Every fourth Wednesday at 3 pm at 2950 Richardson Drive in the Dewitt Center, around ten of us gather for great book discussions led by librarians Jacob Towne and Jessica Esperanza. If you're looking for new excitement with books, people and ideas, join us! For more specific needs, I've driven recently to the Colfax branch at 10 Church Street. Now on Fridays 9:30 a.m. to probably 10:00 a.m., they have the Story Time! I been to three! First time, the theme was bears! Second time the theme was dogs! Third time the theme was dinosaurs! They give the parent an Alphabet card, first time mine was a B for Bear, second time, mine was a V for violin, third time mine was a F for Flower! The parent with the child looks for the alphabet on the mat, sits on that Alphabet! Storytime! We listen with our ears, we look with our eyes, we are silent (pointing to the mouth), we sit on our bottoms! They do have simple movements to get the parents and the children moving! One time was the Hokey Pokey dinosaur style! This is a nice library! I would recommend this library in town Auburn, California! Just as any bookstore just as any library, I spend most the time in Children Section!

Sadly, I had several documents…read moreI needed printing so, the El Dorado County Library, i.e., the EDC LIBRARY has available modernized computers you may use as well as printing documents which by the way, is completely a Godsend. Ahhhhhh~Yes, I do hear the Angels' Choir . . . However, I never applied for an EDC LIBRARY ID Card so, I decided I'll apply for an ID Card on my birthday which just so happens to be TODAY~YAY: I was given a short library card, application form which I copiously completed, submitting my CDL, signed the application, and gave my application and CDL to the awesomely cool Librarian. Afterwards, the Librarian escorted me to the computer station giving me succinct instructions using the computers. IMPORTANT FYI: When you're ready printing your documentation-whatever you do, DO NOT PRESS CTRL + P; unfortunately, using this shortcut will truncate your document printing only the first page~DOH! Instead, scroll down to the bottom of the page searching for three dots in a column in the right side clicking the mouse on the three dots selecting PRINT. Voila~Finished!

This year I learned about seed libraries!…read more Found out online that this location has a seed library (the only one I've found in Placer County) so I stopped by this week. But before making the drive out here, I decided to call and verify that they did have one. The person who answered the phone (I think her name was Dorothy) was very friendly and upbeat. She said that yes, they do have a seed library and that it was right next to the front desk. It was my first experience ever with a seed library so it was quite interesting. Basically the library gives away free seeds! At this location, they have these little drawers with labeled packets of seeds and you just write in the binder which seed packets you're taking (limit 5). They also have nice little color brochures with a planting calendar for Placer County. Took my 5 little packets home and was feeling pretty excited. I just got 5 free packets of seeds! :) Got home and decided to start some bell pepper seeds. Opened the packet that was labeled "California Wonder Sweet Peppers" and was startled to find little black seeds inside. While I'm no master gardener, I do know what bell pepper seeds look like and these definitely were not it. I compared them to my broccoli and cabbage seeds, that looked slightly similar, but these black seeds were of a different size. Figured somehow they had just gotten mislabeled and it might be an adventure to plant these mystery seeds and see what plant pops up. :P Decided to start some eggplant seeds so I opened the second packet labeled "Long purple eggplant." Inside the packet consisted of 5 seeds--2 black, 3 cream/yellow. What the?! The cream/yellow ones could pass for eggplant seeds (or even possibly bell pepper seeds) but they were definitely not little black seeds like the two inside this packet. And why would ONE variety consist of two different types of seeds? I then realized the seed library would probably not be the best place to get accurately-labeled seeds. You might want a bell pepper plant and end up getting a basil plant instead. But hey, it's free, right? Another thing that concerned me was that on their website, they suggest that you plant the seeds and then save some seeds and return them to the library. In my experience, there's a lot of cross pollination that goes on with plants so you can't really save seeds from your plant and expect it to be the exact same variety. *shrug* Maybe their seeds somehow don't get cross-pollinated or something? But anyways, it was a fun experience to see a Placer County seed library. We'll see if anything grows from the seeds!

Well my (now) wife and I came up here to get our marriage license a few weeks ago, and then we…read morereturned yesterday to pick up the official proof of marriage certificate. Well initially we were both pretty nervous, having previously dealt with the getting records copied and licenses issued through our home County of Sacramento. It was a challenging experience in Sac County at times, however that is not the case here at all! The moment we walked in we were greeted with a happy smiles from a couple of different people who were working the public counter. We had our forms filled out that we had printed offline and, and just had to do a couple of other things. The ladies reviewed our paperwork, we swore a quick oath and we were on our way with our license! It was that easy! When we returned yesterday to pick up our certificate, it was equally as easy, and we were in and out in about 10 minutes including parking. I cannot say enough good things about the fine people here. Thank you for making our special day a little less stressful.

We went for the reading to the dogs, it was super cute. There was a Australian Shepard puppy that was so happy and cute and loved hearing the kids read to her! They have a lot of things for the children to play with, a little kitchen, and tons of fake food and accessories. A puppet show stage, and lots of cute puppets. They offer lots of story time events for the kids and little ones, u can find the schedule through the websites or pick one up from there!

This is an amazing library. Our car broke down in Pollock Pines, and while we were waiting for the…read moremechanic to give us new brakes, we spent the afternoon at this library. My immediate thought was I couldn't believe how much smells like my childhood library. It feels like being in an episode of Between the Lions. The librarian was such a sweet angel, and let us sit inside for hours, just reading and hanging out and resting. It was truly magical inside. I can also just tell how valuable of a community resource this library is--as soon as school got out, so many children came in excited to grab books. We went here with our 3 and 5 year olds today…read more Pros: 1. Small play area, but still lots of room to play. Easy to keep an eye on the kids. 2. Bathrooms are right there, just outside of the play area. 3. Friendly help desk ladies. 4. Clean 5. Hand pedal trains were a huge hit, and they left my kiddos exhausted. 6. We forgot socks, they brought us some to borrow, they were clean and fresh. 7. Not crowded at all. Cons: 1. Small play area, no where to really run around. 2. TVs were ALL over the place. The play area had 5. Yes, 5, in a maybe 30x30' room. We requested they be turned off, as we were the only people there and were told no. When another family came the volume got turned up and it was uncomfortably loud, as well as fighting with the kids to keep them playing rather than watching tv. They really need to remove the TVs, there is absolutely no reason to have TVs in a play area. 4. The slide is really fast, which means that kids come hurtling out the end and fall. We pulled over some of the bean bag chairs and let the kids slide into them. Overall it was a good experience and we will go back. Although I really wish they'd reconsider their 'policy' of not turning the TVs off. It's ridiculous that when we were the only people there they still insisted they stay on. We went to let the kids play, not watch Disney Jr.
