From my separate City of Auburn review:…read more Auburn is an attractive city, especially Old Town Auburn, which attracts passersby on the highway between Reno and Sacramento with the quaint architecture on a hill flanked by a giant sculpture. Its small-town charm is likely why movies like Rocky and Bullwinkle, Breakdown, Wisdom, and xXx had scenes shot here, but the town relates most to the 1996 John Travolta movie Phinome Phenomin Phenomm Look Who's Talking. The guy who discovered gold here in 1849 was memorialized by Ken Fox with a 45-ton concrete (rebar and wire mesh) statue at the entrance of Old Town. Ken Fox was a dentist able to do this in between teeth cleanings and forcing customers to look at super close-up pictures of their teeth in order to sell "special deep teeth cleaning" by the quadrant. This dentist has more "Great Statues" in the area which you'd likely find ful-"filling". Get it? Anyway, it's right off the highway, so stop there and check out Old Town. We usually go to downtown Auburn, so I am glad we came to Old Town this time. Atmosphere - Cool historic town. Lots of locally owned shops. Plenty of places to eat. Walk friendly but not sure if ADA friendly. Dog friendly, at least at the brewery. :) Service - Good, everyone we met was friendly. Price - Depends on where you shop, eat, and drink. Owner Comment - What a great fun town, looking forward to coming back soon when I have more time.

Located inside The Placer County Courthouse building, this museum houses some of the historic…read moreartifacts from the early Nisenan inhabitants. It also includes the Pate Collection of American Indian artifacts and the original Thomas Kinkade painting "Auburn Centennial". The Placer County Gold Collection is also on exhibit here. Free admission and located on the first floor. Second floor is an active superior courthouse. We had a great time exploring this museum.

It was a small room museum and a part of the lobby you can look into inside a courthouse. It is rich in local history. There were artifacts on judges clothings, native Americans history, jail cell and reward system. Medicine and Nursing related technology evolution. There were lots of information to read on along each possible spot. Good museum if you are killing time, not much enjoyable for small kids other than the pretend jail prisoner props you can use for picture taking and the phone code transmission you can try. September 23. 2021…read more Wow now one thousand of any updates. Previous has seventeen votes and has sixteen previous votes. It is a clock. Twenty four hours. Not sure of night hours but day hours will chime on the hour, so nine times for nine am, ten times for ten am, so forth. There been different activities to commerate. As example there been commemorations for Veterans Day, for the Pearl Harbor Day, for the mark of Nine Eleven. There were many USA flags from least September 9, 2021 to least September 19, 2021. One flag for each "HERO" killed in the tragedy. Wow, nice park.

Beer, wine, and coffee from The Pour Choice There's Kombucha, too - let us rejoice! You'll feel at home at Old Town Pizza. An arcade for children... Hurrah! There's also Liu Mandarine Kitchen if authentic Chinese is what you fien. Of course, there are a lot more places to eat and drink. It's up to you to choose, not your shrink! There are many trinkets and gadgets to buy, and it's still fun to see when your wallet is dry. This old town is cute and small. It sure is more fun than an indoor mall.

The first thing that pops in my head when I think of Auburn is the Black RailRoad Bridge. No…read morematter where I'm going too or returning from, I know that when I see the black railroad bridge I am in Auburn and Sacramento is only 45 minutes away. Over the course of my lifetime, I have driven under this bridge over a hundred times . On our way home from one of many fishing trips to Frenchmen or Davis Lake, my father would always stop at a little convenient store next to the bridge to purchase ice cream cones to eat on the way home. What wonderful memories! This black bridge was built in 1909 and actually has a name, (Auburn Ravin Bridge )or referred to (I-80 RailRoad Bridge). The upper part of the bridge is still part of the original bridge. During the expansion of highway 80 years ago, the bottom section of the bridge had to be modified to support the expansion. The bridge design was ( Pratt Riveted deck truss ).This section of the bridge supports the railroad over I-80. Am Trak / BNSF Railway/ & Union Pacific Railroad still currently use the railroad bridge. Over a hundred years old and still going strong ! Woo - Hoo to American Engineering and to all the men and women whom make America Strong !

Named for a former school principal! Those days, one had show respect to the teacher! When the teacher called on a student, the student had to stand at one side of the desk, answer the question in complete sentence! Bow or curtsy and answer the question in complete teacher! Churning butter, you students now days should appreciate parent is able buy butter from grocery store or those days called the Trading Post! Those days, the students, even the Adults, had to churn the butter, it could take many hours! This school house will be having an anniversary of one hundred ten years August 9, 2025! It first had school classes in year 1915, hence upcoming one hundred ten year of celebration. Think last year for classes was in year 1964!

Most folks do not know that right along Highway 49 in Auburn, CA, is a significant piece of…read morehistory. Wedged between a car dealership and mechanic shop is the Chinese Cemetery. It is a 2.5 acre plot of land. It is no longer an operating cemetery. There is a locked gate and a fence around the perimeter keeping folks out. The gravestones and remains have been long removed. All that is left is a wood sign and brick enclosed chimney type structure. There are no information boards. Possibly there once were, not know though. After searching the internet, I found out that the burial site dates back to the 1840s. Auburn was once home to thousands of Chinese in the 1800s. They came like everyone else for job opportunities and to try their hand in the gold mines. During that time in history, it was not common practice or possibly not allowed for the Chinese to be buried in the Caucasian cemetery. So the Chinese chose this location. It was a mile outside of Auburn proper and on top of a hill. The Joss House, a cultural center located in Old Town Auburn, currently manages the cemetery.
