B & T Food Centre is good if you just want to pick up a few things to make a quick dinner. It carries most of the staples that one needs to make a good Chinese/Vietnamese dinner. I guess I am just a little spoiled by the nice supermarket that has been opened all over GTA in the last few years. Selection here for sure is lacking here. Price point might be a little lower than others big box Chinese grocery stores. Tons of flies and wet floors... I though will be back if I want some of those Thai or Vietnamese herbs and even get a balut or 2 for my Yelp friend.. (I just want to mix those in with the eggs in the fridge..... and see what will happen...) Cash only. Not even debit....

Oh my gosh I going to keel over, *cough* *cough* if you can get past the putrid odor, (I suggest breathing through your mouth) you'll find shelves and freezers full of cool and unique ethnic foods at B&T! It's a Vietnamese run grocery store located in a plaza just outside Vaughan Mills Shopping Mall. BT is in reference to Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. B&T varies from the ever popular T&T line of grocery stores (of which I find carrys more Chinese and Taiwanese selections). This isn't independent shop though, it's part of a chain. B&T Ben Thanh has other locations in Hamilton and Kitchener. There's some quirkiness to an smaller store operation like this. For example ; the weird signage abound, "slow door" sign by the sliding exit doors, there's a microwave by the baked good section with a sign on it "to all valued customers microwave is for b&t personal and employees only. Sorry! B&T management " ok funny sign but what the heck is a microwave doing there to begin with.. lol As the previous reviewer mary l. mentioned, things like sour sop fruit are available here. Not found at T&T. I saw Kawartha Ice Cream -this stuff is sold commercially at Ice Cream stores and there's a pretty solid selection of Filipino foods here too. Appears they have a contract with FV foods because I saw a lot of their sweets baked goods here. On the shelves, I saw the individual jars of ingredients to make your favorite Vietnamese dessert drink or Filipino halo halo. Everything was reasonably priced too. In the back there is a meat and seafood counter - which is the large contributor to the awful odor. There is no bakery. However they do bring small selection of baked goods from various local suppliers. My checkout experience was painfully slow. I lined up behind a lady who was touting I thought at the time 1 grocery cart (oh goody! :) ), but it turned out to 2 grocery carts (burn on me). There were only 2 cashiers open. Be aware they charge a fee if debit transactions are less than $10. I left the store with some pistachio cookies made from TWI a South Asian baker from Mississauga and 2L of Soy Good Chocolate Milk. Bonus there's a Nguyen Huong in the store too to get your Viet sub fix on. As you can tell, there's a lot more going on here. It's a treasure chest of unique goodness. :)

I needed to pick up a few grocery items, so dropping by Food World Supermarket afterwards was perfect. This building used to Rose Garden Banquet and Convention. I'm guessing that due to the pandemic, this business suffered and shut down. There is plenty of parking in front and around this supermarket. I backed into a spot and walked in. The doors automatically open, which is wonderful. This supermarket is located across from Burger King. I often frequent it when I crave a flame-broiled burger. Both are in the same plaza as Wok of Asia. It's clean and cheerful when you first walk in. You see cases of pop and sparking water. The produce section then greets you. I needed avocados and celery. Prices are either comparable to what you see at grocery stores like No Frills, but the quality is better. Both produce items that I grabbed were fresh and in great condition. This grocery store carries halal items. It features a lot of South Asian products, such as Parle-G and paratha. You also see ramen and Ribena, both of which made me love shopping at this store even more. I saw everything from custard to paneer. It does sell corned beef in cans and rose water in glass bottles. Cool! The meat section is impressive. It's huge with every cut of meat that you can possibly think of. You can get food to go. There's a stall within the supermarket where you can get pizza, shawarma, and more. I paid for my produce. The woman at the checkout was extremely pleasant and nice. I paid with my debit card. This store gives you a plastic bag. I thanked her and headed to the exit. Just before you exit, there's a stall that sells desserts, ice cream, drinks, and more. I asked the woman behind the counter whether their drinks have added sugar. They don't. The store goes with the natural sweetness of their fruit or veggies. I wanted to get the sugar cane and coconut hydrating beverage. She had run out of coconut, so I got a large sugar cane drink. As she made my drink, I looked at the desserts display. There were individual portions of chocolate mousse cake and sponge cakes. You can also get milkshakes, ice cream, and more. She asked whether I wanted ice in my sugar cane drink. I said as much as the cup could fit the ice. It was perfect on a hot day. I asked the nice woman how long this supermarket has been open for. It opened on May 18th. I paid with my debit card. Done! I thanked the woman and left with my groceries and drink. The sugarcane was indeed the real deal. It was naturally sweet and yummy. I was happy with my drink. It was nice consuming it as I drove home. Whenever I was in the area to grab some dinner, there was never a supermarket close by to get a few grocery items. It's definitely more convenient now thanks to this Food World. (174)

I was going to a Yelp elite event recently and had a bit of time to spare. I needed to get some celery and popped by this Longo's, which happens to be steps away from where the event was. It hit me that I drank too much hot tea at work and my bladder needed some attention. This store has two washrooms. The one that I visited was clean and nicely stocked. I then hit the produce aisle. Sure, prices at Longo's tend to be higher than at No Frills. However, the produce is super fresh at this store. It took my breath away. It was almost as if a produce photo shoot was about to happen, but it's really how it looks daily. The craziest discovery was looking at the huge brussel sprouts at this store. It's like someone fed them steroids. I held one on my hand and it felt like I was about to change a light bulb. It was insanely huge! I was admiring the Daiya line of dairy-free cheezecakes. I also loved seeing my beloved Portuguese egg tarts at the bakery. Some specialty items included parm crisps. If you don't have time to make your own, you have two varieties at this store to pick up and enjoy. I also had fun looking at Holy Crap breakfast cereal. Although it was priced at $11 a bag, I polled a few of my friends, including one of my interns, who all said that it's delicious. I love when I learn about a product and it ends up being yummy! The cashier was great. I paid for my celery and happily walked out with it to my car. It was nice being back at this grocery store. I need to visit it more often. It's awesome. (86)

Coppa's seems to be a local grocery chain with only three locations nearby Toronto - North York, Scarborough and King City. The aisles are wide, the space is clean, fruits, vegetables, meat seem fresh and produce neatly stacked together. They have a huge butcher section, bakery aisle, prepared foods and more. It was not busy at all Sunday late afternoon. Many times it felt like a private grocery shopping experience. Unlike Chinatown, Walmart, Costco and other chains, where sometimes you would feel like your groceries are all picked on. The prices are moderate and pretty reasonable overall. I mostly purchased fresh produce so didn't notice the prices of the packaged goods. They don't tend to stock inhouse cheap brands, like No Name and Great Value but all moderate priced brands. There seem to be deals to be had like broccoli and flour on sale. The 2.5kg Robinhood flour bag was cheaper than even Walmart. I would've wanted a 5kg bag but it was sold out. Though I would say the butter was quite expensive, $7 was the cheapest option, and it was their own Coppa-branded butter, which was just one block, not even divided into sticks. The next alternative is $8 for premium Country-churned with pre-packaged sticks. Was a bit of a splurge for two blocks. I wonder if I would be able to taste the difference between cheap and expensive butter. If I'm in the area again I'll like to try their baked goods next.

The produce is alright you'll find good ones specially when they are fully stocked. Its great that this location is so diversed that they cater products from different background. This GT is next to Costco and across from Shoeless Joe's. It was your usual craziness at Costco on a Saturday afternoon, but it was quieter in front of GT. I pulled through to park and headed over to the entrance. This store gave me Bed, Bath, and Beyond vibes. I was close. When I looked at this store's listing on Google Maps before heading over here, it showed a photo of buybuy Baby, which was a subsidiary of Bed, Bath, and Beyond. This GT is huge. It's probably one of the larger ones that I have ever shopped at. It was nice. I'm not ready to see Fall fashions. Heck, I can't down pumpkin spice anything because I still have the air conditioning on and I'm wearing summery clothing. This place had everything from lightweight puffy jackets, to comfy autumn-inspired joggers. I'll shop for all things autumnal when the time is right. It's not time yet. I came for groceries. This section was impressive. Most freezers are upright and modern. I loved them. The one freezer that wasn't with the McCain Pizza Pockets was cool. The glass lids opened effortlessly up when you gently lifted them. It was so nice and unexpected. The floors were spotless and extremely shiny. I tend to go to established GTs where the floors haven't had that shine in years! This store is obviously a newer one. This store gets full marks for offering Crush sugar-free liquid water enhancers. I last bought the orange maybe two years ago and it's so good. I haven't seen them in stock for ages. This place has them in orange, grape, strawberry, and pineapple. I grabbed the grape and pineapple. I am looking forward to trying them. I like getting groceries at GT. They are cheap and of good quality. Celery was $2.29. Eggs were $3.87. They didn't look like a hurricane had touched down and there were sad slim pickings. Everything was in pristine condition. I was happy to see Pocky at this store. The GTs that I frequent don't have any. If you love plushies, especially Squishmallows, the selection at this store is excellent. I didn't get any, but I wanted everything. You have the option of using the self-checkouts (there were four of them) or getting cashed out by a human. I chose the latter. One of the self-checkout kiosks was out of service. I felt like the woman at the checkout would be perfect. She was helping answer a question that a woman at the self-checkout had. The customer was scanning a bra and asked whether she could return it. At first, the female staffer said yes. She then decided to call her manager. The verdict? Nope, you can't return it. It was good to know. I also appreciated that this staffer took it a step further to ask. She asked if I had a GT VIP membership. I did and gave her my cell number associated with it. I then paid with a credit card. Done! I put all my groceries in my reusable bag. I thanked her and left. It's nice that there's this GT is Vaughan. I had a great experience and look forward to coming back more often. (332)
