What a great little course near downtown. I was here for the night for work and had a few hours open so went to Forest Park. The rental clubs were top notch Taylor Made irons and woods and the putter was a very nice Taylor Made Spider X. The course was awesome. It's short even from the yellow tees, but it's fun and fair. Greens fees were inexpensive, especially as a guy used to paying Phoenix green fees. Green fees and rental clubs worked out to about $100. What a deal. Thanks to the pro shop staff for being so welcoming as well. read more

Uhh decent course. Layout is cool but random people will walk across the fairway while you're playing, even in the middle of a tournament lol. Very odd. But that's the city for you. We loved our wedding at Forest Park Golf Course! We had our ceremony out on the patio, cocktail hour on the covered veranda, and the reception inside the large event hall. Everything turned our so beautiful, and we couldn't have done it without our venue coordinator Tram-Anh! She was so helpful, responsive, and had great attention to detail. I was pretty organized and shared a lot of information with her prior to the day- of, and she was able to perfectly execute my vision for the decor and timeline. The food was great, the staff was very helpful and speedy with service, and the cost of the event seemed very reasonable in comparison to many other St. Louis venues. I would highly recommend Forest Park Golf Course for your day! read more

I went and played two of the nine hole courses Forest Park after nearly 25 years of not visiting the St. Louis area. I was pleasantly surprised! The Hale Irwin remodel of the courses is excellent. I joined up with two local players and we had a great 18 holes of golf. While the course isn't exceptionally long, it is a very fun park like setting on the grounds of the old worlds fair. Even better was the burger I had at the clubhouse after 18 holes. The staff is very friendly and I will definitely come back and play again when I'm ever in St. Louis for business. read more

It's not the best course, but it is well kept and provides beautiful views. In fact, Forest Park actually houses 3 individual courses, all of which are 9 holes. The 9 holes seemed fairly priced at 31 bucks and I liked how they didn't have course Marshalls riding around telling you to speed up so you can wait more. I did not find the pro shop to be unique in anyway, but I think it served its purpose well and the staff was friendly. They do have alcohol carts and 4.50 a can isn't bad so I liked that. You'll have to drive a bit to find another course, you will cough up more to play them, and tee times are far more scarce! This provides another positive for the courses here. For the borderline downtown area, I would recommend this course as a great option for quality time with the fam or a small work getaway. I gave it 4 stars because I think they would have been better off with an 18 hole course! read more

Better hit it in the fairway or your ball is gone! I lost 3 balls that were hit probably 10 feet off the fairway. Super frustrating. I was playing alone so I didn't get a second set of eyes on it but you can't see your ball unless you're standing right over it. That grass is thick! But the course is nice. Staff is great. I like that they have multiple course options so I will be back to play a different course! read more

Had a 10:30tee time. A fivesome of ladies teed off at 10:45 in front of us. They hit it all over the place. pathetic. It's a Saturday morning! You let a fivesomes out mid Saturday morning? Come on. This golf course is abysmal. In mid-April of this year, one of their golf carts slammed into the rear of my car. Aaron Loehr, the director of golf operations apologized and drove me to my car. With a smile, he promised to take care of the $600 in damages. It is now June 28th, and the golf course has not paid me a penny. After months of back-and-forth emails, another manager at the golf course, Jeffry Raffelson, wrote to me saying "We don't believe we are responsible for the accident. Frankly, we can't figure out exactly what the people did who were driving the cart." To make matters worse, the driver of the golf cart submitted fake car insurance. Either way, their refusal to take responsibility for their equipment indicates poor, irresponsible, and deceptive management. That said, I certainly recommend golfing elsewhere, if you want to avoid liars and driver doofuses. read more

I've played this 27 hole course with 4 different people from out of town and they all say the same thing. "This is a city course in the middle of the city?". It's a pretty nice course at a decent price. It also helps that as you play you can gawk at people jogging around the park. It's kept relatively good shape as I've played a lot of badly kept city courses. This can be played medium length to very short. The greens could use some work and there are several holes where cars and the public are in play so you have to be either good or lucky that you don't hit them. There is a decent selection in the pro shop at not terrible pricing. The club house is ok and beer prices aren't in the bend you over range.... which is always a good thing. read more

I preface this review with the fact that I am a horrible, HORRIBLE golfer. So, I really don't get a chance to get on a lot of courses. With that being said, the golf courses at Forest Park are a treat. We had a group of six of us playing on Saturday and you could not have asked for a better day and place to play. We played the Hawthorne course first and then moved to the Redbud course for the second nine. The course was in great shape and you really get to see the park in all its glory. While the course was crowded, everyone that we met were really courteous. As we had two threesomes, we let a lot of folks play through and even we played through on a couple holes. It was very relaxed. As I mentioned earlier, I am not a good golfer so I cannot speak for everyone but I was really impressed with the course and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to have a good time on a nice layout in an historic setting. read more

I love a corporate golf outing! I also love a scramble! I really suck as a golfer so the idea of playing without paying combined with best ball makes for the perfect way for me to enjoy my annual round of golf. This year it happened to be at Forest Park. I was a little surprised by how closely situated the greens and tees were but escaped harm. The funniest thing I saw was a ball that rolled gently onto one of the tee boxes and came within about 2 inches of knocking a teammate's ball off the tee. The course seemed to be in decent condition but I did notice a lot of fractured golf balls scattered around the course. I don't know if this is due to mowing or if a lot of people who play there are crushing their shots. I have no idea how the pricing compares to other options but I can report that the staff took great care of us. The drink cart seemed to find us about every 2-3 holes which was perfect. The appetizers after we finished were good - especially the pot stickers. Added bonus...I only lost 5 balls in 18 holes this year! read more

This course has three 9-hole courses: Redbud, Hawthorn and Dogwood. Hawthorn is really flat, but the other 2 offer some hills. They try to make up for the short length by adding a ton of bunkers so bring your sand wedge! They are are pretty short (~3000 yards), but the course does a pretty good job of maintaining them especially as much play as they get. A round can be brutally slow when it's crowded, because the ease of the course tends to draw a lot of beginners. But there's not a prettier place to play in the fall when the leaves are changing! Course was in pretty good shape greens roll well ..... you would think when they host a tournament and it's 95 degrees or hotter out they would have plenty of water. Also don't be in a hurry if you play In a scramble here as it takes them about 2+ hours to calculate scores. read more

Golfing here is a neat way to see forest park. The 18 hole course peruses the whole west side, through areas of old Oaks and Hickory to bordering a natural prairie. The grounds are well kept and usually aren't crowded with other golfers. Events are regular though so make sure you call up before you head down there because depending on the day, it can be a madhouse or a serene, isolated experience. read more

I limit myself to only a few hobbies and getting out early on the weekend to golf is one of my favorites. My family and I moved to St. Louis two years ago and I immediately noticed how picturesque Norman K. Probstein Golf Course was as I drove north on Skinker Boulevard to our apartment. Since then, I have played about a dozen of the local courses in the St. Louis metro and Norman K. Probstein Golf Course remains one of my favorites. It consists of three nine hole courses (there is an additional nine hole course that is separate, but in the park called the Highlands). They are Dogwood, Redbud, and Hawthorn. Typically when you reserve a tee time for 18 holes, you will play a combination of Dogwood and Redbud; likewise, if you reserve 9 holes, you'll play Hawthorn. Even with this many combinations, the course can still be slow play during prime hours. With this is in mind, I try to play the first available tee time. This morning, I was the first one out at 5:54am and finished 18 by 8:30. On days when I start at 8:30, play is significantly slower, often averaging a five to fifteen minute wait at each hole. So, I recommend going early. The course is laid out beautifully for an older, urban course. Both Dogwood and Redbud are more challenging as they wind through hilly terrain. Hawthorn is long, straight and flat, so be prepared to drive hard. Prices will vary based on the weekend, but I usually book online and play 18 holes for less than $50. I will definitely play here again now that I live in St. Louis. If you enjoy golf and don't mind a wait, this course is well worth your time. read more

Great Golf course. This was my second time golfing and I was much better even though this was a much longer course. The staff was great and it was a beautiful day. I will say that the grounds were a little worn and needed a little better upkeep, but it was a great course regardless. I did feel a little rushed because they had so many people out behind us. My Father in law is the one that got me into golfing and he goes here often. I don't know allot about the sport but I have allot of fun when I go. Played "The Higlands" at Forest Park for the second time in 2 weeks last night. It really is a great little course with a reasonable price. Great driving/chipping range and putting green with a stunning "unlimited range balls for $44.95 per month" deal. Are you kidding me? I'm not a golf fanatic (anymore) but that seems like one helluva great deal. Otherwise it is like $12 for a large bucket (140 balls); $8 for medium (70) or $4 for small (35). For the monthly deal you must sign up for a minimum of 3 months, but so what! The course itself is nicely maintained with very little water and generous rough. As previously commented, there are fairways that are bounded by public streets so if you slice or hook you may do some damage...makes it even more fun. I have not played the back 9 yet, but the front 9 is fairly short, even from the yellow tees. Only one Par 5 on the front. Average hole length on the Par 4s seemed to be around 350 from the yellow. Clubhouse does have a really nice selection of clothing and logo-wear, balls, gloves, etc. My favorite thing about the course is that you can pretty much guarantee yourself a walk-on tee time on a weekday. During working hours you can go out as a single and never be bothered. After 4 p.m. it tends to get a little busy, but still no problem walking right on with a threesome and no delays. Cart + 9 holes = $25.50 weekday. I'm a fan! Easy access from Kingshighway or Hampton. read more

There are three different nine hole courses here, and all are enjoyable. The fact that this course is located so convenient to the city makes it one of my personal favorites. I live nearby and having an affordable and above average quality course so close keeps me coming back again and again. The overall scenery, both actual and womanly, is amazing in Forest Park, so you can enjoy that while you golf too. The manager does a great job with the events too. read more

Forest Park Golf Course use to be a go to golf course for me and my friends. This year I have the seen condition of the golf course digress immensely. What is even more frustrating is that their prices never changed with the worsening conditions and worsening pace of play. My recommendation is this, if you are a reputable golfer that is either out of town or new to the St. Louis area do not even waster your time with this golf course. There are numerous golf courses in the area that offer better value for a better managed golf course. I would tell you to either drive 20 minutes east to Illinois to play at Stonewolf or Far Oaks, the latter offers $35 hot tee times each day to play 18 holes and that includes a cart. Compared to the $55 round that you will pay at Forest Park. I would also recommend playing either Tapawingo or Annbriar. These golf courses will not disappoint you. Like I said earlier in the review, I used to love to play Forest Park, but now I can not let people play here without knowing of better options in the area. read more

Forest park golf(Norman K Probstein) has 3 nines all of which have multiple holes that are permanently cart path only. On my last 18 there were 6 holes roped off. I don't get why I am paying for a cart on a hot sunny day and then having to walk a third of the course. I inquired at pro shop and was told it's to keep the course pristine. It will really be pristeen when no one over 40 plays the course anymore. This is what is called total disregard for your customers enjoyment. Spread the word read more

Let me start off by saying this place needs a starter or marshals. It took two hours for us (2 golfers) to play 5 holes....This is a links style course. Fun layout for what me and my friend played. The only time I will go back is during the week when it's not busy. Update: A staff member got in contact with me and refunded both of our rounds. They got short handed with the everyone rushing out to enjoy the nice weather. Really appreciated the follow up. I will be returning. read more

I photographed a wedding reception there on July 2. It was a heat index of 115 degrees. As we were all coming in, the staff met us at the door with a smile and chatted with each and every person. Every person you came in contact with was incredibly helpful, the facilities were well lit and a perfect reception was created. I would highly recommend holding your event there! read more

Course was in wonderful shape for being as hot as it has been this summer. Love the 9th hole on Hawthrone, but it really sucks when you are walking, because you are tired, and have to walk all the way back around to the green from the tee box. There should be a walking bridge or something of that nature. All in all a good day, and a nice value at Twilight. read more

This course is usually a descent price online, and if you book ahead of time you can get some sort of discount for 18 holes of golf. Recently I am have been paying only $25 which isn't bad. Personally I had no idea this course existed before the summer started, the course is beautiful, especially for where it is located. For where this course is located, it can use a little bit more maintenance on the green, some rough patches but for $25 you can't really complain. They have multiple courses, the Hawthorn is flat, and Dogwood and Redbud let you experiment with the terrain. I am personally in love with this course and the hospitality, usually you assume the golf courses are restrictive but Forest Park Golf Course is very loose let you enjoy the game without stealing your money for expensive beers and waters. I have had no troubles with club, the people that work at the course are absolutely wonderful and kind. They come around and check on you every 4 to 5 holes if you need anything. I would recommend this course to anyone that comes to St. Louis that wants to see a great side of St. Louis. My family and friends will definitely be attending this course soon and often. read more
