It is also one of the most important historical building still to exist in "Roseville Historic Downtown District." During the early 1900's the Mc Rae Building was also known as the "Opera House". The upper floor the building was used for many social events such as ( Cultural Center / Meeting Hall / Live Theater / Plays / Roller Rink / Lyric Movie House / Boxing Matches / but never for an opera. The ground floor was at one time occupied by Mc Rae real estate/insurance office / "Piggley Wiggley Grocery Store / Roseville first new paper/ and Post Office. The staffers I spoke with were both so helpful & friendly. They had recently updated their hours--Tuesday through Sunday 9a-4p. On Saturdays, they offer a free docent led tour at 10a. You can also set up a docent tour ahead of time for an extra fee. General admission was $7 & our kiddo was $6. The museum is 2 stories with exhibits on the first floor & the current art exhibition in a gallery on the second floor. It's a bright, clean space with a nice layout & lots of room. There is a cute & organized gift shop with lots to browse. The restroom was clean & well-maintained. The museum has lots of info & artifacts. There are a few hands-on activities like a puzzle, making rubbings, & feeling pelts, but some buttons weren't working on the audio displays. History is presented from past to present, including tragedies native tribes faced. Outside, there is a 1/2 mile loop to walk & a garden of native plants. The trail was a very easy & peaceful nature walk. Along the way, you find informative signs about indigenous culture, nature, & see petroglyphs. We were told that if we stayed on the trail, we'd be fine, but there were possible hazards like ground wasps, ticks, & coyotes. The only wildlife we encountered were lots of dragon flies, turkeys, & squirrels. Staff at the counter were helpful, knowledgeable, & personable. This is a very worthwhile place for families to visit to learn about the history & culture of some of California's native people.

You cannot get up close and personal with them like you can in Sweden, but we know why this is and why we cannot have nice things. The museum has kindly set up visual maps that help visitors make out the glyphs along the nicely maintained nature trail. If you are visiting in summer please stay hydrated as the trail is only partially shaded. It's about a 1.5 mile loop, but there's a longer bike trail that it is connected to. All is well-marked. $7 admission will get you access to the walking trail (there's probably a way for local cyclists to access the trail without paying but idk man, I'm from out of town.) and the museum, which does have restrooms and a water fountain inside. My friend and I enjoyed the museum and art exhibits indoors, then our nice nature walk outside to view the petroglyphs, mortars, and grinding rocks. We saw raptors, turkeys, lizards, turtles, deer, rabbits, and probably other creatures I am forgetting by now. Definitely stay on the trail as there are these lovely things called ground hornets (stingers up) we were warned about by the friendly staff. The weather was blessedly fair for July (Pocki brought Swedish summer over here and then left with it when she went back home) so we only had to suffer high 80s on the trail. I highly recommend visiting with walking shoes and water bottles. We spent a good two hours here. One could bring a picnic as there are benches outside, but we didn't bring more than a few snacks. Parking is available wherever you can find it along the suburban street. There is not a dedicated lot, but there are a few disabled parking spaces in the front. Came here for a hike and an intimate view of this awe inspiring bridge. Found a loop hike that…read morestarts at the bottom of the valley where the North Fork American River winds around. It starts with a hard and steep climb. The Foresthill Bridge is California's highest bridge, which is some 730 feet above the bottom. The Golden Gate is only 220 feet from the water, so use that for reference. This stretch of the hike is difficult cuz you do have to climb that 700+ feet, and it is not gradual with gentle switchbacks. It is almost straight up for over 40 minutes. I found it even harder during the summer months in Auburn, where it can soar easily past the 80 degree mark, also with little shade. I had to break several times to rehydrate and get my breath back. This was harder than most climbs I attempt. The good is the length isn't that long. I've climbed many peaks some even double this length, but those were more gradual. This was fast and furious, done in less than an hour with lots of sweat. But when that initial climb is done, it is all views and a breeze from there on out. Once on top, you'll meet the highway that crosses the bridge. There is a pedestrian path, so you're nice and safe from zooming traffic. Now you can cross and look down if you dare, into the gorge. It is a thrilling look as now you'll feel the breeze and the glimpses only an eagle would experience. There will be a sad reminder though as you're crossing the bridge. Once you hit the middle of the bridge, you'll start to see handwritten cards taped to the bars of the bridge. It appears to be children or young teens, writing hand messages of encouragement, for people having a plan to commit suicide from those heights. It is sad yet inspiring to see those messages, very humanizing. Once you've crossed the bridge, it is all down hill back to the river. Again no shade but so much easier and faster than the way up. Like with most incline hikes I choose, I always choose to climb first and descend last. It's a solid work/reward progression. This is a gleaming example. Once back down to the river, I'd advise to explore a little down by the water. It was so hot the day I went, that I took off my shoes and waded in that ice cold water. It's a little tricky stepping onto the river stones so I didn't go too far out. Literally just enough to cool off, splashing that refreshing water onto my head and shoulders. It was so hot, that I dried up in no time, without a towel. Awesome end to a hard hike, with breathtaking views. No regrets here.

There are many great outdoor sites nearby (including my own lovely 3 acres in Applegate) for the ceremony, but you need a nice air conditioned indoor site for your reception, especially in the summertime when Sacramento hits 100 degrees F. Applegate Civic Center Club is at 2100 ft. elevation, which places it "Above The Fog" (wintertime) and "Below The Snow". Many times over the years, we've had parties at this facility....most of them for our young daughter in the form of birthday parties. One time, it was around March 5th (daughter's b-day), and it was 42 degrees and foggy in the Flatlands, but at the Civic Center it was a nice balmy 60+ degrees and sunny! Similarly in the summer, we've had events here when Sac was 104 degrees F, while it was a comfortable 96 degrees in Applegate. The air conditioners at Applegate Civic Center were recently installed, making the building much more comfortable than the old Swamp Cooler. They recently remodeled kitchen and the floors, and new windows and acoustical treatment was recently applied to the ceilings to improve the sound. Overall, an excellent budget wedding venue. For brides that want to save on the wedding reception facility, Applegate Civic Center is only available on Saturdays (8 am to 11 pm) and Sundays (8 am to 11 pm). Having rented this facility in the past I would have given it 3 stars but having completed a recent walk-thru, I'm really impressed and the price is right: only $200 per day, $125 security deposit. Because of the price and the newly improved quality of this wedding facility, I'm giving them 4 stars. One of my neighbors recently used the same venue for a family party, and they were completely satisfied with the results.

Plenty of parking, too. I paid a refundable cleaning deposit and $200 for access for a full day Can't beat that price for what was included. I believe in keeping local community history alive so will rent this lovely facility again.

First of all, it's kind of out-of-the-way so that makes it extra interesting, exciting, and enjoyable. There' were tons of wildflowers right along the river, and by the trail. The hike to Codfish Falls is leveled. It's such a pleasant and easy day hike, even with young kids. There's a gorgeous meadow with a nearby river where you can have a picnic or take a nap. There's an amazing payoff at the end of the hike, the beautiful Codfish Waterfalls. There were only 10 to 13 parking spots which are free. A big RV or trucks will take more spaces. Watch out for poison oaks. There are many along the hiking trail. Highly recommended it to you all.

I remember last year when I saw this for the first time I was so incredibly excited- I called all my friends to tell them how cool it was! It was so fun having the fire engine roll down the street blasting holiday music (Beach Boys- my favorite!) and talking on their megaphone to all the kids. Little kids love fire trucks, and Santa, so it really makes the kids incredibly excited, and us adults feel like kids!

Once, when my kid was about 4, we were at the park on Rocklin Rd that is next to a fire station. We walked over to take a closer look at a fire truck, and the nice firefighters invited us in and gave us a tour and fire safety speech. Then, about a month ago, I smelled a chemical/burning smell in the house, and hubby and I couldn't find the source. Recently, we have had roof rats, so hubby thought that one had chewed through an electric wire somewhere in the walls/attic, and started a fire. We called 911 in a panic. Before they arrived, we located the source of the burning smell. It was a tupperware lid that had fallen on the heating element in the dishwasher. That tupperware stuff does not like high temps, and half of it was melted. We called 911 again to cancel the emergency. Rocklin FD came anyway (without lights and sirens, thank God) and were very friendly and understanding. All this and men in uniform too ! Be still my heart........

This location was the original sight of the "Clark House" (1886-1907). Home to Roseville first Bank "Roseville Banking & Trust Co." (1907-1920). "Bank of Italy" (1920) "Bank of America" (1927-1966) and "Roseville Press Tribune ( 1966-1976). This is one of my favorite buildings in Historic Downtown. It's charm and character captured my heart !
