When entering a shop or the sole purpose of a sweet and unhealthy morsel, your senses and your brain unconsciously switch to what I would call 'sweet mode: DEFCON 5'. So when I entered Forfars bakery on exactly this level of sweet mode, It was a very ungratifying smell that greeted me. The smell was overwhelmingly of cheesy, savoury baked goods, which kinda messed up my senses, and possibly my brain functioning, momentarily.
Once though I overcame this, I ordered a bakewell tart for 85p and gobbled this little treat in no time at all. It was pretty tasty and not too dry, with a decent bit of cherry in the middle, so that was all good. But to be honest I was still a little in shock by the cheesy smell I had encountered. It wasn't a bad smell, just overwhelming and I think they should consider how it marginalised and makes the sweet eating community feel when they enter the shop. Something for the Forfars AGM me thinks. read more
