Today's experience at this nail salon was so negative that it left me feeling hurt and confused. It's always been a bit awkward there, mainly because of the manager. But despite that, I've always been respectful and given a fair tip, sometimes even a good one. However, today I realized that I'm not welcome there. I understand that the neighborhood is predominantly white and older, but that doesn't justify the disrespectful behavior I've experienced. They always talk in their own language and giggle, which is unprofessional and disrespectful to a paying customer. I called the salon to ask about the gel manicure and pedicure, and I was clear about what I wanted. On the phone, the manager said $66, I even asked if they charged extra to remove the gel, she said no. I went to the salon in person, and she confirmed that it was $66 for gel and manicure. I stay for the service, and end up getting charged $86. She said she misunderstood and thought I meant regular. That's not even true, bc regular is like $44. This is dishonest business and disrespectful. And not sure if all because I look young or because I'm Hispanic. No worries, I'll never go there again nor recommend it. She wanted Nail extensions but when it was finished she did not like it. It was no problem. They re-did it to her great satisfaction. She is now a regular. My usual spot in Forest Hills was really packed and I needed to get my nails done for my graduation so I made a quick stop here. The service was quick. I didn't have to wait at all. I walked in asking for a French pedicure/manicure and instantly sat. The woman doing my nails was hesitant to remove my cuticles because of hurting me, and was opinionated with nail shape, and color choice. A talkative Salon for those not interested in that! I was taken off guard for sure and found myself having to remove my headphones outta respect. Regardless, I got the raw honey, brown sugar scrub Pedicure ($50 on the menu) and it was nice overall, a well done heel scrub and relaxing with the massage included. Overall, the service was friendly and good but I didn't like how after one day my nails already started chipping. Spent $200 there this evening getting their "spa" pedicure with gel color, and a powder manicure. Spa pedicure just included some kind of cream and a mediocre foot massage where the lady kept looking at the timer hoping it would go by quicker. The reason why I rated this place a one star is because they charge extra for everything. ALSO, they charged me tax on the tip I gave to both nail techs. However, I must say this has got to be the worst gel manicure I've gotten in my lifetime (and I've been getting my nails done for over 10+ years). I was dumb enough to get my chin waxed after and she ended up waxing my entire lower face - I'm prone to heavy breakouts and there's a reason I don't do everything. Really terrible service. I've been going to this nail salon for years. They're currently closed for 4 weeks (Jan 2022) for remodeling, so I'm looking for a temporary substitute. The manicurists are uniformly very good at what they do. I get regular manis and pedis. I recognize some of the regular customers. I have friends that go here. It's a vital part of the neighborhood for me. I do recommend calling ahead for an appt, esp during COVID. Also, pay cash if you can because they pass along the service fee if you use a credit card. I regrettably write this review as I have been a patron at this nail salon for a couple of years now. The staff there are usually very pleasant--Anya, Cindy and Olga are the BEST!!!!. However, there is another young lady there who is very unprofessional and distasteful. So much so, that I am contemplating whether or not to return to this salon. First off, she tried to bully me into giving her a tip when she saw that I was paying with a CC (credit card) which I thought that was a turn off, then without giving me a chance she proceeded to insist that I tip another person with whom my services were split. I said nothing on the issue even though i found it unprofessional and a turn off. As I sat in the salon, eight months pregnant if I may add, waiting on my ride, at 15 minutes to closing time she approached me and told me I had to leave. She was attempting to put me out of the store prior to closing time, pregnant to stand in the cold ( 30 below). I thought this was the most unprofessional experience that I have had in Forest Nails. I tried to reach them the following day but could not reach a person in charge. I will be following up though. read more

I had already come to this place some time ago and I was with an Ecuadorian lady who seemed a little discouraged with her work because she was surrounded by many ladies who did not share her language everything was great and they charge me 38. I arrived speaking Spanish so they sat me down with her and she removed my semi-permanent hair and put a new one which was perfect. Today I went to get exactly the same process for which they wanted to charge me 50 dollars so I told them that I accept the regular one and while they removed the polish they old lady told me that for 10 dollars more the semi permanent is better and lasts longer. I answered that I can not pay it because it was the money for my lunch. At the end they were going to charge me 35. From 50 they went to 35, followed by this the lady starts to file my nails exaggeratedly hard and she passes me many times the file, my nails are already red and they burn and feel weak and she notice that because instead of continue file my nails she starts to cutting it. I started to tell her to stop filing it because my hand was burning and I cry out of despair because I don't know what to do. Another lady arrives and starts to tell me that it is totally normal and that happens all the time. Is it normal for all the clients to have their nails burn when they have their semi-permanent nails removed? I don't think so. She tells me it's not a big deal and to stop crying that it's no big deal. That is the normal process. So the thing here is that since Im going to pay them 35 instead of 50 they started to destroy my nails. They put a nail "strengthener" on my nails and send me straight to the air. Why do they send me straight to the air? BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT MY NAILS WOULD BURN AND BURN. I didn't know I had to pay $50 for a good service or else they would remove my nails and burn them. I will talk to a lawyer and the police so they can check licenses and not do this to any more people. I remember the look on the ladies faces and I swear to God my case will not be left up in the air. read more

We have a rule in the office - you can only speak a language other than English if your manager and colleagues understand and no clients are around; otherwise, you speak English. The unwritten rule is - you can speak a language other than English to your colleague, but you'd better be sure a client cannot understand you. I moved into the area several years ago and was trekking back to Long Island every other weekend to go to a nail salon that I absolutely loved. I'm very picky about salons, so when I find a good one, I stay. The trek was becoming fairly difficult, so I asked a local I had come to know whether she had any recommendations. Well, she said she's just as picky as me and that I should try Forest Nails because they do a good job, and in particular, ask for Cindy. At first visit, the salon seemed ok. The owner/manager seemed nice enough, the place clean enough, and the equipment and supplies seem ok - nowhere near like my place out on Long Island, but beggars can't be choosers. I visited a handful of times and came to appreciate the fact that I could always call and get a same-day appointment, and the prices seemed cheap to me. I'm totally ok paying more money for better quality, but it seems to be slim pickings in the local area. Since I was just getting gel manicures, I wasn't picky about who did my nails. If Cindy was available, great, if not, almost anyone (except an older lady who seemed to fall asleep doing my nails) worked just fine. They weren't particularly smiley or friendly, but that didn't bother me because I'm not a chatty Cathy; I just want to be in and out under an hour. On one occasion though, I had Cindy and wanted a french gel manicure. I wanted to make sure the white line was thicker to my liking and evenly curved. She drew a white line on one finger and showed me, and I asked her if she could make it thicker. So she did a few more fingers, I looked at them, and asked her if she could make the line thicker again. Then, one of her colleagues came up next to her and asked how it was going, and she muttered in Mandarin that I was a pain. They were very unprofessional and racists. Asked my friend and I if we were sisters, when we responded no the lady said to her other customer, all Asians look alike. Then proceded to ask if we were from Russia, Korea, Thailand. Which is very interesting considering she's Asian herself. Another employee referred to my friend as girl when addressing her. The place is also very unsanitary. I watched my manicurist place instruments in an unused sterile bag in the back and brought it to the front and pretended she took them out of the sterilizer. I told her that I watched her do that. She claimed that when the place is too busy they just put the instruments in the sterilizer without the bag. I looked at the cuticle cutter and there were remnants of the last person's cuticles. I told her it was dirty and she looks puzzled. I told her I don't want to continue anymore and she responded don't worry I will get you a new one. Well if you had new ones why didn't you bring it out in the first place!!! I used to exclusively get my nails done in Manhattan because I really did not like the local nail salons....they were either dirty, or rundown, the manicures would chip in a day's time. Just not what I was looking for. For me, getting a mani pedi is a spa day. I want to chill out, read some good magazines, and get pampered. Forest Nails is the holy grail, providing all this, and a clean, friendly environment. All of the ladies who work there do a great job. My pedis last for 2 weeks without gel, and my manis for a solid week. And I do a lot of typing and damage to my fingernails! They are all super nice and welcoming. Especially Esther and Olga. And the owner, Sara, is always in the best mood and recognizes frequent guests. I really really like their spa pedicure selection too. The brown sugar scrub is so amazingly exfoliating, and their orange peel callus remover is great too for when I get stubborn runner's calluses. After a couple of years of going to this nail salon, I will no longer be going here nor do I recommend this place anymore. The quality of my last 2-3 manicures have been terrible. With the gel polish, there were bubbles and now with the dip powder/SNS nails, there are so many scratches! I went back to get it fixed within a week of just getting them done and they only added a clear top coat on top of the terrible manicure. It seems like they are just using bad products.
