I called and discussed my project in detail with a guy answering the phone. Was told I would get a call 'next week'. Now, 4 more calls to them and one month later... still no response for my approximately 100k job. Not sure what is going on over there but if they are not returning calls now just imagine what would happen if you are under contract with them! I feel I dodged a bullet. read more

FormLA was taking care of my front yard since January 2018. I fired them recently for flagrantly ignoring my very specific, detailed instructions on what _not_ to cut back in my yard. Over the past 18 months, though, I had several problems with them. On their first visit, they removed dormant milkweed plants. I had specifically pointed out that these plants were dormant, not dead (although, being "native plant experts", you'd think they wouldn't even need to be told). They replaced the plants, but the replacements still haven't gotten as big as one of the ones they had removed. I asked them to focus on weeding the parkway areas. Being on a corner lot means there's a lot of parkway, and while I do have lippia planted there, the weeds were also quite present. Months went by and it didn't seem like they were doing anything about the weeds. When I finally asked one of the workers to focus on that, he complained, "That's going to be a lot of work!" Um, that's literally what you're being paid to do (and paid nicely -- $375/month for 18 months is almost $7000!). The workers would cut back my plants far too much, even though I really like the jungle look in my yard (and said so from the beginning). They also didn't pay attention to the seasons, so some things that should've been cut back when dormant weren't cut; they just like sculpting and manicuring the plants, as far as I can tell. The last straw for me was when I specifically told them not to cut my artichoke plants (not native, but still had edible parts growing on it) and my coyote brush (overhanging a path that isn't used much, and probably could be tied back instead), and only lightly trim the black sage. What they did instead was a complete massacre of my plants, and now that we're entering the slow growth season, I see my horrendously bald front yard every day and regret not firing them sooner. WOW is all I can say. They are such a super company to work with. After spending 5 years of doing cheap-o landscape work and throwing our money away, my hubby and I decided to hire Form LA. They did a retaining wall and hillside plantings at our home in Pasadena. The wall is absolutely perfect. The workers showed up on time every day. They clean up after themselves. The plant selections were well thought out and low water, low maintenance, won't deteriorate our hillside, and the deer and rabbits so far are not eating the plants...yippee! I won't tell you they were inexpensive- It was not an easy decision to hire them. However, I feel like we got a great value for the level of service they provide- which i'd refer to as absolutely spectacular. I love looking at our beautiful hillside and would do it all again in a heartbeat. read more

We called around to several landscape architecture businesses in LA. We discovered FormLA and had Cara (a horticulturalist) come out and visit our place. We have a small balcony and we wanted plants to hide the view of the alleyway. Cara came out and saw the area, took pictures and then emailed us some ideas. She listened to our ideas and our style and designed the plans based on what would work, as well as what we like. We agreed on several plants, grasses and succulents in large pots. Her team came and put everything in a few weeks later. Cara then returned to make sure that I wasn't killing the plants (as I told her I have a black thumb). Form LA is great! We initially heard about them through a friend who had been using them for a while. Our first project was just a little update on the back yard - we have a very heavily landscaped yard, but had some holes where plants had been dying. They came through and put in plants that were better suited for those spots (mostly in shade). After that, we moved to using them for ongoing maintenance and have been really happy. They come every other week and prune everything naturally. They regularly fertilize and monitor the watering to make sure that we are not overwatering the lawn or beds. On short notice, they have also added things like mulch, gravel or additional plants for any open spots. Once you sign up with them, they will assign someone to support you and coordinate the visits - you can easily reach them by phone or e-mail anytime, which makes changes/updates really easy to make. We are moving soon, but look forward to working with FormLA at our next place! read more

Wonderful job and very knowledgeable in low water and native plants. I actually had a small job done and these folks were so sweet and efficient that I'm now planning on a much larger job. FormLA did a wonderful job landscaping our front yard, and Cassy and Kirk were an absolute joy to work with! Our house has a modern contemporary style, and Form was able to match this perfectly while providing the functionality that we required. Cassy asked a ton of questions, listened to us, and took pages of notes which Kirk turned into several different designs which we were able to customize and ultimately implement. Their solution was very comprehensive and included a complete drip-line system with automated controller unit, stucco repair (our fault, not theirs!), beautiful concrete work, a fountain, and an amazing array of plants. Lighting was out of our budget, but the FormLa team ran the low voltage lines necessary to add it when we could afford it. Unfortunately, over the first couple of years several of the plants went to the big nursery in the sky, but Cassy and Kirk were quick to suggest heartier replacements. read more

When my husband and I decided to re-imagine our front yard, we called/emailed a handful of local landscaping companies for estimates. Out of these, Form LA was the first to return our message, and also the only company that has consistently returned our calls, and always the same day. Cassy came to our property exactly as scheduled (hooray!), and spent well over an hour with us, answering every question we came up with and explaining quite clearly all of the steps that re-landscaping would entail. Who could ask for better service? And with a smile, too. The actual process of redoing our yard has not started yet, but thus far I can HEARTILY recommend this company! We're in the hills above Glendale and were dreading being 'taken' because of the many difficult angles on our property. Now we're looking forward to the entire process. Way to go, FormLA! read more

Please, please don't throw away money on your landscaiping project with this company. First, and most importantly, they are incredibly overpriced for what they do, they may purport to install low water plants their designs leave a lot to be desired, and the installation is sub par. Sorry, but after 10,s of thousands of dollars, more than disappointed, and hope you don't make the same mistake The design, now a year later, looks nothing like that for which they charged an extraordinary amount. Plants died, some of which they replaced, many have died. The overall design is more than disappointing and was not in line with what we requested in our meetings Low watering and water saving? It's yet to be seen. Their installation of the underground watering was sub par and many areas do not get water, many of plants have died. In addition: Many of their "add ons" such as monthly maintenance were ridiculously costly They suggested we have their service to take care of a very small area. It was $450 for one day a month to do minimal work. The add ons, such as the lighting, we learned were charged 1000% if you use them, do not let them do lighting, electricity, anything. additions we did with them were more than excessive. The owners are quite dismissive and non responsive. I'm sorry what started out as a good business idea, water saving landscaping, has been overtaken by greed We have to add, their employee at the time, John, was terrific. read more

After we made a major change to low-water landscaping, we were having a very difficult time finding someone to not only maintain the property on a week-to-week basis but also make the changes and repairs that are necessary after such work. After some research brought us to FormLA, Sam came out to survey the property. We quickly got an estimate and started the service. We could not be happier. Our rep Sam is easily contacted by text or email for small week to week changes -- remove a dead plant, change out some flower beds, etc -- but also coordinated larger tree removals and trimming. The crew is quick but thorough. The company may be a bit much if you have a simple lawn and a few hedges. But for a well-landscaped property with regular adjustments required, FormLA has surpassed our expectations. read more

We would never know how good they are as they never had a designer call us back TWICE! My husband and I recently bought a large property. We had A LOT of things we wanted to do. Outdoor lighting, built in bbq, new landscaping, vegetable garden, new driveway, etc. We called once and they said they would have someone get back to us. A week later, no response still. We called again and my husband asked if they were too busy for new work. They apologized profusely and promised to have someone contact us. 3 weeks later, again, no response. We give up. FormLA loses. We contacted another company and within days, a designer came to our home, took pictures, asked us questions and we meet them this week, in person, to discuss design ideas. I would never do business with a company that can't even call you back! I can only imagine the frustration we'd have with reliability. Called to asked about their services and all i got was qualifying questions as if i couldn't afford their services. i wouldn't have called if i wasn't planning to spend money. maybe it's because i don't live in beverly hills? customer service is horrible. it would have been a lot more professional if they just stated minimum budgets. wow, i felt disrespected. classless customer service. i can't image how they treat their customers on jobs. good luck if you decide to go with them read more

I was planning on having a project done on my backyard and I saw a FormLA truck at one of my neighbors. I stopped to ask if they could come look at my yard and give me an estimate on my project. John C. Measured yard and we went over ideas of design. I was excited about the project and John said I would receive the estimate in a week. After not hearing from him I called and he said he was really busy and he'd email it to me the following Monday or Tuesday or he would deliver it in person as they were working right around the corner. Well, that never happened and called again. John said he was still busy and now it was another week. I asked him is the job too small for you because other landscapers delivered estimates the following day. He said they were not' as detailed and efficient as they were. He also said he didn't say he'd give me an estimate in a week etc etc, but he said he would try. That wasn't true and now 3 weeks had passed and I never called again nor did he. I would never refer anyone to them. John was too arrogant and rude at end of our last conversation. Don't bother even calling because there are plenty of really honest and courteous landscapers who would love to have the job. I found an outstanding one, good in all ways something that is lacking with FOrmLA. read more

We have been creating our dream garden and landscape for the past three years. Our partners in this project have been Form LA, their designers, their production staff, and their maintenance crew. The FormLA guys are total amateurs, don't waste your time or money. We saw them doing a project at the neighbor's place, things looked great, so we hired them to do a similar project in our yard (installing sprinkler systems, new trees, walkways). We caught several of their "hard workers" drinking beer on the job. These clowns buried our sprinkler pipes underneath the walkway concrete. The first winter came, and the things broke. Don't try getting anyone on the phone, you call and get the run-around. Of course, theyre all too quick to call you reminding you about payment. And they're grossly overpriced. Also, notice how they only list their PO Box as an address, they won't tell you where their actual offices are located. Hmmmm, why would that be? So they don't have a parade of angry customers, perhaps? We had to hire someone else to come fix their screwups. After the second winter, the same thing happened to our neighbor's yard. Don't touch these guys with a 10-foot PVC pipe. read more
