This place needs to be on your radar! It's tucked inside the Olly Olly market, which is between 11 and 12th aves so a bit out of the way, but I guarantee it is worth it! It's just a small counter in the market with some seating, but there are also tables in the market. You order on the iPad but the guy working there was nice and helpful too. Got the classic scallion pancake burrito which was out of this world. The fried cheese really makes it, and the thick scallion pancake is just scrumptious. At $16, it might seem steep but it's really quite filling since it's so heavy. For me it was enough to eat half and split with my partner. definitely want to try the chicken one at some point too, so will have to be back soon! read more

Forsyth Fire Escape makes a cheese quesadilla that is oozing with flavor, toothsome and absolutely delectable. Did you know that's this is an "off the menu" special? Having heard someone ask for it I asked Isabella if I could have one too and customized it with cilantro. I also ordered esquites and a side of the tangy salsa verde. The quesadilla was large with the cheese and cilantro tucked inside then pan fried until burnished brown. Each bite was ambrosial. I had told her about the ones that I liked at Taco Grand Central but now Forsyth Fire Escape's cheese quesadilla tops that and has to be the finest that i have eaten in the Big Apple. The corn kernels for the Esquites were plump and glistened. One bite and I fell in love. I could eat this every day as it was simply heavenly. Highly recommended! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for so long, and I'm glad I finally did! The burrito filling was good, although I think the meat was a bit too salty for my taste. The chong you bing (scallion pancake) however, was PHENOMENAL. It reminded me of my grandma's! I haven't been able to find chong you bing that has the same texture/thickness as hers, and Forsyth's got the bullseye. I should've checked to see if they sell the pancake by itself, because I would definitely get that on its own!! read more

I went after work on a Wednesday and the market was empty! The whole area is clean and the bathrooms are nice. The food was tasty. But it is a little expensive. $16 for a scallion pancake burrito and they charge $2 for sauce. We needed the sauce though because the burrito is a little dry without it. Overall I wouldn't get this regularly, but I'd come back when I'm willing to splurge or when an out-of-towner is visiting. read more

i got the first item on the menu (sorry can't remember what it's called) and it was soooo delicious. the size was a bit smaller than i expected and honestly pretty expensive for the price, but it ended up being enough food for me. this place is located in a food court with plenty of seating and AC to beat the nyc heat. the wait was somewhat long since there were a few people ahead of me. the worker was nice and accommodating to my preferences. i asked for light cheese and chili oil on the side and they delivered. read more

I remember seeing these scallion pancakes on instagram back when you had to pre-order crazy far in advance, so I love to see that they're doing well enough to have space in such a nice venue! I ordered the OG scallion pancake burrito. It looks small, but it is very dense. It's such a unique blend of flavors with the dominican pulled pork, cheese, guac, and lemongrass chili oil. While the lemongrass chili oil was tasty, it was too oily for my liking. Probably not something I would eat regularly, but it's such an interesting fusion concept it's worth trying at least once. This was my first time in Olly Olly Market and it is such an underrated space! There is plenty of seating, some pool tables, foosball, and very clean bathrooms. read more

An amazing fusion of Chinese and Dominican culture. I may be biased because I love green onion pancakes so any burrito that utilizes that would be 5 stars, but combining that with the juicy, flavorful pernil is a match made in heaven. read more

I missed out on the Chicken SPB because I showed up after the typical lunch hour :( but I was able to order a plantain egg and cheese burrito. Y'all. I'm serious when I say I could eat this everyday. There's something about a perfectly spicy yet slightly sweet chili oil that can make anything taste good. Aside from being in the cute Olly Olly Market (totally worth the visit if you've never been!), I love the story behind Forsyth Fire Escape. The fusion of flavors and appreciation for the community definitely shines through in the food. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll be back right at opening time to try the Chicken burrito. read more

Amazing fusion burritos (among a few other options)! Can't go wrong with the famous classic scallion pancake burrito! A delectable combo of pernil and fried gooey queso. Forsyth Fire Escape - Scallion pancake burrito, fries, empanadas - Asian Fusion Near Me - New York, New York

I think like most New Yorkers, I don't find myself in this neighborhood often. So in the rare instance that I am, I had to get the much lauded Scallion Pancake Burrito. Being a glutton for both scallion pancakes and pernil, this burrito was not it. Wasn't even half of it, EVEN A QUARTER, EVEN ONE EIGHTH. You get the point. Let's talk about the price. $16 for what's generously maybe half the size of a chipotle burrito. But that's expected when it comes to novelty right? Right. Second: And I potentially attribute all the negative qualities of the ingredients to being a weekend (where traffic isn't as high), the ingredients were just dry. Scallion pancakes are usually greasy but flavorful. But this verged on stale. The pernil, desicated to be more like bacon. Maybe they save the fresh stuff for the office crowd. Third: it was just lacking in flavor. It might've dried up with the juiciness. I even got one of the chili oils on the side and you had to scoop a handful to get a taste. Some of the oil congealed on top, leading to my weekend theory. I regret walking here read more

I had been following Forsyth Fire Escape for a while now and have been wanting to the try the burrito for a while. As others have mentioned, this is a bit out of the way. I happened to be in the area, so I made a stop at the Olly Olly market. There wasn't a long line or wait, and this was on a late Friday afternoon. I got the classic scallion pancake burrito. It was really well done. The pernil was tender and savory with a hint of lime. I loved every single bite of this burrito and I'm glad I got the chance to try it. One of the best scallion pancake burritos I've ever had. The pancake was crispy and the spices paired really well with the meat. It was super flavorful and the staff were so sweet. We also tried the fruit juice of the week which was passionfruit, it did not disappoint. It wasn't too sweet and had the perfect amount of flavor. The market is also super nice, it is a great place to hang out and talk to friends while eating different types of foods. read more

After seeing this place go viral on IG, I'm glad they have a more accessible option at Olly Olly! I came here shortly after 12 PM on a Friday and there was a line of about 5 people in front of me. They only offer only version of the burrito and you can buy their bodega sauce on the side (not worth it imo -$2 for a small cup or you can buy a bottle). Since there was only one food item on the menu, the line moves pretty quick. Since they make the burritos to order, we were quoted a wait time of 25 minutes. I really liked the scallion pancake - it is doughy but I think if it was flakey like a traditional scallion pancake it wouldn't be able to hold the fillings. I liked the chewy texture too, so I don't think a flakey crust would work well for the burrito concept. The filling was really good - the pork was flavorful and the guacamole really balanced out the greasiness. I wish they added more guacamole though because I liked how it ramped up the flavor profile. The bodega sauce was nothing to write home about - it tasted a little too oily for my liking and didn't improve the burritos flavor in any way. I would skip it to save some money or just get one and share it. For $14, it is pretty steep for a burrito, but you can't get a scallion burrito anywhere else in the city. I think it's worth trying at least once! Note: since it is located inside Olly Olly, you will have to plan accordingly since the food hall isn't open on the weekends. read more

Loved the fusion concept and amazing flavors! Finally got to try after hearing about them from social media but also figuring out their operating hours. I got the OG scallion pancake burrito and was impressed with how the different flavors blended nicely. I enjoyed how the pernil was very well-seasoned, and how the chili oil's lemongrass sweetness and spice added another dimension. Although I think the scallion pancake could have featured more scallions and/or scallion flavors, I liked how its crispiness contrasted with the tender meat and mushy guac. Overall its on the saltier side and may not be for everyone, but I still liked the fusion taste. The burrito combines 3 inherently oily things (scallion pancake, pernil, and chili oil) so it was not surprising to find my hand covered with oil. They ran out of tostones, so we tried the empanadas, but they ran out of the green sauce too! The empanadas were made with a scallion pancake crust with either cheese, pernil, or chicken. Really want to come back to try the classic green sauce cause I felt like it was missing something even with the regular chili oil. The burritos were smaller than what I had seen online, but considering how the ingredients were kinda heavy, it was a good size after all. I think we met the owner and he was very friendly/nice. Food came after a 15 min wait. Lots of seating options in the Olly Olly Market, although I heard they secured a more permanent spot elsewhere but not sure when they are moving. read more

I came on a Tuesday around 1:30pm. There wasn't a line at the time. I just got the burrito. It didn't live up to the hype for me. The scallion pancake was too thick and honestly wasn't that flavorful. I was chewing a lot of dough. The pernil was tender. The chili crisp oil was acidic but so was the guacamole. When I had a bite of it all together, it was a big hit of lime. The fried queso blanco was an interesting concept, but the taste was very mild. It didn't contribute a whole lot to the burrito. The burrito looks small, but it was filling because of the thick scallion pancake. I love the creativeness of fusion food, and I liked the thought that went into each component of the burrito. However, given the media attention it's gotten, I expected more. read more

Surprisingly I liked the chicken option here much much better than the pork! The classic pork was just too meaty and heavy for me. Inside Chelsea Market. Stopped in for lunch. Ordered the chicken pancake burrito. They didn't have the green sauce prepared and had a little left in the bottle. Should've picked the carnita burrito that doesn't use the green sauce. Chicken burrito was dry. The chicken itself was good, but the lime rice that was packed inside added nothing to the flavor. Ended up removing the rice. Probably needed the full portion of green sauce for this to taste better. Ended up switching half of my chicken burrito for my diner's pork burrito. Much better flavor profile - the chili sauce gave it a little kick, and there's no rice. read more

Forsyth Fire Escape.......has a great backstory. During the Pandemic Fernandez and Isabel feed their community from the fire escape of the apartment building the couple shared together. A bucket with a string tied to it was the way food and money was transported since contact with ours was limited. Now on to the food...... scallion pancake burrito is definitely a game changer. It has several elements of crunchy, salty and savory. The location is a bit far for some locals (not me though) but a great spot for tourists and true foodies. Definitely a great spot to check out. If I could make one suggestion I wish the burrito had a sweet element, maybe sweet plantains on it??? read more

Interesting, but far away, overhyped, and perhaps overpriced. I happened to be on the far west part of the city and got to finally try this scallion burrito I saw online elsewhere. I visited this spot inside of the Olly Olly Market (which itself isn't super easy to spot the 26th street entrance.) There was no line when I was there midday around 1pm on a Thursday. Location and maybe price may have a bit to do with that. It was $14, but that isn't much more than a burrito from Dos Toros these days. They try to upsell you on the sauces to get sides of them, but no thanks, since it says it comes with the sauce already in the description. I got it and took it to eat on the way out. Overall, I'd agree with others that is a bit too salty. The lemongrass sauce definitely was in there, but just in one little pocket. It was tasty. They probably should just put more on there for the price you pay. I honestly appreciate the scallion pancake, but I don't think it adds enough flavor or texture that I'd pay a premium to go here over Dos Toros. I appreciate the invention, but hopefully they are cooking up some new tricks to keep people coming back to this distant part of the city. read more

Walked over to this spot after work. It is a little out off the way as there is not close transit stops. Once i got there after work around 5pm, it was mostly empty. Forsyth Fire Escape was easy to locate and their menu is nice and simple. I ordered their scallion pancake burrito and was surprised at how good it was. The meat was perfect and in good quantity. the scallion pancake itself could have used more scallions and be a little flatter as it was thick. It felt like a nice thick flour tortilla but it was still delicious. Along with the burrito, I got a coconut Thai Ice tea (I got the last of it) which was a little on the thick side. Not sure if this as cause i got the bottom of the barrel of it but the taste was still tasty but left a sort of grainy feeling in my mouth. With the burrito I got one of each sauce; the Lemongrass chili crisp oil (5/5) and the Bodega Sauce (4/5) the Lemongrass oil was spicy enough that it left a tingle but you can keep eating more. The bodega sauce was good but not as memorable. I will have to return for the burrito and the service. The owner/staff was very friendly. we got to talking as they make the burritos fresh and it takes about 5-10 min to make. There's a ton of hype around this place and I've been wanting to try it for the last few years but never got around to it. My friend who was visiting nicely agreed to grab some for us for dinner. They were good - not sold in out in minutes good, but a fun innovative twist to a normal burrito, and enjoyable every once in a while good. It's a scallion pancake with pork filling, so it's going to be greasy and salty. I will say the pork filling was definitely on the salty side, whereas the chicken option was more balanced, and it was a little dry. I wish overall there was more sauce or juice from the pork to make the burrito juicy. But the size was big, each half the size of a coke can? And definitely filling for a full meal. read more

Food: 3/5 | Service: 3/5 | Experience: 3/5 I have been really excited to try Forsyth Fire Escape for a long time, but was a little disappointed. We got the pulled pork burrito, scallion pancake with chili oil, and vegan thai iced teas. The burrito was pretty good and had amazing flavor, but the portion was quite small for $16. The avocado they used had browned and also tasted a little bad. Everything was quite oily, but that may have just been the style with their very popular chili oil. The thai iced tea tasted like it had went bad and had a sparkling taste like when fruit expires. In the Olly Olly market there are plenty of seats and is a great casual food hall to visit with friends. Regardless of the experience, I would go again and give it another try. read more

Came here to try out the scallion pancake burrito since they have a solid location to go to. This was my chance to try it out! Overall, the burrito was pretty good. Was made fresh at the time and was filled with pulled pork. The pork itself was really flavorful, but my only wish would be a more sauce on the inside or some kind of dipping sauce on the side included with the burrito to counteract some of the dryness of the meat. 2 bucks seems a bit hefty for a small side of lemongrass crisp chili oil. I have had really good scallion pancakes. I have had really good burritos. I don't think that this was the best meal I've ever had. The sold-out preorders back when they only operated out of their apartment, their long awaited opening, the lines at this physical retail location at the start of each day and the general hype from rave reviews on social media give off the impression that Forsyth Fire Escape has crafted a magical fusion of two prominent cultural dishes, appealing to many taste buds. For me, the scallion pancake burrito was a bit of a miss. It's $15 for a burrito you can easily hold in one hand with just 3 fingers. When you think burrito, you think of a wide rolled-up sandwich, but this one was like half the width of those juicy, fully packed burritos. Additionally, the top fourth of my burrito lacked filling and gave me a mouthful of room temperature dough. I finally made it to the meat, and sure enough, that plus avocado was delicious drenched in chili oil. Yum. I would give them a chance if it were larger and served warm, but unfortunately, I think as it stands, I wouldn't come back. read more
