I hit streat of unlucky, first my car had to go back to dealer for the second time in a few weeks for some warranty work and today the loaner I got simply broke down after a stop at local postal office for no apperant good reason, simply wont start nor shift. Called Benz roadside assistance and they dispached Criger's service to tow the car back to the dealer. My car stalled while food shopping. The car was parallel park with a car in front and car in back. I was sent a tow truck driver who didn't want to do his job and told me he could not move the vehicle. Once contacting Criger's service and speaking to Adam, the supervisor he was so kind, caring , accommodating and accountable. My car was towed by Criger after a severe car accident. The accident was 100% the other drivers fault and the car was totaled. In the confusion of the accident, I left many of my personal belongings in my vehicle, including my credit cards, my glasses, and my school books. In violation of state law, Criger withheld access to my personal belongings for several days "until they got paid". It was borderline extortion. Criger made an already terrible situation worse. I cannot stress enough how terrible this business is. I hope that municipalities have revoked contracts with Criger. read more

What the hell is a "battery disconnect charge" on a motorcycle. They wanted $95 for this and only agreed to bring it down to $45. We're talking about turning a wrench to disconnect a battery terminal. This is the most abusive charge on anything I have ever seen. And of course they refused to transport the bike home, which was literally one mile away in the same town. They insisted on bringing it to their place, where of course it racks up a $40 a day storage fee. This was on a mishap my daughter had with her Sportster. It's sad that places will still take advantage of a customer when they see it is a young female. Will not be recommending this place at all. read more

TERRIBLE company!!! They contract with Mercedes Benz so when I called MB for a tow, they dispatched criger and said 60 mins - 1.5 hours later, I call MB to get an update and they say "sorry sir, our system shows they are on site at your location", I run downstairs and obviously no tow truck - I call MB back and say, your system is wrong, no one is here - they call criger and get some BS - eventually after 2 hours, I say just give me the service provider number and I'll call them directly - I call criger and he immediately apologizes and says the truck is in a town 5 miles away and will be there in 20-25 mins - sure no problem - one hour later and now three hours into this ordeal, I call MB and they say again "sir the system says the provider is on site" I explain that no one is here and criger is gaming the system to make it look like they got here in a reasonable time so MB doesn't scold them and take away the contract - I then call criger and tell them to update there system and stop lying and saying they are on site - I get the normal story that the drivers mom had a medical emergency, blah blah - I don't even care that it took so long and they couldn't make it, but don't scam MB and me, tell the truth that your short on trucks or whatever so I can get someone else to come - as I tell criger to cancel the service, magically the driver gets here 5 minutes later - super unfortunate bc the driver and dispatcher seemed like nice guys but the owner must instruct them on how to game the system to make it look like they arrive in reasonable time - do yourself a favor and ask your roadside what provider they are dispatching and if they say criger then explain that you want someone else read more

Doing business with this company is about as unpleasant as can be. Our insurance company, NJM, sent them to pull one of our fleet vehicles out of a ditch on route 23. Generally our insurance covers all roadside assistance expenses, but Criger's told us they would only pay a portion and we needed to pay the balance. Strange, but ok. I'm fairly sure the towing fees were inflated because neither my company nor myself as an individual has ever had to pay out of pocket for roadside assistance through NJM (which is widely regarded as the best auto insurance in NJ). On top of that, neither the tow driver nor Adam in the office were very nice during this entire debacle. We ultimately did get everything resolved, but the process of doing so was tedious and wasted nearly two hours of our technician's production time. read more

I had to deal with them to tow my car to the mechanics, and it took about 4-5 hrs for them to come, and every time I called to check on a eta, they would tell me the driver would be there in 20 min. This is absolutely a scam... thinking that I cracked the oil pan on my car when hitting a curb oil all over the street. It sounded that the engine was damaged. I called the Insurance company to report the slight accident. They stated if I have a mechanic that services my car.. . We contacted my mechanics service station and explained what had occured. The Insurance adjuster made arrangement for the car to be towed.. This Tow truck showed up and towed the car (26 miles) to the service station. The tow bill was $400.00!!!!!! This price was padded due to they knew the insurance company was going to handle the tow. On another note it was not damaged as i suspected. Thank God. so we did not put it through the insurance... I called the tow truck company to explain and the were very rude and stated IT IS WHAT IT IS.. After calling several tow truck companies in the area they said you were screwed... Not a problem.. Received very helpful service from Criger today. My family has had bad experiences with Criger's management in the past (similar to things mentioned in some other reviews), so I was a little wary when my insurance company sent a Criger truck. Thankfully, it was a good experience. Our tow truck driver (Darryl, I think) was pleasant and professional, and knew just how to maneuver to drop my car off at a tricky, small mechanic shop. Quite possibly the WORST towing service in North NJ. Towed "kids" car after accident (called upon by local cops, who are under contract with them). They realized the kid was "green" and took advantage of him. Towed car to their yard, and not only were they unresponsive to my calls they held my car hostage all weekend due to them being "closed" (and charged me storage fees for weekend). Come monday i paid to have the car towed home, Which took them 3 days to do so, apparently my time means nothing(ie - waiting around for them to arrive, being told more than once, it'll be there in an hour = liars). So avoid if you can, count your change, verify contents of car! Super disappointing but not surprised. Total fiasco over $500! ....how do i give less than 1 star? read more

Used Criger through my USAA roadside assistance. I had a flat tire that would not come off at all, so I needed to get it towed to a tire place. Gentleman was friendly and approachable. He even took he time to fill up the tire so it wouldn't be driven with a flat for the 2 second ride up the ramp. Easy tow, seem like good guys to me. read more

Everyone is always quick to complain but rarely as quick to compliment. My insurance company called Criger Service to tow my car off Rt. 80 - the State Police were unwilling to wait behind my car and keep me safe but within an hour John showed up and had us off the road in less than 5 minutes. Quick tow service but beware after that. I broke down and had my car towed here with AAA. They told me I needed a new alternator for my 2003 Hyandai élantra. They wanted 600 dollars. Wish I could give less than 1 star as this company is disgusting. Terrible experience having a tow with them through AAA. Driver was a dick and so was dispatcher. Driver arrived while I was in the house where vehicle was located and without trying to contact me or let me know he was there, attempted to leave after about 2-3 minutes. I caught him at the corner of my street while he was on the phone with his dispatcher and he said I was a no-show so he is going to another stop. Keep in mind we are 100ft from my vehicle during this conversation and this is now about 5 minutes from the time that he arrived to my location. I said "What am I just out of luck then?" His response was "Yeah, pretty much." then he sped off. I contacted AAA who relayed this info to the dispatcher and was told another truck was on the way, should arrive in about 20min. waited over an hour and contacted AAA again. Truck had never been dispatched because original driver lied and said there were no plates on the vehicle. Dispatcher told AAA truck is now being sent and should arrive in about 20min. Waited about another hour and called AAA again. Dispatcher told AAA truck had been diverted to another call a while ago and would contact me directly when in route, should be about 30 min or so. Waited approximately another hour and called AAA again. Within 2 minutes of getting off the phone with them driver contacted me to say he was in route but was 45 min away. When driver arrived I began with a polite demeanor despite what I had been going through, but he came with a bad attitude so I followed suit. I made my original call just before 6pm. Arrived home with my vehicle just past 12am. Needless to say I will never use this mickey mouse company again. Unfortunately they cost AAA a member also as I canceled my membership the next evening. I would rather pay double the amount out of pocket in cash on the spot than deal with any of these jackasses again. STAY AWAY!!! read more

Had a damaged oil pan from raised man holes. Was able to gimp the car into a nearby shopping center. Took the truck an hour and a half to get to us, but otherwise we had great service. Worked with Jon. He was very aware and knowledgeable as to how to tow my modified car...lowered and powder coated after market rims, etc. He was very thorough and explained what he was doing, so we weren't so nervous about the car being further damaged during transport. He even cleaned up the oil that was left in the parking lot. I would highly recommend them for those that have lowered vehicles. They know how to handle them. On a flatbed! read more

We broke down on the I80 after having probably the worst day of our lives. When things could not have looked any bleaker there was Charlie, the tow truck driver! He knew we were stuck on a dangerous highway and came as quickly as possible to save us. Not only was he quick and professional he was a lighthearted sweet guy who made the situation a whole lot easier to handle. Charlie helped us find a hotel nearby and even tried to get us a discounted rate. He seriously went above and beyond for us when he clearly didn't need to.
