Form + Function did a fantastic job creating a custom table base for me! I ordered a resin koi pond coffee table off Etsy and the slab I received was beautiful. I had asked for legs to be included with the table and unfortunately the artist neglected to install any hardware or indicate optimal placement of the legs. The way the tabletop was designed was asymmetrical and drilling into the resin would ruin the beautiful design. In comes Form + Function to save the day! Roger and the craftspeople worked with me to narrow down a design that would allow the slab to rest in it without any hardware as well as match my other furniture. They provided several rough drawings and I selected one. Further I was able to ask for some modifications once the design had been fleshed out with measurements. They exceeded my expectations and even filled the wood joints prior to lacquer and paint, giving the piece a sleek look with no visible joining. The piece was elegant and simple. They were able to finish the whole thing and deliver it to my home in about 4 weeks! I'm so happy with the way it came out. We have a vintage midcentury leather sofa and a chair that were in bad shape. The sofa cushion was so worn down that sitting on the rug on the floor was more comfortable. As for the chair, a bug must have eaten through the wood that holds the straps in place to support the cushion. The bands kept slipping out so the seat cushion would fall out. I checked with several different furniture repair shops and couldn't find anyone who could do the job for a decent price. A lot of vendors see midcentury pieces and immediately hike up the price. My latest assignment for Form + Function was a bespoke dining table with twin parallelepiped bases. A study in solid geometry that weighs as much as a Toyota, it looks fabulous and the build quality is superb. Made with Oak and Alder, its bases and top are angled at a snappy 60 degrees. It features flush steel feet to achieve a level position on our wooden floors that do not pass the ball bearing test. They sound like they know what they are doing but once I started asking technical questions they felt threatened by them and turned me down. All I was looking to make was cabinetmaker chairs that I have 2D renderings that show measurements and also have the fabric. but when I ask specific questions that I was concerned about they turned me down saying that they are not the right people for this type of work. I dignity feel comfortable working with them after all. I mentioned to them numerous times that I had the exact measurements and 2d renderings . I also send them the built specs. I had a very good builder that was supposed to be building these for me but unfortunately he passed away during Covid . So I had his build sheet forwarded to these guys and once I did that and requested to replicate it , owner turned me fine right away because it became challenging for him. It seemed like the just want to do what they want to do. They gave me a price that was not cheap at all so if I am paying for something that expensive I should have a say in how I like my chairs to be. Owner found that as challenging and said that I should work with someone else that specializes in those type of chairs . So it was a big waste of time for over 2 months after all . Then I got an attitude about why I was questioning about their initial 60 % deposit. I have never once had Donnie tell me that they need that much to start a job. They were clearly not the right people to work with . From the stat to the end I was skeptical about their ability to be able to make there although they were charging an arm and a leg. read more

I'd been looking for someone to build a custom dining bench for me for quite some time, and had hit nothing but roadblocks. I originally went to Sofa Interiors because of their numerous Yelp reviews, but it wasn't going well (see my review there) so I decided to start my search over. I came across Form + Function and decided to give them a call. It started off well, because Roger not only answered the phone, but he was polite and gave me realistic expectations. I emailed him my list of what I wanted, some reference photos and measurements, and he actually emailed me back, which seems to be unheard of in this industry. He also gave me some design recommendations, which I ended up taking. I met with Roger the following week, to go over a design plan and give him a deposit. He gave me the option of providing the material, or he had many to choose from as well. I decided to choose the material, since I had something specific that I wanted. He then came out to my house to measure before he started manufacturing. Once he started building the bench, he also kept me updated on the status (again, not typical in this industry.) Roger was able to upholster some down-feather couch cushions I had and insert a down-alternative that feels like the same thing. He did a rush order for me, because I needed the cushions soon, and in about a week I picked them up and they looked brand new! We are so very glad we found Form + Function. They have made three custom pieces for us and we are just about to start on a fourth. Roger is very detail oriented and is an excellent communicator, his partner Miguel is a fabulous builder as well. We had two particular places in our house that didn't seem fit anything -- we wanted a hutch but nothing we saw had the right dimensions. Roger talked with us on email, sending pictures and sketches back and forth and visited our home twice before starting the build. We ended up with a lovely hutch, a built in kitchen bookshelf and a beautiful matching curved cabinet / floating shelves in a nook in our living room. They are stunning and wonderfully built. I hired Form + Function to do a custom built full wall unit/wine wall for our dining room area of the house. After getting a few outrageous quotes and poor communication from other groups, I had these guys come out and access the area and type of unit we were striving for. I was confident after looking at the custom furniture they had built on their website and discussing what material options we had etc. We started the project with them and had great communication throughout the entire process (which is rare out there). If they were unsure of anything, they would either email us for clarification, or schedule a time to come over and show us a particular section of the unit to give us the chance to make modifications, which we did. We received numerous updates on where they were with the project and got it done within the time frame that we had agreed upon. The finished product is beautiful. It looks like a $15,000 Restoration Hardware wall unit. Every time I look at it, I am amazed at how good it looks. They couldn't have done a better job. They took the time to install the wall unit with precision and made modifications to accommodate our not so perfect walls. We will definitely be hiring these guys again as we have a few more cool ideas. They will also be reupholstering the cushions on our outdoor patio set this winter.
