Just attended a funeral there for my husband's grandma. The staff are really nice and professional. When we go there, everything was set up. The chapel is quiet and feels tranquil. The staff gave my 3 year old a bear. That part was pretty funny... he didn't want one at first and after the mass.. another staff approached and tried to give him a bear. At the burial sight, a canopy and chairs were set up. After the farewell, they closed up the burial site, added the grass back on and moved the flowers. The whole process was seamless Apparently, grandma already had her burial plan all set up so the funeral home followed it to the dot. read more

I recently took my mother to see her parents (my grandparents) who are buried here. This place puts me in a somber mood as it reminds me of the last few years, and in some ways how fast my grandparents left this world, one right after another. It is very hard to rate any resting place when you are gone, and coming here there is always a silence that is within me. This cemetary is very accesible, and where my loved one's lay has a beautiful view of the North, overlooking the water, and the mountains. My grandparents, including my grand-uncle's and grand-aunt's all seem to have discussed their afterlife when they were among the living, and all have plots if not right next to them.. close together like a small town when life was more simple. When I come here paying my respects with my mother, I remember those times of simplicity, going to visit them at their home, and always feeling loved while they always tried to feed you, and give you some form of money as a gratitude for coming to visit them, all in pictures in my head of a time long gone. On this day, my mother decided to bring flowers to her parents, and just staying their, gazing upon their plaques, makes me wonder what is going through her mind as this only happened less than 3 years ago... it was all so sudden, I can still remember it just like it happened. The grounds here are very well kept, even the individual plots, all are well maintained. All the roadways leading into, and around this cemetary are smoothly paved... and if you just sit there.. wherever one of your family members is laid to rest, you feel at peace. When we had these two funerals, the staff on these grounds had everything prepared for their burial, including a tent with chairs as one of the funerals, the weather had a few showers mixed in. The effect on people when they come to places like this is different, for me it's always opening something in my heart, and my mind on who these people were to me, and it continues on.. even toward the afterlife. Even while writing this... there is a sense of sadness... and in some ways.. a sense of happiness that at least these two are together in heaven. We sometimes, due to everyone's busy schedule in life, do not come that often, and even in life, forget about the afterlife... we always think that everyone will be there forever. I didn't take that opportunity to visit as much, I wish I did... and a blink of an eye... they are gone. There is always a time of reflection, and I hope my grandparents realize that I always wanted to see them more. They have taught me many things.. and everytime I think of them.. and I see them (here), I reflect, and sometimes you just feel that smile come down from the sun... reflecting on their graves. This is pretty up kept and clean. Well I came here to see my grandparents and great grandparents. Its that time of year, where we have to go and pay respect. So came here and I have to say every year when I come here I have to spend sometime looking for them. Its not easy to find the grave markers. Especially when my last name is very very common. There is always someone coming by to remove to old flowers. Like I said the place is pretty up kept. Its big and clean. Grass is cut very frequently. There have been a lot of changes in the past couple years. Trees were chopped down. A new fence has been put up etc. New building (small building). To the points we used to use certain things as markers to easily find my great grandparents. Like a tree. yes the tree was chopped down and laid a new neighbor for my great grandparents. I am sure my grandparents and great grandparents like it at Forest Lawn because there are less or no pollution, kind of away from the city and air is clean. But its close to Vancouver for its ancestors to visit. read more

I'd give the landscaping a 5 stars because I like the huge lazy carp lurking in the front pond and the turtles sunning themselves in the pond way out back. You might want to check the middle pond though; it's choked up with lotuses. I give a so-so rating because one of the staff members was trying to hustle me and my dad to get a plot for him. Lady, my mom died last year in a terrible way and I came to mourn my grandma here on this occasion. My soul was all mashed up with sour milk. PLEASE don't try to pimp out a plot to my dad when I'm thinking of loss and pain. It's really tacky. TACK-Y. read more

We recently dealt with the team here and the service was top notch. My father passed away and wanted cremation. We didn't want a service. When I first called, they told us if we wanted basics, it would be cheaper to go elsewhere. I appreciated their honesty and was impressed enough to go back to them to continue on. Planning consultaiton was great, well organized and professional. For a small fee we had a "visitation" in place of a service, and my father was prepared and present for it. The staff were exceptional. We had 20 people present and had the place to ourselves. We were able to use the outer lobby of comfy couches and seating areas, the visitation room (which was huge) and they catered it with simple sandwiches and drinks that we had chosen. All told, could not have been a better experience for dealing with my father's passing. read more

I hate to give this 5 stars, especially when it says Woohoo! As good as it gets! for a rating. But in retrospect, it kinda does get 5 stars, as this is the resting place of some of my relatives, friends, loved ones and my father. Melancholy is a word I want to describe for this place, but it isn't really. When I come here, it's to give thanks ,offer peace. A solid rememberance of love and to the life that I once knew physically and still embrace emotionally inside. A tear is nestled at the corner of my eye as I write this. Remembering the day I had to come to pick a plot and stone for the grave soon to follow. We were technically shopping for the last time for my father. The people who worked there were doing the best they could, knowing our fragile, emotional state. To sell us what we didn't want to acknowledge. I figured it had to be one of the toughest jobs to do. Not physically, but tough on the soul. In a sense, they're selling something nobody really wants, but needs. An unwanted burden that needs to be completed and they're left with the task of committing us to that final sale. We found him a nice plot, near the driveway, and the surrounding area would be developed later (which it is now). Like a piece of real estate that we were choosing for him in the burbs. And technically, yes, they were selling real estate on a much smaller humbler scale. At that time our imaginations of what it would look like a few years down the road. The Staffing here have certainly done well with the development of this area and the expansion. The grass is mowed, the tombstones and tablets are well kept. It's peacefull here, in a sad way. Especially when there is a slight breeze on a sunny day. ....So this is probably one of the most unlikely reviews anyone has done on Yelp. But it seemed fitting that on a day like today, I happened to pass by for a quick visit to say hi to Pop's (Father), a best friend, and other relatives. Even Jens father, which I always pay my respects to when I'm here, to be alone with thoughts of the past and yet to come. And yet, when I leave, the word melancholy sticks in my head. Except "my" perception of that word is different. It's contentment wrapped around melancholy. Does that make sense? And now that tear that has welled, falls from the corner of my eye, I breath. Their fees are two, three, or more times expensive than independent funeral homes who provide the same services and care for a LOT less. If Dignity doesn't maintain a five star rating, you can be sure there will be consequences. The estate expenses quickly add up and every bit saved is a wise thing to do even though there might be life insurance et al paid. Do your family and loved one's a favor, search in advance and find an independent funeral home to handle all your needs. Reconsider a plot because land in the city is terribly overvalued. read more

During the preparation before my father's service, the funeral director was very helpful with the process. We requested a Cantonese speaking director to assist with translation and they went beyond to provide the service. My father's service took place last week. The funeral home took extra care of us for both the visitation and the day of the service. Thirty warmly greeted us and support us during our difficult time. When it was time to interred my father's ashes into his plot, the Forest Lawn team greeted us and helped us a lot. They understand the business they are in. Even though the ground of Forest Lawn Memorial Park is not a flat surface, it is still a beautiful resting place. I have not actually gotten the chance to experience the funeral home as all the funeral services were held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel. But I have a few friends and family members who has been peacefully buried here. read more

They say the right things, and some of the staff are great. But i assume the company policy is to up sell everything possible. There were unexpected cost despite prepaying everything possible. Some were understandable, which we paid $400 for mandatory granite support slabs. But we had wanted a simple ceremony, with only four siblings attending. We just wanted to show up, pay our respects and leave. No parade or fanfare. Aside from the initial $3000 initial service costs, in the $5500 invoice was a $600 charge for the hurst and staff vehicle. This was to move the casket from storage and one wreath a couple hundred yards to the plot. We argued with the staff member and he said everybody pays this, and you can cancel the contract if you want! three days before the burial. There were three staff that were mostly standing during the ceremony and the hurst sat doing nothing after delivering the casket. What a waste of money. I call it gouging at a time when people are in mourning and most vulnerable. at a subsequent funeral, conversation was about how intense it was to deal with the company and it's charges. read more

My father was buried here last weekend. He had pre-planned his funeral many years ago through another locally owned funeral home, and purchased his plot here at the same time for himself and his brother. Although the funeral director we dealt with was great, when I called to ask if they had a room that we could rent after my dad's burial (to celebrate his life with some wine and food, which dad had wanted), I was told by someone else, somewhat snippily, that their rooms were only available if the funeral service itself had happened at Forest Lawn. I was unable to find another place for dad's friends and family to gather so we had to toast him in the pouring rain in the cemetery. So, not only have you lost the revenue that you would have generated from the price of a room rental, but you have also lost my business, since I will be pre-planning my own funeral very soon. It seems to me that if you're in the business of assisting families when their loved ones pass, you'd choose compassion over policy and happily give the deceased's loved ones a place to gather.
