I really love this supermarket! Especially the hot foods section. It's definitely on the pricier side but the quality makes up for it. I tried the dinner special (roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, and rapini) and it was absolutely delicious. Tasted like something I'd make at home, except no dishes to clean, which is a win. It cost $20 for one portion, not cheap but worth it for a comforting, ready-to-eat meal. I'm also a fan of their fresh options like fruit trays, veggie trays, and the chicken Caesar salad. Great for quick grab-and-go meals. That said, there are a couple of downsides. The pastries aren't great we tried the red velvet cheesecake and regular cheesecake and both were overly sweet and forgettable. Also, the wooden knife and fork they give you with hot meals are just not it. I gave up halfway and took my food home to eat it with proper cutlery. read more

I love the quality of Fortinos! The pizza is in high demand for a top notch reason! The bakery is spectacular and the discount section has been my saving grace. The floors and tables are always spotless and the atmospheres generally inviting. But it's true that the customer service is off putting and often makes me feel like I'm annoying/troubling the servers. I went to this location a few weeks ago to grab a sandwich in where the workers ignored me before scoffing an annoyed "what." This is the third time that I have gone to the Major Mac and Jane location to pick up some pizza. There is never any pizza available. I had to wait 30 minutes because of the line up and then there are only 4 pieces left and the staff says it will take 30 minutes to get more. A lot of people leave, or they have to settle with whatever is left. There is only one person serving and no management around to jump in or get this situation solved. I love the pizza here, but to save $8.00 for 30 minutes of my time and not get what I want, is truly not worth it. I've gone earlier thinking I'll beat the rush, but go there around 4:30 and no pizza to be found as they are getting them ready for the dinner crowd!! There is no winning here lately. My husband and I have shopped here for over 20 years. They have gone downhill, fast. Advertised specials are always out of stock. Many items on shelves are expired. The managers just stand around, doing nothing. Their prices are beyond expensive now. They price gouge. Nobody seems to care about anything here. I know of one employee who hadn't received his paycheque in 3 weeks. They throw a lot of prepared food in the garbage at the end of the day. It could be donated. Such a waste. this is about their stupid promotion of collecting stamps for pots and pans. How many people actually got a Wok? My wife, sister and niece all wanted the Wok, for months now they have been going to the local Fortino's twice sometimes 3 times a week try to score a Wok but they never have any. Every time we ask they say the Woks go first you have to come early. Last week I was lucky enough to be there early just when a gentleman had boxes and boxes of pots and pans he was putting up on the display, I asked him about a Wok, he just sneakered and said he hasn't seen one of those in months, they just keep sending the pots and pans no Woks. I think most people are like my wife and sister they like to have a set but they have made it so you never actually can get a set, you just keep spending your money and trying. Nice scam! read more

I turned in a pair of lost keys that another customer had left behind I went with this customer to help her retrieve her lost keys with this cashier and she was very rude like we were bothering her. This review is exclusively for pane fresco, the eat in hot tables and cafe at Fortinos. I often go here to grab there cappuccino cause if you look at the attached photos you know exactly what I mean. even with 1% milk there able to with me up then nicest most Italian cappuccino just that way it supposed to be and I wouldn't even dare go to a Starbucks when I'm around here. In addition to making killer espresso drinks they also offer a giant Italian style hot table along with an amazing pizza bar, a soup and sandwich bar and a super fresh sushi counter. On top of it they also offer take-home portions at a cheaper price of their soups in the fridge which my kids can't get enough of! So... if you ever don't feel like cooking dinner and kind of feel yucky at the idea of ordering takeout, try going to fortinos instead. Yesterday I was ordering pork feet, pork hocks and whole salmon listed on Fortino's web site to pick up from Vaughan location and got a message that they have just pork feet, but others are sold out. Interesting, because three days ago I have checked the store and they didn't have this staff as well, but it was still listed on web site. Waste of time , fake web site. Also I was told that they don't have whole salmon for the price listed on web site, but have it for almost for double price!!! Terrible experience! Not recommended! read more

Have you had Panne Fresco? Although it translates to fresh bread it is the name they gave to the new prepared foods section of renovated Fortino's Supermarkets. I was blown away at the quality of food for the prices! First of all- always buy prepared food at supermarkets like Fortino's and Longos over others because their produce is super fresh and you are going to get great cuts of meat and delicious meals. I always go back to their salmon dinner platter (although i've tried EVERYTHING on their menu) Everything is good! For $9 its unbelievably good! No wonder the service has gone down lately, what is this nonsense I've been hearing amongst the cashiers about not being able to carry water? Water? At the cash registers? Uhm so apparently Fortinos is just dehydrating their employees now, no wonder they seem so lifeless when I'm shopping. It's quite the reflection on management. Wasn't planning to leave a review or even continue shopping here since I've had a few bad experiences here already (from what I can only assume happened because of racial profiling, not that I feel comfortable going into details) but I thought this needed to be addressed since it's regarding work conditions. I overheard the employees getting pretty upset since management refuses to listen to their requests about the matter. I relatively like this supermarket, but it is hardly perfect. So it is time for another episode of Leslie's famous Pros and Cons: Pro: Clean. You know how you go to a Walmart or No Frills (unfortunately I get dragged in by someone once every two years or so to these dumps) and come out feeling dirty, yucky, needing a shower and want to use wipes all over your hands and body? Fortino's does not give you that feeling. The supermarket feels and looks clean on the surface. Unfortunately, like all supermarkets it has that depressing warehouse lighting, which only softens here behind the cashiers. Tidy: the shelves are relatively tidy and orderly and importantly things stay were they are. Sobeys/Empire has a regrettable trick where they constantly move things around. The theory is when customers get lost not locating what they want, they start walking around and see and buy things they did not want. It is deceptive, disrespectful and a waste of time for shoppers. Fortinos doesn't seem to do that. Large and a good selection: the supermarket is big and has a good meat, produce and dairy section. There is a large prepared food section (which supermarkets are emphasizing because the margins are better than on grocery for them) and Joe Fresh aisles (because Fortino's is just a Loblaw brand) if you care for those items, which I do not. Organic: they do have a dedicated organic selection, which I like. The items are quite good. Cons: Produce price: For the amenities and cleanliness one pays a price in the produce section. The fruits and vegetables are not cheap. Employees and their carts: employees cut off customers, take up and block aisles, leave their carts in the middle of an aisle or having cut you off leave their cart with haul of whatever they are carrying to place on shelves in front of you implying you have to go around them. All these employees would be fired if this were Europe. Fortino's has a European name, but the service is decidedly Vaughan. I suppose that is what you get when your employees are minimum wage and as a company you fight against unions. Check-out: a nightmare. They have 1- self check-out to not even hire minimum wage employees and 2- very few aisles ever open. The process of going through check-out is a choice between the slow, confusing and dehumanizing self check-out or joining the 30 other customers waiting in 3 open lanes. This is the second most annoying thing about this supermarket that makes me go elsewhere. Parking: there is no parking. This plaza has joined others like Vaughan Mills and Hillcrest Mall (and nearly every other business landlord) to exert maximum greed and anti-customer behaviour by building so much on so little land that there is no parking space ever. I usually do not shop at Fortinos as their prices are higher than most stores in the area (eg - Red Leaf Lettuce is $.79 at Highland Farms and here it is 2/$3.00...so $1.50 a head) This location has recently completed an extensive renovation of their "to go" meal section. Great selection, prices in line with the rest of the store. Pizza is decent. Bakery is above average. What brings me into this store is usually for a specific President's Choice item that I've been using for a while....so I'll peruse the aisles looking for new products. I will say one thing about them..they are usually ahead of the curve when it comes to introducing new items/products. Their seasonal garden centre is one of the better ones as far as supermarkets go. I was shopping at fortinos last week and the head cashier who was wearing a white shirt was extremely disrespectful and rude. I had asked her a question about where a product was and she could not even help me. She sounded like she was very annoyed and wanted to get rid of me. Fortinos is supposed to be service with a heart but the customer service I received from her was rude and I did not appreciate it. I kept trying to find the product but I could not seem to find it so I had asked another employee and he helped and right away and even lead me to the product i was looking for. Went here this afternoon 3pm 5pm amid the Covit19 pandemic. The cashier was not wearing gloves and packaging my grocery. My fruits vegetables all items. While some they are in boxes and I wear gloves but still. I asked her why aren't you wearing gloves. She said I just don't feel like it. We dont have to and i dont want to. All the other cashiers were wearing gloves. I asked a supervisor or manager and she said it's up to them if they want to. That's disgusting, utter disregard for her own life as well as others. Simply put I go home and wipe all my grocerys down. Some people prob don't personal preference. So many people are dying in the world. I could go home put that milk container in my fridge my 80 year old grandmother could touch it and possibly get sick. Same goes to say the person putting it on the shelf could do the same. Put COME ON the front line workers the cashiers! Put on the damn gloves. The people in the BAKERY are packaging the breads but wearing no gloves! Are you friggin serious. Why buy sanitizer and take precautions then. People need to take this situation a bit more seriously. The sad thing is through all precautions and safety measure a simple thing like this could ruin it for everyone. Your out giving tickets to people in parks 4 or 6 people and you have something in a greater magnitude publicly happening. Yeah it sounds a bit much But, isn't your life, your family your neighbours, even just human life worth more than this It's not a matter of this one minor thing but the principal behind it. Other groceries are doing this but most are wearing gloves. This place was disappointing especially since i said something politely and nothing was done. Fresh bread, pesto mayo, light evoo, plump beefsteak tomatoes, thick bocconcini cheese and a few leafs of basil. Mmm, mmm, mmm. I was in Fortinos Upper James location today and I had to wear a mask, fine, don't want to but I followed the rules. I then saw 2 men walking around with no mask. It turns out that they were there to repair some equipment. Nobody said a word to them and they freely walked around the store maskless talking to employees etc. If you have rules enforce them! I was going to say something to these guys but I thought it may lead to a fight--It's not my job to enforce the rules at my local Fortinos, if I see it again I will definitely say something---Poor management high as hell prices read more

Today was my official first shopping experience at Fortino's. I gave the place 2 stars mostly because I was very unhappy with the lack of organization and prices in the organic section. They have multiple sections throughout the store yet they still seem to lack many of the very common products such as organic potatoes. Herbs, grapes etc. They had a very poor selection of the organic strawberries and berries and most of them were going bad. The gluten-free section was not too bad and I was impressed with the fact that they even had frozen pies which were gluten-free. I found this store overall to be overpriced very large somewhat unorganized and I was very disappointed when I was charged five cents per plastic bag at cash. The other negative at the cash was that there were only two cash registers open and 2 express cash registers which all had long lineups. They (should have Opened more ) cash registers. I simply came to the store to see what the fuss is about why the parking lots are always full and why most of the people in the area prefer the store. I personally did not enjoy my experience whatsoever I feel I was overcharged as I mentioned earlier and I feel it was robbery to charge five cents per plastic bag. Although it's not a lot of money it is still not necessary considering your overcharging for every product on your shelf! The plant section with flowers was ok, but again over priced! A little while ago my husband and I grabbed a quick lunch at The ready food area, which was impressive LOOKING, but most of the food was tasteless and lacked seasoning to my Taste. read more

I love going to Fortino's every so often. Can get grocery items there where I can't get anywhere else or our No Frills near us don't carry. I love the almond cookies, their pies and the freshly baked onion bread and the meat dept. A bit higher priced but have an excellent bakery section as well. The staff there is fantastic and I even had the one fellah take my picture with the Canada Day cake. I finally got somebody to email me the picture of it. I am going there now to get their sliders as so few stores sell these. First time in going to it I did a double take at what it looks like from the outside as I am used to seeing that of a usual supermarket store :) read more

Asked for a Manager, was told after waiting more than 15 min Franchisee would allow rain check for 1 - 2 rib roast.
