Very small hole in the wall, barely any seating inside. Not meant for a chill hangout spot. More like.. order, eat quick and go. Or pick up and eat outside? But the smash burger was delicious and their fries were also so good!
WHEN: Tue @7pm Located in a small plaza, while there is free parking, it's also quite limited with it being share with other business establishments. However, since we came at night time where most of them were closed, we got parking right in front. This spot is more of a take-away place, with 6 counter seatings indoors, and maybe 3 chairs right out front. This tiny burger spot seems to be run by just one person, so it helps that you can self-order at their kiosk. He was very attentive juggling between cooking the made-to order items, and check in on the costumers in case they had questions. After placing my order at their one device, it was roughly a 15 minutes wait. Here's what we ordered: CHEESEBURGER - $9.90 High-quality beef patty smashed with grilled onions, serviced on a toasted Martin's potato bun and topped with pickles and their fry sauce. I really enjoyed this rich tasting burger. I think that fry sauce was a huge factor...but also that soft bun...and that flavorful beef patty. I really enjoyed this. FRIES - $5.25 Golden Thing-Cut Fries. Perfect. I mean this was made to order so they were warm, crispy and so dang good! It's how fries everywhere should be! I was hoping to come back during my trip in LA, but it's okay, it won't be the last time I visit.
Location matters I guess? Normally this is my FAV smash burger. Not this location. I can't comment on the service because I used the tablet. But my burger was drowning in sauce so that it was inedible. There was way too much salt. I only finished half. The fries were great.
This is a small establishment where you order from a screen. A few counter seats inside, but it's not the kind of place you'd want to eat in with friends or a date night, etc. it's more of a takeout situation. Just fyi! The food was fantastic if you're a fan of smash burgers . I had a single cheeseburger and a side of sweet potato fries (to make me feel like I was getting some veggie time). There was no one there when I ordered so my food came out pretty quickly. The guy working was friendly and I enjoyed every bite of my meal! Beverages are all overpriced, self-serve cans in a small fridge. Giving a 4 star only because of this. A can of soda is $4.95 which is too much...but I still bought one. Oh well. And I'd prefer to have a fountain beverage over a can. (Pro tip: a nice food option if you have to wait 2 hours for service at America's Tire because you ran over a nail the night before and woke up to a flat.)
For the Win is a local burger chain with a couple locations in the LA area specializing in smash burgers. I saw the shop in a feature on the local independent burger scene and thought I'd check it out. For the Win promises a good - quite good - burger at an elevated price that makes it a one-and-done visit. I swung by on a Sunday afternoon, and placed my order on one of two touchscreens. I was not greeted on entry nor asked if I had any questions, despite bringing in tow my quite charismatic infant who universally invites a warm reception. The young lady behind the counter seemed idle with few orders making the lack of a greeting especially jarring. There may have been a slight language barrier after talking briefly on receiving my order, but with two people working in such a small shop I found the touchscreens unnecessary and removed the personal touch I look for in independent spots like this. I ordered a double cheeseburger ($13.40) which was great. Soft beef, a slightly crispy edge (which could be more caramelized / crispy to push into 5/5 territory), gooey cheese, and an excellent potato roll, grilled onion, and sauce. Aside from maybe a touch more crisp at the edges the burger was perfect. I disliked how the menu had every topping (lettuce, tomatoes) at an extra charge. For a burger of this price these should be gratis. I understand a classic smash burger doesn't have this, but this struck me more as nickel and diming rather than customization. The inside is spartan, with some retro art on the walls. Supplies and cases of soft drinks are visible behind the counter, cheapening the façade. Everything is clean but doesn't leave the impression of a place I'd like to bring a family to. Take out recommended. Prices, as above, are elevated, although the food quality (just) justifies the price. Overall For the Win offers a great burger, mediocre location and service, at an elevated price. Is it a winner? Sure, but it's no champion. Food: 4.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Value: 4/5
Yummm so good! The burgers have a yummy peppery kick and theyre not too oily! The fries and sweet potato fries are so good and thin too. Def coming here again. There's free parking but the space is tight!!
I'm one who's always up for a good smash burger, but this For the Win location was a bit disappointing. The burger itself was great but for the price point, we could've easily dined at a better spot. Spent $100 for 3 single cheeseburgers, 2 double cheeseburgers (with no additional toppings), 4 fries and 1 order of brussel sprouts (which was my favorite out of the entire meal). Was charged 75 cents extra for ranch as well as a 4% kitchen service charge. There is no where to sit inside aside from a few seats against the wall. No restrooms to wash your hands. They also couldn't provide cups of ice water. Unfortunately I don't plan to come back because this one missed the mark and was more like "For the Loss".
Heard a lot of amazing things about this place and would love to give it 5 stars but I just couldn't do that with a pure heart. Meat was solid, just really thin. Yes, it's a smash burger, but it felt like meat chips in certain areas, although buns were top notch! Overall flavor was great, and when I asked for extra jalepenos, they delivered!! Service was quick and friendly as I got it to go. Ambiance is super cozy, but I wouldn't recommend eating inside. It's probably more comfy to take it to go and watch a movie while you eat. If I knew nothing about this place, I could give it a 5 star rating, but a bit overpriced, and a bit overrated. I'm still an in n out fan for a simple affordable burger. But their shakes are bomb!
This location is very small and has limited seating outside. Location clean and the worker are friendly. Service was outstanding. The double patty was perfectly portioned and highly satisfying. The flavor profile was commendable, it was undeniably delicious. Mainly because the Awesome cook cooked my burger to perfection.
I'm not sure if it was the location, the day, or the staff, but I can honestly say this was on the worse end of smash burgers I've had. The location is small with an accompanying small section of bar seating and some seating outside with uncomfortably small tables. The strip mall is busy, it's hard to find a spot at any time of the day and the residental street parking is quite busy as well. We got both the sweet potato and normal fries which were pretty decent, but it's ruined by their fry sauce. It could have been the batch but it's just perhaps too sweet with an unappetizing mouthfeel. It's served on the side though, so you can opt out. The burger patties were a decent size, but again was ruined by the fry sauce. The patties themselves had no sear from maillard reaction, there wasn't enough heat. It's also not like the cost is that cheap. I know the burger game in LA is tough and nobody is beating In-N-Out. But even a stone's throw away there are superior burgers for less. Out of respect I won't outright name them, but for that reason I don't feel compelled to give it another try either.
New to smashburgers, I've been eyeing For The Win for a while. The photos of the burgers looked so good. We went to the Glendale location on a recent Saturday to try it. We ordered 4 double cheeseburgers ($11.50 each) and 3 orders of fries ($3.75 each)... Not cheap but I realize this may be the going rate for burgers of this variety these days. Total after tip was $66 and change. When we ordered, there was a group of 4 waiting on their burger orders so we had to wait... and wait. We waited over 30 mins for our order to be finished. A little too long of a wait for my taste. Granted, only 1 person was working there at the time so it looked like he was taking orders as well as manning the grill... Another couple ordered after us so they had a long wait as well. The burger was really good. 2 smashed patties of 100% grass fed beef, cheddar cheese, grilled onions, pickles, fry sauce in between toasted Martin's potato buns. I liked the flavor, I'm normally not a pickle person but the ones in these burgers were mild and I scarfed it with em. The combination of all these ingredients made for a real savory and great tasting burger. My lady liked her double as well... The fries were good. Like an elevated fast food order of fries. We asked for extra fry sauce to dip the fries and it was tasty. It looks like there's some paprika in it. It has a little bit of a kick. Located in a non-descript mini mall along Brand Blvd just below Chevy Chase Dr. Plenty of parking in the shared lot. Real good burgers. Just too long of a wait for us. Some more staff, especially in the evenings might help remedy that. read more

I've been wanting to try this place since it made the L.A. Times's best restaurants guide. Luckily a location opened up near me in Glendale. Tucked away in a strip mall, it's almost easy to miss. The place is located almost in the corner. When you get inside, the space is tiny. There's an area with some barstool chairs to sit and also a few outside tables and chairs. The menu is pretty simple. They are known for burgers... and you can get a single, double or triple. I got the cheeeseburger ($8) with a side of fries ($3.75). The burger was actually very good. It's smash burger style and the quality of the meat was excellent. It's a burger that tastes light and doesn't weigh you down. I also didn't feel it was that greasy. You can tell it was fresh and made to order with good ingredients. The fries were perfectly crisped with some light salt. I'm giving this 5 stars because it's one of the best quality burgers I've had recently. My two foodie friends I was with enjoyed it as well. I recommend it! I'll be going back. read more
Having tried quite a few Smashburgers from all the vaunted lists of top ones in LA, I must say this is top 3 on the list so far. This is a spin-off of their original location in Hollywood and a welcome addition as it's easier to access. It's right in the middle of Brand Blvd. between all the car dealerships in a small strip mall. It's a bit hidden if you're not looking for it. There are a couple small tables outside to eat at as there aren't any inside. The menu is very simple and straightforward and gives you a couple more customization options than other smashburger places. The employees were very friendly and the service was quick for being fresh made. I elected for a double cheeseburger, as that's what I use as a comparison between brands. I opted to add bacon for some extra flavor and crisp and my choice was confirmed after the first bites. The burger patties were heartier than typical smashburger spots and were quite filling while providing an excellent balance of flavor with the cheese and bacon. I was impressed with the blend of all the flavors as it was consistent throughout to the last bite. I did not get fries as they looked pretty simple from what I saw from diners outside. This is absolutely somewhere you need to try if you want a good smashburger that is a bit heartier and will actually fill you up with a double/triple even if you're on the hungrier side. It was definitely worth the wait to try For the Win, and it may live up to its name in the world of burgers. read more
This is by far the best burger I've had in LA. I get the double cheeseburger, as is, every time and it is literally perfect every single time. They've mastered their smash burger patties and the ratios of onions, special sauce, cheese, & bun is just right. They also toast the buns which adds a nice touch. Their loaded animal style fries are like in-n-out if it was 10x better. Service is always great, it's a small place so you have to wait a few mins as they make everything fresh but it's always pretty quick. There are a few indoor seats available as well as outdoor tables. Seriously, try these. You won't regret it. read more

Well, I finally was able to get over here and see what the hype was about. Plus: Good seasoned patties, delicious soft bread, nice crust on meat. Cons: meat quality definitely needs improvement, I can tell it's lower quality than what I've eaten before. Loaded fries were soupy, soggy, and had too many onions. The little counter you eat at.. gives a nice view of unwashed walls splattered in ketchup. I don't see what the hype is about unfortunately, other than being plastered all over social media. Although it is a cool hole in the wall and I also love JCVD. read more

Overall, perfect spot if you're craving a perfect (cheese)burger and (loaded) fries! The Brussel sprouts were also perfect! Service: The staff was friendly and helpful. They asked if it was our first time (which it was) and they recommended ordering a double cheeseburger and fries. However, I went with the single cheeseburger and asked about the loaded fries. They were described as comparable to in-n-out animal style fries, so of course I got them. I also opted for the Brussel sprouts for health lol. Food: The patty was perfectly smashed with crusted edges - among the best out there! The cheese on both the burger and fries were perfectly melted. The fry sauce on both the burger and loaded fries paired perfectly. I'd say the loaded fries might even beat in-n-out animal style fries! The Brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy. They may have been even crispier than those that I've ordered in more upscale sit-down restaurants! Ambiance: Like I said, this is the perfect spot for perfect food. The seating options are fairly limited (i.e., about 6 bar stools along the walls inside, a few tables and chairs outside), although we didn't have trouble grabbing seats during lunch on a Sunday. You could also order food to-go. They have a parking lot, which makes things easy. read more

3.5 but rounding down to 3 because I wouldn't go again now that I tried it. I don't get the hype. The fries were exactly McDonald's fries, so I thought they were amazing. The burger however was not to my taste. It was so greasy and heavy. The bun was cold, I wish they toasted it or something. Too much dressing in the burger, its their take on the in n out secret sauce but its not working They don't have bathrooms which is very inconvenient. My friend had to walk across the street to the lexus dealership to use the restrooms. They seem understaffed. Same guy taking orders, clearing tables and disappearing to the kitchen. I wish them luck but I wont go back. read more
I'm mad it took me this long to try For the Win but their smash burger is something to sing praises about. I understand why it has gotten all of the accolades it's gotten. The burger with its perfectly crispy meat lace and fry sauce is one of the best in LA and their fries are perfectly thin, crispy and salty and I easily downed the entire tray. I added lettuce and tomato to my burger to add a bit of freshness and I'm glad I did even though it made it messy to eat with each bite, sending more and more of that burger out, living dangerously on the edge of that potato bun. It was a fantastic meal. Now I need to come back for the fried chicken sandwich. read more
Popped in on a random toasty afternoon and to my surprise, they had Indiana Jones playing on VHS here. The fries were thin and crispy and the service was pretty quick once you order. I also had a cheeseburger which was pretty good but the fries were perfect. read more
Service was great. I saw two guys working when I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon. The guy at the counter was really chill and nice and attentive. Very small spot with 6 chairs for bar seating. Funky decor and a box tv from back in the day. Food is tbd read more
There's something about smash burgers that make you go MMM on t bite. This place is among the best in the smash burger world. Menu is pretty simple and straight forward, burger, cheese burger, patty melt, chicken sandwich fries. Ordered the patty melt, double cheese burger and fries. Patty melt had a great crunch to compliment the smash burger. Double cheese burger had a perfect ratio of bun to meat and sauce. Everything is made to order and you need to eat it as soon as you get it. Definitely recommended for a burger in Glendale. read more

This place was on my smashburgers list. We came here on a moody Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of parking, because the other businesses were closed. Service was quick and friendly, prices start out low - $7 for a single burger, but things can add up quickly - $.50 for lettuce, $.50 for tomatoes, $1 for cheese, etc. I LOVED my single cheeseburger, hubby LOVED his double cheeseburger and everyone LOVED the Brussels sprouts. We are stuffed. It was $34 out the door with a tip, no drinks. Definitely will come here again. The inside is pretty spartan with a few tables outside adjacent to the parking lot. read more

The burgers here are simple. Beef,, grilled onions (smashed into the patty) , pickles, house sauce (like thousand island) on a potato bun.Simple is good. It's messy. It's delicious. Fries are a bit lackluster. Slightly stale, salted a bit unevenly, of the slimmer variety, but fair in quantity for the price. The tiny storefront has a couple of tables inside and out and a fair amount of free parking. Burger 8/10. Fries 6/10. read more
Got the double smash burger and thought it was delicious! Everything was done well and fries were crispy! I compare most burgers to the Win-Dow and think this is a great closer option even if it's double the price. Since we ate prior to coming here we were able to share the burger and they gladly offered to cut it in half for us. Indoor seating is almost non existent so we sat outside. The biggest con is people working in the surrounding areas can smoke near you while you eat but that's isn't this establishments fault. Parking in the lot seems like it can get busy but we were lucky enough to get a spot. read more

Honestly, I had high hopes for this place as I had heard positive things about it. I'm not an expert in cheeseburgers, but I know what I like. I decided to come by myself as I was on a side quest for the day. The service was average and it kinda went like this: walk up to the counter, I tell the cashier what I want and pay, I wait for 15 minutes (real time) and I receive my food. I'm not expecting chick fil a service but at least give me in n out quality. It was slightly busy but I was able to have a seat in the corner of the counter that they have inside. There about 15 seats in total including the tables outside. I had the double cheese smashed burger, fries, and a bottled coke. I try to get the exact same order at burger places so there are no outliers. Firstly, the burger. It came on what I think is a potato bun (which is the standard) and it was nice soft and squishy. Inside was the cheese, grilled onions, and pickles. I love the simplicity of the ingredients and it reminds dining on a budget (hold on to that thought). For me, that's what's comforting. The crispy edges of the meat that you look for in a smash burger were there but I feel that the patties were not as thin as I'd like it to be (personal preference). The fries were standard with slight salt added, I like to add ketchup on the side. I was able to get full off of that. For three items, it came out to $25 including the tip. I don't know about y'all but a quarter of $100 for a next to basic mid shelf meal is comical. A burger meal should be affordable. I understand inflation affects these things, but there are many places that still offer really good deals. I feel that For The Win's prices implies that they have a burger that sticks out against the rest when in reality it's just an average Jo (not sloppy). I give it a 6.1, probably won't come back unless I was really craving a burger and they were the only option. read more
