This review is for For Less Towing which also seems to do business as Cooters Towing. We are residents of an apartment complex that has an agreement with a neighboring business to use their parking lot. At about 11pm on Friday October 14 I noticed a tow truck with one of our guests' vehicles. When I walked over to the parking lot I realized that 4 vehicles were missing. We attempted to contact the number on the towing signs located on the street (For Less Towing). When we could not get in contact with the company I proceeded to the address on the sign - looks like a crack/drug house. I drove around the surrounding streets and could not locate the vehicles. I contacted the police who stated that the vehicles were allegedly towed by For Less. About 30 mins later we got in contact with an individual who claimed to have the cars but demanded $480 cash per vehicle. They claimed to not accept credit cards because then we could sue the company. You will also notice on several reviews for this company that regardless of the location, the amount owed is $480. However the rate is allegedly calculated based on a base rate, distance of tow, storage fee based on length of time. When we asked if we could retrieve the childrens' car seats now and collect the cars the next day, we were told we needed to pay 50% to access each vehicle. We inquired about where the cars were physically located and the individual on the phone would not provide an address but instead told us to meet him at the the house I had been to earlier. When we indicated that we had just been to that location and it did not seem like a legitimate business and we did not feel safe, he became agitated and threatened to disconnect the call. He indicated that we would not get our vehicles back and damage to the vehicles was possible. We felt extremely unsafe. Once we paid we had to turnover the car keys though no vehicle registration or other details were requested from the vehicle owners. We were not allowed to follow along to the location where the cars where stored. We waited around on a dark street for over an hour and then were signaled to another residential location where the vehicles were now parked. Some of the vehicles were warm indicating that they had been driven around for a while as opposed to stored on a lot. Both the property manager for my apartment and neighboring business have indicated that they did not initiate a tow. Our vehicles were either illegally towed or stolen by someone claiming to be affiliated with For Less. read more

Forless Towing was a wonderful experience for me at a trying time. They arrived within hours (which I'm taking to be a remarkably short time) on the Saturday before Christmas, to New York City to retrieve my vehicle with no tires/rims. The father and son team was incredibly careful with my vehicle and we were able to transport it 60 miles away. I need to highlight how difficult it was to find a towing company that was willing to move my vehicle in its condition. They were also very fairly priced and quoted me for LESS than some other companies were (and those companies were stating that they were going to do additional damage due to the lack of wheels). Overall an excellent experience at a challenging time. I would recommend them for ALL your towing needs. read more

Towing my car and also leaving it in a different property/ address to what the sign said is very poor and unprofessional. one thing is touching the car, another is disconnecting my cameras ( which you're not supposed to do). touching the cameras inside the car without permission is illegal and unprofessiona. They worked above and beyond for us. We had to tow a car, motorcycle, and a riding mower, between towns in NJ while we were across the country in CO. They were incredibly responsive, were able to help us grab the motorcycle and mower from the shed and bring it all the way out to the tow truck. I don't know what I would have done without their help. I see that a lot of the reviews are related to repossessions, so definitely take those with a grain of salt. For us it was a voluntary towing, so no bad feelings, and honestly I'd work with them a thousand times over. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PREDATORY COMPANY. Let me begin with this: my husband and I absolutely understand that our car was towed due to our own error. We had no issues with that and at no point did we give the tow truck operator or any other employee a hard time about the tow. We believe in accountability. Clearly, For Less Towing does not. Saturday night we parked our car against a curved curb at an apartment complex in North Plainfield. At 12:30am we found that the car had been towed. The town police gave us the phone number and address of this "company". I called and the tow truck driver said he could bring the car back but it would be at least an hour. We were tired and it was pouring so we decided to just order a Lyft home and pick the car up in the morning. The driver said, "The cost is $485 but if you meet me by 9am, I'll give it to you for $305." Please note that the sign at the complex lists their fee at $345 plus $5 per mile and their address was 2 miles from the complex. So his original price was $125 over what the sign dictates. Also the sign says cash only, but the Predatory Towing Prevention Act (and the town of Plainfield) requires tow truck operators to accept credit. The next morning we arrive at a very sketchy location and our car is nowhere in sight. I looked at one of the dilapidated houses across the street and saw a small storage container that said For Less Towing on it in the backyard. I called the number again and a woman picked up. I explained that I was at the provided address and didn't see our car. She said "It's not there, we'll be there in 15." Over 30 minutes later, she shows up and asks us to sign a homemade, handwritten invoice before we can even see the car. On the bottom, also in handwriting, it said something along the lines of "We are not liable for any damage to the car or stolen items." We did not know where the car was located, we were very uncomfortable with the process and location, and we knew that if we didn't sign the invoice, they wouldn't have brought the car to us, so we signed. She told us the truck would be there in a few minutes. Another 30+ minutes later, the truck shows up with the car on the flatbed. They release it and we all go our separate ways. As my husband and I start heading home in our own cars, he calls me. His steering wheel had to be turned 30 degrees to the right to go straight. We hoped it was just an alignment issue so we were going to drop it off to get realigned. We weren't even going to bother For Less about it. On the hour-long drive to our area, he was legitimately terrified for his life. While on the highway, his steering wheel was shaking violently and it was difficult to keep it straight. The roads were still wet from the morning/previous night's rain so we were both very worried something would happen. I stayed behind him the whole way and thankfully we got to the shop in one piece. Apparently, his inner and outer tire rods on the left side were severely bent and it was going to cost about $400 to fix it. We know (and God knows) that the tow truck company damaged the tire rods for several reasons: (1) My husband is a nut about his cars. He takes them in to get checked the second something is possibly wrong. On this specific car, he had just gotten an alignment done less than a month ago and he had an oil change a week ago. At both places, the tire rods were straight and undamaged, otherwise either shop would have tried to sell their services to fix them and they would have been fixed. (2) The car was driving like a dream before we parked at the complex. We would not have driven an hour in the rain in a car that was incredibly dangerous to drive, both for our own sakes and the sake of others. This is especially true when you consider that my husband has a newer, nicer car that we could have driven instead, but we wanted to save gas. (3) When we parked our car along the curved curb, the curb was on the right side and the street was on the left. Because of the curve, it was not possible for the tow truck driver to pull the car onto the flatbed at a straight angle so he had to pull it by the left side to tow it. My husband called the company to get their insurance information for the damage they caused to the tire rods. The guy was incredibly defensive and kept stating that there was no way they did it and in the decades they've been towing, they've never had an issue. Yeah right, every tow company, even the reputable ones, have made mistakes. Instead of taking accountability and offering to cover the relatively low sum for the damage they caused, or at least giving us the insurance information, he implied we were just driving around with horribly bent tire rods. Once our mechanic sends us a picture of the rods, I will upload, because there is no way we chose to drive in that condition when we had a nicer option. read more

I haven't been this angry for a while. Maybe even a little saddened by the fact that a business such as Foreless Towing Company is an in town business that wanted to charge me $480.00 in cash for towing my car away and not even having it for 30 minutes(Ridiculous amount). The sign says it should have been $225.00 the fee(Picture attached). I wasn't visiting, I was giving a disabled child therapy as an employee from the State of N.J. just like I have for the past 6 months for twice a week. The building owner gave me permission to park in 3 spots and I did(Picture attached too of the 3 slots I can use as per owner and they were all empty). He had 2 other spots open from the 3 he said I could use. Just tonight he called and had me towed out of the blue even though he knew who I was and that I was working(Shame on Him too). Okay I get it, but your company Foreless Towning Company barely budged when the Plainfield Police Department intervened on my behalf and I also pleaded my case and we all explained it. 300.00 in cash is not a break at all. You had my car for 30 minutes. And now I look on your website and see you accept all sorts of payments. I work in the town you own your business in. I might have even provided services from Early Intervention for one of your employee's children or a relative. I teach as well during the daytime in Plainfield so I could have very well been your child's teacher at some point, but today you were adamant about making a lot of money off of me and didn't care about the rest. I did post this review on various websites. I hope this town where I work in (Plainfield)will think twice before they give your company business. Please definitely choose someone else. One with at least reasonable prices and people who are honest. They said I needed to pay cash on the spot. On their website they do accept all sorts of payments. Dishonest people too.. Pictures are attached and my fee should have been $225.00 and not the $480.00 they wanted in exchange for my car back. $300.00 in cash we paid. I was working, not partying. . read more

Stay away from this underhanded company! There business practices are designed to take advantage of people! They recently towed my car without consent stated I was in a no parking zone I wasn't and charged over the price they listed which was $305.00 and I paid $480. For a tow to a tow yard that they didn't want to disclose location of. No office met me on the side of the road to take my money! Stay away from this tow company causing real problems in our town posting their tows on social media. Hired by a new property owner to tow cars the building is not even leased out yet.
