"I was just hired for a project in New Jersey, and I believe I found the guy you've been looking for!!!" was my excited long time contractor's exclamation on the phone. "You did?..." I responded skeptically. For over a year, I was searching desperately for an architect who would turn my, newly purchased New York City apartment, into an inviting yet also exciting home for me. I renovated three apartments before this one. I went once through the French Country look and twice through the Conservative Contemporary style. He works with a clear vision for your place, and just as he holds the reigns tight on his team, he will make sure you too do not slack. He kept me on my toes when it came to choosing materials, going to showrooms and making decisions. He nudged me when I balked at choices that seemed too daring, and in retrospect, I am so thankful that he did. He can seem stern if you try to cut corners, but I learned that it comes from his pride in his work. Throughout, he treated my apartment the way an artist treats his potential masterpiece. Having seen FORMA's creations in many design sources, I knew they were one of the few local firms whose style/aesthetic matched mine. "We retained FORMA to design a modern interior for our new construction home overlooking woods. Andreas and Larry focused on how we as a family would use our new space and applied those insights to material selection, furniture layout, etc.. As a unifying design element, they covered one interior wall in stone-look tile, rising through all four levels and wrapping around both sides of the wall. Ceiling bulkheads combined with LED strip lighting and extensive use of recessed MR16s created a dramatic effect in our main living areas. They took advantage of a wall of windows lining the stairwell by designing an open-tread stairwell with thick oak treads and glass railings. Guidance on furniture and trim selection resulted in a sleek modern space that somehow also feels warm. We purchased this traditional colonial in 2001 for its scenic, private grounds and location. However, I always wanted a contemporary style home with clean lines and lots of open space and windows, and a big kitchen to entertain. The house was about 7000 square feet, but it was lacking the openness I desired due to multiple small rooms and many walls. That is when I turned to Forma Design. They reconfigured the space and worked within the existing footprint of the house in order to create this openness. The end result was absolutely breathtaking! I now love and enjoy every corner of my house, and, when I have parties and have friends over, they all love it as well. My experience was exactly the opposite. I had admired their work for a long time, as I was in the process of renovating my own place. I found FORMA Design on HGTV.com, and after reviewing their projects on their wbesite and on facebook, I got a lot of inspiration. I emailed them with questions on where the get tiles I liked for the bathroom, colors I liked that they had used in projects for my bedroom, and got a very polite response with all the information that same afternoon. To the lady who complained they were not forthcoming with information, I just want to ask: are you a client of theirs? or demanding information for free? do you also call random law firms asking for free legal advise, or doctors offices for free medical advise, and also have a fit when they don't drop everything to service you? just saying... read more

I still remember reading an article where Andreas (Forma's principle designer/architect) described his mom as saying, "always live like the Paparazzi are coming over." The photos were beautiful, the sort of beauty one might first find unattainable or unrealistic for the everyday. At the time I was young and single and lived alone. However, I do not regret the decision of investing in a beautiful design which enhanced my home. Forma Design makes beauty and functionality attainable and that is why almost 11 years later, my family and I still enjoy our NJ home. Needless to say, it is not trendy... it is timeless! Relocating and re-branding my practice has been a tremendous success. FORMA helped me define my goals and get the most out of the new office space I had purchased. We've done two projects now with Andreas, Larry, and Juan and have been very happy with the work.
