lengthy, and I shared an exhaustive account of my situation, already exhausted from weeks of repeating myself to other intake calls. Almost immediately, the relationship became dysfunctional. In our second conversation, he accused me of intentionally withholding information, claiming I was trying to "trick" him after I just asked a basic question regarding my case. No one is trying to trick someone if they give $5000 to help them. His condescending and paranoid behavior set the tone for the entire client-attorney relationship. I retained him with $5,000 to help me and my child--not to be accused of dishonesty. Goldsmith failed to act in my best interest. He did not file critical motions my next attorney confirmed were necessary, treated me as incapable of understanding my own case, lectured irrelevantly about the judge's perspective, and labeled me a "wild card," which was inaccurate and dismissive. He refused to recognize my ex's emotional and psychological abuse, ignored coercive control, and allowed my ex to manipulate him, compromising my case. Any educated attorney knows abuse is not just physical or verbal. Goldsmith's ignorance led him to judge my ex by appearance, implying I was misleading because he wasn't "intimidating." He completely failed to see the manipulative, abusive reality right in front of him. Goldsmith was unprofessional and uncompassionate regarding payments. When my daughter had major mouth surgery at just over one year old, I had to delay payment for a month. He demanded full payment and attempted to withdraw THREE days before a major proceeding--actions a malpractice attorney confirmed were unethical and harmful to a minor child. Right after paying a $5000 retainer, my daughter had surgery which I communicated to him and his office with only one month delay then immediately the following month made 2 $1500 payments back to back consecutively, he's still showed no compassion which is disgusting. In short: Goldsmith is condescending, dismissive, and lacks understanding of emotional abuse. He is not a competent or supportive advocate for clients facing manipulative or abusive ex-partners. His actions were self-serving, harmful, and driven by money.
