After driving 9 hours on our way to the NC shore, we decided to stop for the night. We checked in…read moreto our hotel and decided we must stretch our legs and do some walking. A quick search indicated that this greenway was nearby. What a great find! The paved path is approximately 1/2 -3/4 mile around a beautiful lake and includes several beautiful wooden bridges for taking photos, fishing and viewing the lake. The entire area is well-maintained and is wheelchair friendly. There is a large pier at one end of the lake for fishing and many fishing spots around the perimeter of the lake. The paved path is not directly by the lake, rather up the bank from the water's edge. There are several benches placed along the path for resting or taking in the scenery. We saw geese, ducks, turtles, and rabbits. Had we stayed longer, I feel certain we might have seen other wildlife. There was not a dedicated parking lot, but cars were parked along the road in the bike lanes. If I lived in the area I know that I would be a frequent visitor!

We went out on a half day trip when the inshore fishing could generously be described as "crap". Captain Butch decided to take us offshore to improve our odds (despite the gas he would burn). After about fifteen minutes of fishing, we wound up hooking what turned out to be an 11ft tiger shark and fought it for two hours. I will probably never hook up on a fish that big again, and I'm so very pleased he and Chris let us work it for as long as we could. On the way back in (and we were already running late), he stopped the boat and let us pull some sharks and bass off the bottom so we could have something in the cooler for dinner. I will fish with Butch and Chris out of Southport for as long as they care to run a boat. My yearly trips to the beach now give me one more thing to look forward to!

Great public water access park…read more Easy peasy boat ramp, inexpensive usage fees and a friendly marina. Good for canoeing and kayaking. Picnic areas and even a couple overnight spots to camp make this an easy getaway for an afternoon or a weekend. The marina store has basic tackle and bait for purchase. Can't vouch for the golf course, haven't tried that yet. Ps the fishing is pretty good too.

I was impressed with his knowledge of where to fish, what to use, and the habits of the wildlife on the river. Also find out the his company also does float trips and rental several different types of water craft for river use. It's not often one that a client gets the owner of the business as a guide, I was fortunate. If you decide to fish the Smith call his company and ask for him. Don't have a tackle box? Not a problem at Lakeshore. Mike, the owner and fishing expert, helps you with everything you need to get started. Very affordable for a family outing, and there are two large ponds, so it is never "too crowded." It was only $6 per person to fish all day. Forget the Blackberry at home, but not the fishing chair. Take a day and try something different at Lakeshore Fishing.

The game warden or dept Sheriff occasionally make an appearance to check on the location, mostly in the summer. There are multiple boat accesses. This one gets as crowded as the others during the weekend especially during Bass tournaments. Great place to have a picnic /cookout with the family if you're fishin off the bank.

You can park at the lower or upper access, I recommend parking at the upper if you aren't paddling…read more It is about a two mile walk that doesn't loop. The trail is very sandy in some parts so be prepared for that, I also recommend wearing bug spray. We had a blast walking out onto the rocks. You can also play in the river, bring a picnic or go fishing.
