    Metz & Sons dresser

Fabulous job in taking my vision and turning this dresser into a beautiful masterpiece.

    Custom cushions.

Impeccable work!!! We needed custom cushions for our new bench and after reading all the great reviews we decided to go with Form & Function. Roger was quick to reply to us reaching out and we were able to tell him exactly what we wanted. And he delivered! We also went to his shop for a meeting and got to see all the other pieces they are working on. Like an old work table they were using for a bathroom vanity. He came out and took exact measurements and when they arrived they fit perfectly. Very happy with the end product.

Hole in underside of chair. The bands go across the bottom of the chair and seat cushion sits on top. Bands kept slipping out

We have a vintage midcentury leather sofa and a chair that were in bad shape. The sofa cushion was so worn down that sitting on the rug on the floor was more comfortable. As for the chair, a bug must have eaten through the wood that holds the straps in place to support the cushion. The bands kept slipping out so the seat cushion would fall out. I checked with several different furniture repair shops and couldn't find anyone who could do the job for a decent price. A lot of vendors see midcentury pieces and immediately hike up the price. Roger at form+function is amazing and the process was super simple. I emailed him photos and he got back to me immediately with very fair pricing. Took them about a week to finish the work. It's unbelievable. The couch is so comfy now -- feels like I'm sitting on a brand new couch. And the bands for the chair are totally secure and solid now. I love thrift stores and CraigsList for furniture finds. Really happy to find this place. Will be my go-to for repairs to upcycle good pieces that just need a little extra love.

Roger was amazing to work with! He is prompt with his communication and keeps you updated throughout the project. I needed custom table legs made for a vintage 1970s table top I had acquired and really didn't know what I was in for. Roger's pricing was fair, professional, and he stayed on track with how long the project was expected to take. This review is long overdue because I've been enjoying my table ever since he delivered it back to me in December. Roger is a 10/10!

We could not be more pleased with the work Roger did! I bought a really nice 1 of a kind sofa from someone online 13 years ago. But after a decade of wear and tear it needed some TLC. Roger and his staff were great! The work was done on schedule and it looks amazing. I was able to keep my 1 of a kind sofa instead of replacing it with something with no character. If you want quality work done at a reasonable price-point, this is the place!

Corner piece of table was knocked loose. They were able to reseat and relevel the mounting hardware so piece is flush and secure.

Roger and his crew do exceptional work. They restored our Alfred Kill "Bird" chair after the original leather disintegrated after use. Roger was very helpful and patient as we thumbed through all his samples of leather and was communicative and accomodating throughout the whole process as we had a change order midway. We found our go-to people when it comes to furniture repair and fabrication. When a supposed window covering expert twice messed up a curved valence housing a motorized shade and curtain, Roger and his carpenter came out and fabricated it perfectly to our vision. They even repaired a panel on our outdoor dining table free of charge. Great people to work with who do great work!

I have wanted a custom cushion for my outdoor bench seat for ages so , when form and function opened down the street , I decided to finally get it done Roger was fantastic! Responsive, helpful and professional. They have a huge selection of beautiful fabrics. They came out and measured the next week and the cushion was ready a week later . It fits like a glove! It honestly couldn't have been a better experience. I highly recommend

    Chair after

I recently inherited a chair that had unfortunate looking fabric. I am really happy I took it to Form + Function to be reupholstered. Roger was friendly, patient, and responsive to all my emails. He had tons of fabric to choose from but also gave me recommendations on where to find cheaper options. They finished the job in the time frame promised and the work is excellent! The upholstery is perfect and they fixed the loose piece on the front at no extra cost. I am so pleased with the result that it is hard to decide whether I want to sit on the chair or just look at it! I'm obsessed! Thank you F+F!

We could not be more pleased with our finished project from Form + Function. We had an idea of what we were looking for and the owner delivered above and beyond our expectations. He provided excellent and responsive service and the craftsmanship is exceptional. In today's world where there is so much cookie cutter product, it is a wonderful opportunity to have a custom-built project. From start to finish Form + Function was wonderful and more than exceeded our expectations.

We were so happy with the end product! Another successful project for The Go 2 Girls LA

As personal organizers and decorators, we wanted a company that would provide a beautiful product that was within our clients price range and timeline for her project. Roger Form And Function was very communicative, and worked with in all of our needs to create a beautiful and product! They were able to make slipcovers for our clients Pottery Barn couch, arm chair, ottoman, and even the pillows and cushions! It looks like a brand new couch by the time they were done, and even offered pick up and delivery of the items. Couldn't be happier with the experience we had with Form and Function, and we know we will have projects for them in the future!

    Chest of drawers under lofted

I had had a unique loft-closet project in mind for a while and must have contacted close to a dozen furniture builders before I found Form & Function - the only builder that confidently said they could build it. It took a while, but I wound up with a very fine piece of furniture that is exactly what I wanted. Terrific. Roger stayed in contact throughout the process. He and Miguel (an expert wood builder) gave me a few design suggestions that unquestionably improved the overall design and function. I unhesitatingly recommend Form & Function. They are the real deal and I will definitely use their services again.

But then I decided to procrastinate and mull over the idea of saving the consultation money and just doing it myself.....I used to believe I could handle interior design on my own, buying furniture piece by piece over time and never being satisfied with the results. THANK GOODNESS I decided to invest (actually quite affordable) Because, after two separate consultations with Lucie, my perspective has completely shifted. I will never attempt DIY interior design again--LOL. It truly takes a special eye to understand how dimensions, shapes, colors, and sizes all matter. Since working with Lucie, I've noticed a remarkable difference in the way my house feels and flows. Every piece of furniture she recommended has contributed to the overall alignment and harmony of my space. Lucie is an absolute pleasure to work with, and I can't recommend her enough. Before contracting with Dwell for a full home, down-to-the-studs reno of a 50-yr old Pasadena home, I'd fired two general contractors: The first was a luxury, longstanding (30 yr) Pasadena firm that was simply too doctrinaire, languid, and non-responsive in their approach; the second was the opposite: too green, easily overwhelmed, and quickly passive aggressive and combative in communications to the point I was uneasy handing over the keys to demo and reno my home. I reset, cast a wide net for new prospects and interviewed 11 firms, all while recognizing that perhaps my expectations were too high and I was part of the problem. Gio confidently asserted that I *should* have high expectations, as it was my home that I was renovating. Fast forward, and the end product is phenomenal, surpassing my expectations without a single regret. A few notes: 1. Client dedication: Dwell and its full team (Gio, my phenomenal project manager Michael, Santiago, and the office team) all never gave a doubt that their focus is on doing the job right; i.e. in a manner that the client and the Dwell team would both share pride in. I'd be remiss if I didn't say Gio and Michael demonstrated a strong ability and interest in understanding the client's vision and truly wanting to bring it to fruition (far beyond simply delivering a product and moving onto the next project, as you risk coming across among other GCs). 2. Productive subs: Dwell knows its subcontractors well and they are each true craftsmen. Each was professional and courteous, regularly going beyond my expectations before I'd even seen their work product for the first time (e.g., more electrical outlets than I'd imagined from electrical sub, the kindest gentleman focused on getting the cabinetry and wood finishes "just right," a foundation and framing sub with steady-handed focus and easy client rapport...). Routinely, Dwell got quick responsiveness from subs, including when I'd mistakenly given the wrong delivery date for pricey patio doors (long story short: I realized my error at 6:30pm the night before and Michael and team very serenely hustled and were able to get their installers onsite the next morning to receive and install $20k patio doors; done with professional realism that it wasn't guaranteed yet effort to ensure the safety and secure install). 3. Realistic, predictable pricing: Gio tries to price projects right from the outset to do the job well. Plenty of contractors will lowball with a likely intent to add endless change orders or limit what is delivered. Dwell, in my experience, priced the project to do it well from the start and minimize any surprises or impediments that would limit them from doing the job they believe you actually want, regardless of what other contractors may tell you. 4. Respectful: There was not a single moment of tension or confusion. Michael, Gio, and team communicated incredibly effectively, even when your day job limits attentiveness or creates time demands. They more than understand and give advance heads up of items coming up for you to weigh in on, or suggestions to make the project go smoothly if you're time-constrained. 5. Humor: I'd moved from New York and was blunt at the outset that I didn't need to be best friends with a contractor, but I do expect basic courteousness and professionalism; they easily brushed past my concerns and regularly had me laughing. Doing a full home reno takes up a lot of mental space even when it goes well; to not be stressed but actually laughing through it is priceless. [As a post-script, I should mention that the reno was completed and I moved back into the place 2 weeks prior to the January 2025 Eaton Fire that ravaged Altadena and came within 4 blocks to my place before miraculously dissipating, sparing my block and the house. The care and concern that Gio, Michael, and team demonstrated despite the project having already been completed far exceeded what I could've imagined. This is a team that cares.] Big cheers to Dwell--Gio, Michael, and team: they have built a unique team culture in a tough business where it is easy for clients to be trepidatious and cautious. He gave us a lot of ideas that showed he's been doing this a long time, and it honestly made it easier to trust the whole process from the start. After that, spent time at the office going over everything in detail. The full walk through helped a lot because nothing felt vague or rushed. It was clear how the design would turn into real work, step by step. Questions were answered as they came up, and things were explained in a way that actually made sense. Once things got going, communication stayed solid. Gili and Michael were both easy to reach and stayed involved the whole time. Updates came regularly, and if something needed to change or be adjusted, it was talked through without any attitude or stress. The office team was also really helpful and kept everything moving smoothly in the background. Overall, the whole experience felt organized but still very human. Things weren't perfect every single day, but that's normal with a project like this. What mattered was that people followed through, kept communication open, and delivered what was promised. End result came out great and matched what was discussed from the beginning.
