My husband and I had an extra day in Dallas, so we took a shuttle to the train, and two buses to walk to the Botanic Garden and Butterfly exhibit. It was one day after the Japanese Garden exhibit so there weren't a lot of people around, but the gardens were well maintained. The shuttle buses are helpful in getting to the far away parts of the garden. Our favorite part was the visit to the butterfly exhibit. They were releasing new butterflies and the staff was great with sharing information about the various species. I've been to other butterfly exhibit, and this was the most active population of various butterflies... Al displayed beautiful creativity of our amazing God! Would be better to have a bus stop at or near the gardens. Would have liked to see more flowers there... The rose beds were likely better a couple weeks before our arrival. read more

There's something about stepping into the Fort Worth Botanic Garden that instantly slows life down. The city noise fades, the air feels lighter, and nature finally gets a chance to take center stage. I came here looking for a little peace after a long week, and this place delivered in every way. The grounds are beautifully kept. Every pathway feels intentional, every garden section has its own personality, and every turn gives you something new to appreciate. The rose garden is a whole experience on its own, and the open lawns make you want to find a bench and just exist there for a while. But the real star is the Japanese Garden. Walking across those bridges with koi drifting underneath feels like stepping into another world. The maples, the stone pathways, the ponds that look like glass--everything is placed with purpose. It's calming in a way you can't fully describe, only feel. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the bathrooms were clean, which matters when you're wandering a place this big. Even with the crowds, the garden still feels peaceful, like it has its own rhythm separate from everyone walking through it. This isn't a "take a pic and leave" spot. This is a slow walk, deep breath, stay-a-while kind of place. Perfect for a mindful morning, a quiet date, or just resetting your soul for an hour. Fort Worth, you're holding onto a gem. I saw a Facebook post about the Botanic Garden Plant Sale. They specifically listed pages of available trees and plants with a special early event for members. We are not members but were excited to see they had dwarf Japanese maple trees and swung by Friday afternoon, the first day of the "public" sale. By the time we got there, most of the trees were gone, though they did have a great selection of fruit trees of a few varieties. We did not find our dwarf maples but were able to find other things that made the trip worth it. Priced reasonable enough with some vendors offering speciality items. read more

Staff was friendly from entrance to exit! Comfort food and drinks throughout helped some of the possible hangry movements for the littles. My friend and I came to the gardens today. Though it was hot, we enjoyed the breeze and the local art installations. I love the improvements made to the botanical gardens. I appreciate that the gardens which include access to the conservatory are inexpensive as well as the free public parking. The conservatory was filled with beautiful plants and flowers, a small pond and a small waterfall. There are plenty of spots available to take pictures which I saw people doing. One of my favorite areas are the Japanese Tea Gardens which have plenty of trees, flowers, ponds and overlook spots. I look forward to my next visit. read more

What a beautiful day for the butterfly exhibit. We purchased advanced tickets so we could go straight to the line but does weave outside so know that if the weather is iffy. We saw so many beautiful butterflies. They were everywhere! No strollers/jackets etc allowed in but they have a place for you to set them aside. read more

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is truly a gem, conveniently located right next to the stockyards and museums. The grounds are huge so wear good walking shoes. While there is shade, most of the garden is sunny so dress appropriately for the weather and wear sunscreen and perhaps insect repellent. They have many special events. I enjoyed the Japanese Festival a lot (the Japanese Garden is beautiful year-round and has opportunities to view wildlife such as herons). There are evening concert happy hours and "Dog Days" when your friendly leashed dog can join you. I recommend arriving early in the day to get a parking spot close to the entrance. Parking is free. If you are going to visit regularly (more than once per year), then you should definitely join the garden as a member to take advantage of member discounts. read more

My husband and I have been to the botanical garden a few times and it's been nice each visit. It is quite large and has several different sections to visit. We went first thing in the morning and there was zero crowds. The Japanese garden was very peaceful and fun to watch the Koi fish swim around. read more

I was excited to finally visit, and with my family in town and my grandma being a big lover of flowers, I was looking forward to bringing them there. We arrived at 2pm and was told that they close at 4pm, so that seemed like enough time to see everything. We were also told about the indoor garden area, so we mentioned that we'll go there after we see the outdoor garden. Well, I wish the lady at the desk that we were talking to, told us about the indoor garden closing early!!! If we only knew that, then we would've started with that and then went to see the outside garden. We got to the indoor garden at 3:30pm and it was closed. What a disappointment!!! I don't get why they had to close up shop so early when technically, it's not even at their closing time? They should have a sign outside mentioning that rather than having people wait because we weren't the only ones, since there were others who were waiting longer than we did and no one that worked there bothered to even tell us until I went over to ask. The outside garden though, was ok, it wasn't breathtaking or impressive. There were lots of flowers, but also a lot of plants that looked dead or were dying. Definitely a big difference compared to the Dallas Botanical Garden, which I've been to several times. It had some nice structures, but I wish there were more plants around that were vibrant and looked alive. Overall, it was an ok visit that ended with disappointment. read more

Great visit - albeit hot and humid. This was our first visit in the 5 years we've lived in the DFW metroplex. Today's visit was due to the "Butterflies at The Gardens" exhibit as well as the Japanese Festival. It was fun to walk through the butterfly exhibit to see so many types and colors. Good photo opportunities as well. After the butterflies, we walked to the Japanese Gardens to walk through some of the festival's vendors, exhibits and the gardens themselves. We didn't really get much out of the Japanese Festival but the gardens were amazing and tranquil to walk through. We'll be back to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. read more

This is an awesome garden with a spacious layout of flora fauna and trails and exhibits inside and outside and good food and drinks souvenirs and many other options. We have spent a lot of time enjoying the grounds here and our children also enjoy it. We have attended concerts in the park, movies in the park, special events and holidays here plus spent afternoons and evenings enjoying a picnic and spending great family times. The staff are friendly and we very much recommend this site. They literally have events going on all the time - and that's on top of what is awesome and already there that makes it such a cool place to come anyway. This place encompasses a tranquil oasis in a sea of concrete spaghetti. I spent most of my time in the Japanese gardens, which are so picturesque and mysterious. Afterwards I meandered into the original experimental gardens at the far end of the property. Getting there required an aimless wander through the (mostly dormant, as it was December, yet still lovely in its own way) rose garden which led to the multi-tiered + double staircase overlooking the entire original landscape/acreage from 100 years ago. (Bonus: a freshly engaged couple was just finishing their proposal!) Due west of this view were 100+ year-old double rows of oak trees, nestled around a grassy promenade. If i had more time, this is where i would've settled with a picnic + blanket. Prepare to spend many peaceful hours finding your own niche, if you're into that sort of thing. read more

Oh what a night! Perfect crisp but not cold to tour the night of lights at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. It's a magical experience touring the exhibits with a spiked hot chocolate in hand. Every exhibit had its own Christmas song playing. Dancing water, sparkling lights and neon trees. There were bars and refreshment areas throughout the 1.4 mile tour. read more

I love living so close to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden! I come here all the time to enjoy the beautiful plants and unwind. I like to bring a book and find a shady bench to read on for a while. I have a membership and have already made good use of it. It costs $60 for an individual membership and includes reciprocal access to a ton of other gardens. The grounds are beautiful, but I love all of the programming they host. I have been able to take a few art tours and I love bringing my dog on Dog Days. What an amazing botanical garden! It was our first time going today but definitely not our last! Very large and spread out. Lots of different varieties of plant life. The garden was also beautifully kept and maintained. You definitely get your money's worth at this garden. We went today to check out the Japanese festival. Can't believe it took me this long to check out the Botanic Gardens. I highly recommend this place for a nice weekend adventure. Definitely visit this place during the spring time, when all the flowers are blooming and when the weather is perfect. I took my family who were visiting from out of state here, and we had a blast. We checked out the japanese garden and also the rose garden. Unfortunately we didn't think to buy fish food up at the front, as you can feed the large kois in the pond. The japanese gardens was very tranquil and beautifully maintained. The rose gardens were awesome as the roses were in full bloom! My favorite activity was the butterfly gardens. Never been inside a butterfly garden, and i'm definitely looking toward the next time i can check it out again. You can buy a combo for the garden and the butterfly exhibit to save a few bucks. The butterfly gardens was crowded, but if you take your time, you can see lots of different variety of butterflies. If you get lucky, you may have one land on you to get the perfect photo. On the weekend, i believe they have a small farmers markets out front to check out. They also sell lemonade and sangria for you to enjoy while walking around the gardens. Fort Worth Botanic Gardens is located obviously in The Heart of Fort Worth, Texas, delivering a stunning garden environment for garden enthusiasts and anyone who simply loves being in nature! We came through on a beautiful day during the week, hoping we could enjoy walking through the gardens and admiring all the lovely things the Botanic Gardens had to offer, and our wish came true! There is free ample parking provided in the lot, making it easy and enjoyable when visiting. Getting tickets is fairly easy as to where you can go online and purchase tickets, or you can purchase tickets at the kiosk provided when entering. The prices are fair and average, and they have regular admission, seniors, and child prices. We set off for adventure after purchasing our tickets and started our walking journey. There are plenty of benches throughout the Gardens to sit at if your legs get tired. After speaking to one of the friendly staff members, he stated the Gardens is roughly 100 acres but 50 acres in walkable spaces. There were plenty of flowers, trees, and plants to observe, and they were all very well nicely planted. The star of the show was the Japanese Gardens, where everything seemed nostalgic to me since living in Japan for quite some time. It almost felt I was back in the Land of the Rising sun. They even have a small gift shop inside where you can purchase items or buy food for the massive Koi fish in one of the many ponds they have. Overall, I had a great time here with gorgeous views and great exercise for my legs! They also had a huge greenhouse in the front, but it wasn't opened yet for the butterfly exhibit that would be starting soon. While we were there, the special exhibit was a dinosaur theme, which was quite nice looking at and walking through the park. It was $12 per person if you book online saving $2 if you were to buy in person. The botanical garden was quite big with many different themes. The Japanese Garden was the highlight with its amazing architecture and flowers. The entire loop from beginning to end was about 2ish mile. Do note on a hot humid day, it can be a little miserable to walk around so stay hydrated. These was a very nice activity to walk around and admire the beautiful flowers. Getting into this place was a tad confusing, as the northern entrance which is where I came from the various museums in the area seemed locked off (though on closer inspection it was not. The visitor center had a wait for tickets on a weekday, and they were a couple of dollars more expensive that what my initial internet search existed. However, I could see why people were lining up to pay it. I did not enter their seasonal butterfly exhibit, but I still found some butterflies and other interesting insects hovering around the gardens. There were some wild spaces, but overall these were quite considered and constructed spaces. In addition to the various plant life, a set of realistic-looking sculptures including some iconic art pieces, were sprinkled throughout the gardens as part of a temporary exhibition. Abundant drinking water stations were around, important in the Texas heat, and the place appeared to be selling plants to a large crowd of excited locals. Together, FWBG will create one of the leading public gardens in America." The Garden has a very well designed and informative webpage, from which I copied the above clip. It is $14 admission charge for adults, $12 for seniors (65+). Google Maps took us to a private entrance, but large sizes directed us to enter through University Drive. When we came on a Tuesday morning, there was still plenty of free parking available, though it was pretty full by the time we left late morning. There is one entrance into the gardens via the visitor's center, and you can pay your admission via the ticket desk. There really wasn't much brochures to peruse; using your phone on their website is the best bet to get around. There were two temporary exhibits throughout the garden, both of which we loved very much. The first are twenty one life size Seward Johnson sculptures (May - September '24), placed strategically around the park. They truly are lifelike, requiring us to examine them. As expected in a park this well maintained, there were plenty of gardeners going through their workday...and yes, we mistook one of them who was taking a well deserved break, as a sculpture. I'm pretty sure this is intentional. The other exhibit is 'Dinosaurs around the World' (Jan - May '24). Not lifesize, but seemed realistic enough and was cool seeing them in an outdoor setting. Many of them were animated, including sound. In fact, when we were wandering the gardens, we initially thought we were near a zoo because of the noises coming throughout. Kids would love it. It definitely matters what time of the year you come. We had just missed the butterfly exhibit, and there really wasn't too many flowers blooming. But there was plenty of green, and a lot of places to explore. Plus it wasn't so hot or full of biting insects. There are plenty of places to fill up your water bottle. The one word to describe this place would be 'peaceful'. There are so many shaded benches where you could just sit and enjoy nature. The large Japanese gardens was a sight to behold, definitely providing a lot of running water, plenty of shaded trees, and nice views. And the very large pond had very large Koi, frogs, and even a family of ducks swimming around. Wish we had more time to just reflect...I really enjoy places like this. read more

Absolutely lovely garden! Only $12 for this experience. There are around 10 different gardens that you can explore. Be prepared to do a lot of walking though because everything is spaced out. I particularly loved the Japanese garden, which was very extensive and had many Japanese trees and flowers. The rose garden was also lovely with beautiful architecture and and many different blooms parking can be a bit confusing if it is busy, you have to park across at the nearby church and walk across the busy street. On a slower day, though there is a large parking lot that you can park in for free. read more

We visited for Free Admission day which kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month! The Gardens were decorated so beautifully with bright field of Marigolds and tropical plants in the terrarium. We arrived first thing when they opened and found parking with no problem. Granted we ended up getting rained on but it was so worth it to frolic with hardly anyone else around. Five hours later when we were leaving it was packed!! The line was in the street trying to turn into the Garden parking lot! Great visit, I'd pay to come back. It always looks different no matter how many times we visit! P.S. the kids house in the Compost area is gone! I'm guessing it finally fell apart, it was pretty worn down. When traveling and on days where our calendar is more free, we (more as my husband could care less really about botanical gardens) try to get minimum 10k steps in some either/or museums or botanical gardens. We have been a few botanical gardens. This one wasn't terrible, but it looked a bit unkept. A few areas of dead overgrowth, dried leaves, plants past their prime. The fish food they sell for a $2 or $4 baggie saved this review.. the turtles and fish were happy to get a few nibbles. It was also crazy hit and humid and I'm not a fan of that weather, so I added a star. When I'm overheating I'm a much more critical reviewer. I gotta check myself before I wreck myself.. read more

Last time I reviewed was in 2018, since then it's has only gotten better, This month it's bogo on tickets better go early cause it's very hot out there. We got there 8:30 walked the park and admired the gardens, they have origami sculptures on display and it really added to the charm. Japanese Gardens looked great and there is plenty of shade to rest in.You want to carry water with you, they had plenty of clean restrooms situated throughout the walk. We came up recently during a free admission day that the Ft Worth Gardens had put on. It ended up being during the start of the Hispanic heritage celebration. It unfortunately was wet weather but still interesting to walk around. There was a lot themed extras near check in for the celebration but not as much past the initial area, I can only guess due to the rain they didn't have as much out as they could. Luckily it wasn't as crowded as it had been when my wife had come for a festival a year ago, even for a free admission day, but as they day went on it seemed to be getting busier once folks realized the rain had started staying away. As well, chunks of the gardens seemed to be in transition. I suggest checking in with them ahead of time to find out what things are in bloom before commit to a day if you are seeking out a lot of things in bloom, and before paying admission. read more
