I ran out of food for my dogs, so I stopped here to pick up some small batch (which is a freeze dried raw). When I opened the bag, the patties were soft and slightly damp. I looked at the expiration and it expired 11 months ago in 9/21. I then looked at the bag of treats I purchased too and it expired in 4/22, 4 months ago. I called the store and they told me to bring it back. I was on a road trip and wasn't able to return back to their store. It would have taken too long to go back, so I called back and left a message. They never called me back. I love to support small businesses but feel that they should be more diligent about selling expired food. I didn't have any other food with me for my pups, so I fed them the food for one meal, one of them ended up with diarrhea. read more

This is a wonderful store. The owner and people who work with her in the store, really care about customers and their pets. I don't worry about what I purchase at For Paws because I know products are vetted and purchased with animal health and environmental consideration. I have always been happy with my purchases and they even took a package of food that my persnickety dog wouldn't eat, back. Grooming....that can happen here too! A phone call to this business to confirm they could meet my needs found a friendly person on the other end of the line. Knowing For Paws had my needs for cats and chickens, I stopped in later to grab my goods. It wasn't just the guy on the line earlier who was knowledgeable and nice; it was alll the staff! There is a private parking lot for this business and some others, so avoid the main drag, Bolinas, if it's a busy time. The lot is also handy for loading big items like I collected. Needless to say, I had help out to my car. It goes without saying, that I'll return for the next pet needs I've got. read more

We recently discovered this hidden gem in Fairfax and paid a second visit to sniff it out. Lovely people, nice things, healthful foods, great service, and easy parking in its own lot! Your dog or cat will be delighted if you stop by for delicious treats or foods or fun toys. We needed a bed for a crate and they special ordered it with next day delivery at a great price and showed our rescue pup lots of love on his first outing. read more

My dog likes to walk into bars. Seriously. You walk down the street with him and he'll pass by every store and restaurant... but the second you pass a bar, he's pulling you to go in there. If I'm with strangers, I can pull off the whole "Wow, he's never done anything like that before, there must be something in there that smells familiar!" Most people, however, know better. I personally think it's because the smell of liquor reminds him of all of my friends who come over drunk and give him tons of affection. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. So it's refreshing when he actually pulls me into non-bar establishments - particularly ones that are made for animals. This place is small, but they sell quality goods. My dog loves the Sea Mobility Venison Jerky treats (really, though, who wouldn't?) - and they carry them (for a pretty penny). The girl working here was really sweet and engaging - and helpful. My dog liked it so much he tried to pull me back in when we walked past it a second time. Fucking lush. read more

Our dog wandered from our house, was picked up by an out-of-towner, and Patty-the owner of For Paws-offered to keep the dog at her shop until she could find the owner. She coordinated having our dog scanned by The Marin Humane Society (our dog was not wearing her collar), and within 3 hours we got our dog back. She handled an emergency situation perfectly. I have to confess I only buy rare gifts for other people's pets here, but I love this store. The owner and all of the employees are so nice and helpful and they have eco-friedly options. But I am prompted to write this because of a recent incident. I had a little 5 year old visitor that I needed to entertain for a couple of hours on a rainy morning, so I took her to For Paws to visit the kittens. She was thrilled - until she accidentally stepped on one and was then devastated. I brought my 15 1/2 golden retriever into For Paws. Normally, he is very well behaved. I turned my head for a second and my dog Jake,had bit into a giant four pound tube of fancy dog food. I was thrilled Jake found something he liked, and obviously I bought it because the single bite was almost a quarter of the tube. He loves it and I am so grateful that it we now have a new brand of dog food that my dog loves, and that Marguerite was so nice about my naughty dog. The food is natural and the staff knows so much. I'm a single mama who came in with my 2-year old son and my stinky, dirty 75lbs Siberian Husky who was desperately in need of a bath. I had already resigned myself to the idea that we were ALL going to get a bath that morning, but it didn't happen. The owner of the store got us all set up, then very graciously took my son to meet the rescue kitties and bunnies while the big guy and I got his soap on. What a relief to not have to juggle/wrestle/negotiate with babies and dogs and gods and goddesses on high to get the job done! I was, and still am, so grateful for her help. Patty and Bill run the very best pet store in Marin, and while you are shopping you can visit with kittens and an occasional guinea pig- Patty fosters kittens through the Cat Angel Network. She usually has chickens in the back yard and chicks under a heat lamp in the store. It was Christmas Eve at 4.30 and my dog rolled in poop and smelled to high heaven! She is a timid rescue dog and is terrified of water and I didn't know how I would get her cleaned up in time for the festivities. I stopped at my local pet store not thinking it would still be open, but it was. Patti, the owner, was my Christmas Angel a true dog whisperer! She helped me get my dog into the bath, coaxed her with soothing words and took over the shampooing and bathing. The shop was busy all the while, everyone loves this store, and I wouldn't go anywhere else to get everything I need for my dog.
