We are hotel guests so was hoping the food would be great so would not have to leave the property. The recent Yelp reviews are So good I had high hopes but also concerns because a lot of reviews before the remodel were low. A nice environment with the same staff won't improve the food Or service. Dinner we ordered the Italian combo pizza. I looked at our neighboring table and their crust looked like a hand tossed crust so I was looking forward to trying their pizza. Ours turned out flat so was a little disappointed and only ate one slice. Also, It was supposed to have meatballs but we got no meatballs. When we started eating I realized a topping was missing but my dinner companion didn't want to wait for remake Or make a big deal out of it. We went inside to pay because the waitress left the check with no pen. I took the opportunity to look at the menu to see what we missed And it was the meatballs. We do have breakfast buffet with the hotel stay so tried the breakfast next morning. Much better: service was nice and attentive, fruit options were fresh and the variety was good, the little croissants were not great but toasted it turned out ok for a sandwich, meat options are good, but the spinach sauté dish they cut up the two meats already offered and ruined what could be a great vegetarian option, there was a sign for whipped butter and peanut butter but it was only pre-packaged. read more

I had the wedge salad--crisp, fresh, and made even better with the extra pickled onions I asked for (highly recommend). Paired it with a Maker's Old Fashioned that was smooth and perfectly balanced. This was truly a tale of two meals. Meal number one was dinner and I had the seafood scampi. The flavors were just OK. The downside was a decent seafood restaurant will clean out or make sure most of the sand and debris that comes in shellfish is gone That definitely did not happen in here. There was a lot of sand from the mussels and clams and some hard chunks of shell as well. Had tiramisu for desert. It was dried out and not. Dry good...felt like it was made a few days ago and just stored in the fridge. Decent wine selection and very nice waiter. Not going to lie.. I really wasn't surprised at all. I read some of the reviews and they are pretty accurate with what they say. My gf and I came here for Valentine's Day. 5 course meal for $58 per person. Which to be honest is not bad at all. As we arrived the host greeted us. Every monotone and sounded like she hated her job. Anyways we sat down and had a chance to look over the menu. Our waiter didn't really know the menu. I believe he was new so we cut him some slack. Our first course came out. 1. Amuse Bouche. Which was a crouton with bacon jam on top. Literally a one bite thing so I understood that. 2. Buratta Confit with asparagus. Also very small dish but they put it on a cool plate so I guess that's ok?? So far not impressed at all. 3. Ricotta ravioli. And guys it was 1 ravioli.. just one. This whole time literally made me feel like we were at a tasting and not a 5 course dinner. 4. New York steak. Literally like a 4 ounce steak. With a beat sauce that looked like açaí. I'm glad they got the temperature correct. But again literally a 4 bite steak. 5. Dessert which I'm not even going to get into. Just not worth mentioning. Overall the "5 course menu" was more of a tasting then a dinner. Very sad and overrated. Especially for a Valentines dinner. Waste of money and time. Completely hidden gem in the Marriott! You don't need to stay at the hotel to come to this place! Very comfortable and spacious booths, great wine, high-end wine glasses, super friendly and attentive service. Pasta à la vodka and chicken cacciatore with a special twist, both very delicious. The salads are expensive for the size. The entree salad appeared to be about the same size as the side salad. I do not recommend the Caesar salad. The pasta was decent, but nothing special. Service was good, which you hope for when the restaurant isn't crowded. A business traveler can get a decent meal without much effort here, but I would not travel far to eat here. read more

So I have been eating at this bar/restaurant many times and about once a week. I would order something out and eat it at the bar, while having a few drinks. I have asked permission many times and never had an issue. The bartenders have always allowed me. This week, I've eaten at the bar/restaurant a few times and today I ordered out and was enjoying a nice double with a few more to come. Instead, I was told that I could not bring in outside food and need to leave. I told the women, that i have done this many times and had permission from the bar staff. She they are wrong and it was not allowed. I don't understand how multiple bartenders could all be wrong. So not sure what happened today and way all of a sudden I had to leave. The same women who said It wasn't allowed, has been in the bar when I've done it the past. So I have eight more days at this hotel and will be eating my dinner and getting my drinks some place else. Looks like they just lost a ton of money I am a lifetime Marriott Titanium Marriott Member with over 1,700 stays around the world. This is the first time it has ever happened. Frustrating part is that I asked permission and the staff said it was ok and had no problem with it. read more

The service was great. The people here were super friendly. The food, however, could have been a lot better. Breakfast: You could go to the buffet or order from the menu. We decided to order our individual items off of the menu; eggs, hash-browns, and sausage. The eggs weren't the fluffiest and the meat wasn't my favorite. Even the bagel that came with my meal was burnt. We ended up hardly touching our food and ended up making a pit stop over to Starbucks. Dinner: We ordered a half margarita pizza and a half Italian sausage. The servers allowed us to do a half and half which was nice. The pizza had a LOT of cheese on them and the crust seemed to have a lot of oil on it. My margarita was smothered with cheese and had slices of tomato on top; which is not what I was expecting. Yelp showed pictures of their wood fire pizza; marinara sauce and pieces of fresh mozzarella. That's exactly what I didn't get. Overall, it was a little to heavy for me. Formaggio was ideal as it was in the Marriott and we didn't have to Uber around anywhere for food. The only downside was it super heavy and bland. If I do end up back here, I'll definitely customize my food some more before ordering. read more

Bad. Bad service, bad manager. I order via phone and the person says she'll call my room when it's ready. After 30 minutes of no call, I go down to see if my food is ready. Neither waitress nor manager acknowledge me waiting to be helped for around 2-3 minutes. Restaurant was not terribly busy, and just an acknowledgement if they were busy would have been great. The host comes back and tries to figure out where my order is, goes to the manager, who just shakes his head like I didn't order the food. Finally they likely figure out that they didn't place the order, so the poor host apologizes that I have to come back when my food is ready, even though it's definitely not his fault. The crappy manager who doesn't talk to his customers or his employees is truly the issue here. He sucks, and made no attempt to apologize, take an item or $$ off the bill, or address the situation to me in any way. read more

I never expect much from a hotel restaurant, but I'd at-least expect something edible. I ordered the grilled chicken salad. It was cold, not seasoned, and not a grill mark in sight. I understand it's during covid times and we have to be patient but when I did ask if it was actually grilled chicken I was told yea, it could have been grilled yesterday. If that's the case on them making a meal that consists of lettuce, cheese, and chicken, I can only imagine what they do to prepaid their pasta dishes and burgers, MICROWAVE? I'm very impressed by Formaggio at the Marriott. I had the power lunch which is steak with chimmichuri on it, a small salad and some minestrone soup. Fries also came with it followed by a rootbeer float. I was talking to someone so you'll have to imagine all that since I ate it instead of taking a picture of it first. All served well by Shy, our waitress. The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic, all in all, fantastic. You just can't go wrong with the Marriotts in Sacramento. They get one star for lying saying their spaghetti and meatballs were not premade. Got this yesterday over the phone and I asked specifically if food there was fresh. The host told me it was, yet it's ready for pick up right away. How is that possible? He then told me he doesn't know what the cost is until I come get it. Being in a hurry I decided to not argue with him and just get the food. I showed up to find cold, overcooked pasta, with super salty leukwarm meatballs, and weird marinara with grape tomatoes for whatever reason. Husband got just plain sausage and spaghetti with little butter and was charged $25. His food was super hot which tells me they made his from scratch but mine was premade. I was taken to lunch here by a business associate, cause normally I might not come to these kind of places, you know upscale business meal American food places. They make good places for having meals with people you might not know that well, so the food is pretty mainstream and upscale and there's sure to be something that will please all parties. The inside is modern elegant, and this restaurant is located right inside the Marriott Rancho Cordova, so of on a business park street. There's not too many people when we arrive, and we're seated quickly. We talk of business and the weather, when the server takes our drink order. Looking over the menu, it's a little limited for lunch, but has pastas, pizzas, and burgers along with a couple of appetizers and salads. We start with the Caesar Salad. Pizza or a burger is a bit too casual or messy for a business meal, so I go for the Shrimp Scampi pasta and my associate orders the same as the other pasta was just Spaghetti and Meatballs. Service is very cordial and non-intrusive, which is a good thing when talking business. I like that's it's not too noisy in here too. Our food arrives and look great. The Pasta is a thin Capellini type with shrimp, tomato and basil on top, finished with a white wine sauce. The pasta may have been cooked a little too long just past al dente, but were still fine. The shrimp were cooked fine and not overdone like some places do. It was a completely fine dish, nothing to get too excited over, but good for the intended meal. Lunch was a decent affair, and I'd return, though maybe if I was paying, I might pick somewhere else. It's very convenient if you're staying here at the hotel for all 3 meals. read more

For a restaurant in a hotel in Rancho Cordova, Formaggio Taverna does a quality job of giving you a nice meal with a nice atmosphere to boot. I came here for a group meal at 9 am on a Wednesday morning. Considering it was hump day and there was a free continental breakfast buffet down the hall, the place was unsurprisingly empty except for us. This meant we were well attended to and received our food all at the same time and piping hot, straight from the kitchen. The corned beef hash didn't impress me as much as some of the other corned beefs I've tasted around town (it's hard to beat Taylor's Kitchen), but it was still tasty and even better with the crispy hash browns I ordered on the side. All in all it's a great breakfast option in a city (Rancho) known for an embarrassing lack of notable eateries. read more

I have to commend Formaggio for providing a free Yelp dinner. It's a great move to foster goodwill and support the Yelp community. It's also a great way to satisfy my voracity for free food. I hope more restaurants catch on and start offering free Yelp dinners. (hint hint) I was impressed by how nice the Marriott is decorated upon walking in. Everything looks new and tasteful. The pool looked great with rocks and waterfalls and the restaurant was nicely decorated with plenty of space between tables. As we sat down we were greeted by a nice Yelp welcome menu which outlined the dinner menu which offered 5 choices of pasta to choose from. Bread was on the table along with olive oil with roasted garlic, which I really enjoyed. The antipasti consisted of a few cheeses, olives, and red pepper, no complaints there. The salad was decent, and the pasta entree was very good. I chose the Farfalle pasta with smoked salmon. The tiramisu was right up my alley, it is one of my favorite desserts. The service was fast, excellent, and attentive but tapered off at the end. We didn't receive our coffee or tea, and the server was MIA for the last 10-15 minutes. Perhaps there was a shift change? Overall the quality or food and service is solid here. If I were looking for a nice dinner in Rancho and didn't feel like driving too far i would definitely give them a visit again. First off, shoutout to Formaggio for partnering with Yelp. The Marriott that Formaggio is in is one of the nicer Marriotts I've been to. I half expected the food to be presented catered style, but instead the food was prepared per individual! I feel kinda bad giving 3 stars because I got a free Yelp dinner, but I'm fighting the urge to write a biased review because the servers were so nice and the food was free. We started with warm, soft bread and some grocery store quality red wine that lacked complexity (don't get the Tamas Sangiovese!). The caesar salad was fresh, but a little over-dressed. Next, I got a fettucini with porcini proscuitto sauce - it had good flavor, but I really hate dried pasta. The shell pasta with chicken was blehhhh. I think they forgot to add... flavor? To finish, we had the tiramasu and it was really icky; it had the consistency of old cheesecake... Food was 2.5 stars, but 3 stars for good service. read more

We arrived at 6:15 and didn't get our food for well over an hour. My plate came out about 10 minutes after the rest of our group and the waiter came and said my dish was on the house per the manager because he was aware of how long it took for them to bring it out compared to the rest of my party. I thought geez that is amazing! Well, I got my bill and guess what, the dish was on their and they only compt a drink. Being frozen out of our homes, we headed to Marriott's. We were pleased to have a restaurant right in the hotel. The meals were great, with generous portions of meat. The salads were tasty and fresh. Our evening server, Damien was very helpful in providing choices of food for specific diets, and in recalling what specific entree each of us had had the evening before! Such professionalism! This is not the one. We were staying at the Holiday Inn and as we drove into this hotel cul de sac , noticed this sign. Being tired from traveling, we decided to shoot over here for what we hoped would be a nice dinner on Friday Sept 28, without doing an exhaustive search on options. Service went downhill rapidly. The server,who was training another server (the girl was shadowing her) forgot to put in our risotto appetizer order (and on second thought, why is risotto an appetizer? Doesn't it take a while?) which we knew only b/c we heard her say so to the guy behind the counter. We did not get bread until about 25 minutes after we ordered. I found it to be dry and overly herbed up-- it was foccacia strips. The appetizer came 35 minutes after ordering. It would have been courteous to admit it was forgotten, so we could have had the option to cancel it. There was a table near us full of 6-8 women who were getting lots of attentive service, but other than that there weren't a huge number of people dining (it was after 7). I had the hangar steak salad. Very disappointing and expensive ($16 I think) for maybe 2 oz of tough meat dressed with oily pesto on top of arugula and sad chopped tasteless tomatoes, plus like three carrot shavings. The server had asked how I liked my steak and I said medium. It was rare: red in the middle. I was starving (45 minutes since ordering) so I ate it. Husband had cacciatore, which he thought was just okay. It was supposedly a half chicken but it was a mighty small half chicken. The ambience looked promising from the outside, but the first half of the restaurant was full of loud bar patrons, no separation from the dining room. A guy who seemed to be a regular went to the people behind us and had a lengthy, loud convo about finding God and what an awesome musician he is in a very piercing voice. Not that the restaurant can regulate that, but it happened, and indicates it's the kind of place where people feel comfortable participating in behavior that may slightly disturb you.
