I realized the sales person was a little bit busy when I picked them up & I waited as I was asked to do. First and Last time! Our first impression with this facility was one to remember for the worst reasons. To begin, my family and I had our eye exam done in a complete rush. For me, it felt like their attempt in getting my prescription was not to get an accurate one but rather, one that's close enough. Ultimately, getting my prescription completely wrong for my contact lenses. After waiting for a full 6 weeks to get my contact lenses which I couldn't see out of, it was frustrating to hear I'd have to wait another couple of weeks to receive the right ones. (Thankfully, it only took a week to be ready) However, the new contact lenses had to be they ordered based on my old prescription from the other office. Ultimately, instead of making the process of fixing their mistake a smooth one, it felt like I was the one having to guide them on how to fix it for them. Worst office I've experienced so far. Four eyes, four eyes, four eyes...*shake away bad childhood memory* I came here when I was younger and stopped going for a now forgotten reason. My subconscious must have forgiven them. I decided to stop by here (for the first time in years) to check out their eyeglasses and found them to be a good deal. The young salesman was knowledgeable and helpful. When I inquired about their 2 for $99 deal, he showed me the frames that qualified and helped narrowed down the choices according to my preferences. They have a huge selection of frames available, a lot more than I have seen at independent shops. He walked me through the different sections and helped me pick out a couple of pairs. Even though they're not in the VSP network, he was able to give me 20% off on the frames. He provided a variety of lens options and calculated total cost with different selections. I have been coming here for years, and recently I decided I wanted some new sunglasses. Before I ordered them I was charged $40 for an exam. Long story short.. this was an exam to measure me for contact lenses. Never said I wanted contacts nor did I ask for any measurements for contacts. A regular exam was covered by my insurance company! I called back the next day to complain and was credited the $40.00 When you go in for an exam specify whether or not you want one for contact lenses! You may be overcharged if you don't! read more

I'd like to rate this somewhere in the 2.5 stars range. I'm a little biased because a friend of mine works here, I can't complain about the service due to that. I will say that I've always associated this place as the good, and reasonable priced place for glasses. I don't take the vision plan at work so I use my medical insurance to see an eye doctor and take my prescriptions here. This was my first visit to this particular location. I've been a bit of a slacker and it's been like 4 years since I visited the eye doctor and got new glasses...my prescription went up a little bit and I wear bifocals - for the computer at work, and for reading...and once in a while driving. Most of the frames were exactly like my frames from four years ago in different colors. I wasn't impressed with the selection, I was expecting a little different, maybe trendy, I'm not sure but of course I kept going back to the coach frames and well they just seemed to look the best. The price of the frames was around $180 if I recall correctly. I also bought a groupon for $35 for $250 worth of progressive lenses. Long story short here - I paid $415 for my glasses out of my health flex spending plan...that was with the groupon so we're talking almost $700 for glasses I don't need to wear 24/7. Yes, I know they're bifocals but...Wow. I recall paying in the $300 range four years ago and I know prices have gone up but no way was I expecting this much. I'm not so sure if I'll be returning to For Eyes - they don't exactly meet MY needs. read more

This store is awesome! While out at the bar recently I got a little excited and bent my glasses at the nose piece. To say the least my glasses were a bit cattywampus. When I arrived to the store, I was greeted by Lori and Nicole with a friendly hello, how may we help you. I showed my glasses to Nicole and she said, I can fix those. I was so relieved at that point. I had my eyes checked I needed glasses. I have insurance. Girl charged me 377$. She never told me options. Seamed high as the frames and dr were covered. Called the next day. Should have been charged 200$. I paid by check. It's been two weeks and my refund wasn't even mailed yet. Like the glasses, but customer service isn't very good. My mother and I went to find her a new set of frames for bifocals. The staff barely acknowledged we were there even though we needed help figuring out which frames were large enough. My mom then simply asked if there were other colors besides what was displayed. We were answered by possibly the rudest woman I have encountered in a while. Are these guys for real? The selection is terrible, the frames are cheap and the sales are all bait and switch tactics. 2 for $99 until you want something extra, like a thinner lens, and the price shoots up by like $200!!!!!!! When my mom broke her glasses they made her pay a copay to get them replaced UNDER THE WARRANTY(!!!!!!). The glasses I got there in August of this year already broke, and because I didn't buy the "protection" they wouldn't help me. The staff is so pushy- I overheard one of the women who works there say she got 'screwed on her commission check', so that explains why they argue with you til you just give in. They didn't even put the right name on my order! Come on. Several staff members took SEVERAL cigarette breaks during the 2+ hours I was there to find and order glasses. The one who helped me put some kind of machine to my face to measure my eyes or something and her breath stank so badly of cigarettes that I almost threw up. You're better off going to a private Dr's office- I found one near this place and I love my glasses. I payed a little more but its worth it to work with a staff that makes enough money to care and knows something about their business. read more

I will spare you all from the details of my experince, but I will note, I had been doing business with them for about 15 years... YES 15 years... and it was good for a long time... I have been to this location before for myself. I'm fairly new to the area and my insurance is accepted here so I gave it a chance. Got my contacts last year and I also have children who need glasses. Took my daughter yesterday for an eye exam and order new glasses for her. Not happy at all with the lady who helped us. She didn't pay attention to our insurance and automatically gave us the promotion. She got an attitude when I asked her if the cost included the insurance and said "what insurance?"....then she seemed so sure that the price is cheaper with the promotion and not my insurance. I really liked this provider until I was given the wrong prescription for contacts. I came back in for a recheck and given a new prescription. No problem. They said they would exchange my old contacts no charge. When I brought the old ones back they said they would not exchange them for the correct prescription because they were no longer in unopened boxes. I was prescribed the wrong prescription. If an MD prescribes you the wrong medicine you would expect it to be corrected no questions asked. Why would expectations be different for an optometrist? The entire staff is so wonderful. My son's glasses broke and he was leaving for a sleep away camp in four days. They rushed his glasses so he would have them on time. Dr. Jani is amazing. My son is 11 and has eye problems, she found a cataract on his eye. The staff is always trying to help you get the best deals and are extremely helpful. These are just a few examples. I brought in my glasses that I bought there previously & asked for a repair so I could use them. Older lady said they were fine & did not attempt to look them over. Let me start by saying I've been going to this location for over a decade. Two weeks ago, I came in and purchased a set of new, black, Perry Ellis frames. They came in after a week... and were completely different frames than what I ordered. I obviously complained to the manager, went back to the store and picked the ones I wanted off of the shelf. The manager apologized and told me she'd put in a rush order for the correct ones (she said the SKU numbers got switched). As I was leaving that day, she even confirmed with me the color of the frames I wanted... I emphasized to her I wanted what I showed her on the shelf: black. Another week goes by (not a rush order at all) and I get my glasses. They are wrong. They are the correct frame, but dark brown/tortoiseshell color. At this point I'm furious. This isn't fast food where they can fix it within 5 minutes. I went back in last night to figure out what the issue was. Lo and behold, the assistant manager (who was doing her best to make it obvious she didn't care about my problem and like I was making this up) claimed they never even had those frames in black. I even took a PICTURE of myself wearing them in black the first time I went in. I could prove they did exist in black, and had a photo. She still went on claiming they never had them in black and "didn't know where I got those from". I was shocked. They showed me a pair on the shelf that looked a lot like the ones I ordered and pointed out that those weren't an option in black, but even so, they weren't the ones I originally asked for. It is obvious to me at this point that they are lying to get themselves out of trouble. I'm extremely picky about glasses, and I would have definitely noticed that the glasses I wanted were tortoiseshell versus black. I'm not stupid nor crazy. Plus, I have the god-damn picture to prove it. I picked out another pair of glasses to replace these with, because according to them, the ones I wanted (and have a photo of) never existed, so they would put in another "rush order" for the replacements. No offer of a discount or reimbursement for having to deal with this absolute bs. In fact, the ones I ended up getting were $5 cheaper, and the assistant manager was rolling her eyes and sighing when I asked her for a refund for the difference. She made it seem like I was inconveniencing her so much by asking for money that I was owed. I can't believe how unprofessional and disrespectful she was. I will say that the associate who helped me find another pair was very polite and apologized profusely. I really wouldn't be ranting like this unless someone was way out of line. I definitely won't be returning to this store again for frames. They pull bait-and-switches, and then tell you what you wanted never existed in the first place. Update: I spoke with someone at the corporate office who I was able to explain my story to. He was very understanding and courteous, and said he said he would look into the situation. The next day, I received a call from the manager saying I would be given a refund for the amount of the frames I paid. I really appreciate this. I really think they should have offered some form of compensation before I had to get involved with their corporate office. There is a difference between screwing up someone's order, then taking care of it and screwing up an order and trying to make the customer feel like it was their own fault. read more

I had been to this store a few times in the past 5 years to have eye exams and order contacts. They had been helpful and moderately priced, so when my glasses broke recently I set up an appointment to find new glasses. Since I do not wear my glasses much I was looking for a very inexpensive pair. The sign on the door "2 pairs for $99" really sounded perfect for me. When I inquired about it, I was told "Oh, since you have insurance you can't have that deal." Huh? That seemed odd. So I picked out 2 frames I liked and brought them to the lady helping me. She started tapping into her computer, saying "you'll want the thinest lenses, and you'll want scratch resistance, and you'll want this that and the other thing." Then she says, "ok, the buy one - get one half off sale will cost less for you than using your insurance so that's what we'll do. It's $274". She NEVER gave me choices or cost comparisons on the lenses, never gave me the option of scratch resistant or not, and in the end ended up NOT USING MY INSURANCE. Therefore I could have qualified for the 2 for $99 special!! She ran my credit card and gave me a slip for $475!! The $274 was just for one pair, she said. There were other charges on the bill for warranties also, which were never explained to me. I had my last pair of glasses for 10 years before they broke. Believe me, I wear my glasses so infrequently that there is no way I need a special warranty for them. My guess is that the workers here are on commission and they have been taught how to upsell everything without giving the customers full information on what options are available at which prices. DO NOT GO HERE without demanding a full explanation of all the options available and how much they cost. And DON'T TELL THEM YOU HAVE INSURANCE UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE APPOINTMENT. read more

Terrible products and the place is falling apart. We took my mother in to get some glasses only to have them take 3 weeks to get them. We went in for the two for $99 sale but were told she can't get that with her prescription. So why advertise it then? Less than a month later the glasses were all loose, so we had to take her back in to get them fixed. It lasted all of two weeks. It's very hard to get my mother there and back again, and we were offered nothing for our troubles. I won't go back there again. read more

I went to this provider 6mths ago to purchase glasses for my son. he has down syndrome and prior to my visit, he had already gone through 3 prescription pair of glasses in a year...needless to say he's very rough on them. This is particularly what led me to For Eyes, they have flexible toddler frames and no one at the time offered small enough sports goggles. i spent 300.00+ on two identical pair because my son is near blind without lenses so i could ensure he had one while the other gets fixed. And! i insisted on ensuring i had a warranty and questioned how long that warranty was good for because another provider had hosed me. i told her this entire story during our visit....today, i walk in with broken glasses and I'm told the clerk didnt include a warranty on either pair and the girl doesn't work there so they cant do anything but charge me another 240.00+ for another set. Went here for an exam and ended up purchasing two pairs of glasses. Damaged one pair (was in my shirt pocket and accidentally laid down on the couch, forgetting they were in my shirt, and bending the metal frame to where the bottom of the frame was separated away from the bottom of the lens about 1/8".) I took them back to Four Eyes asking if they could fix them, and was told no, they wouldn't touch them, because rebending the frame could cause it to break and they weren't willing to assume the liability. (Although I told them I was willing to take that chance) I was invited to order a new replacement pair, at my expense, which of course I declined to do. I went to a local area optometrist in private practice who was willing and able to look at the frame and ended up repairing the glasses for me. She definitely earned my future business. read more

Eye exam was quick. The lady at the exam check in was awesome! The optical staff is mediocre at best. Was being helped by one who left to help someone else & never came back after we didn't take her recommendation for frames. The other lady recommended a pair of out of season frames on clearance after we clearly stated we were interested in a pair of Prada frames. Their designer frame selection is extremely limited. Very rude people we were being helped and left to decide on glasses for a little girl and the store was empty. Meanwhile the store became very crowded. When we decided on a pair of glasses and informed the sails lady who was helping us she said we had to sign in and wait to be called???? We were already being helped!!! Also I had a pair of my wife's glasses (which we purchased their) that had a loose temple that needed to be tightened. The sales lady said they could not be fixed and we would have to buy new glasses (I wish I took her name). So we left and went to the store on Roosevelt Rd in Lombard. What a difference they were very pleasant and helpful. We purchased the glasses and they fixed my wife's glasses without a problem. Don't go to the four eyes on Army Trail unless you want a very bad experience!! read more

I have been a For Eyes customer for about ten years. After discovering I had received a defective pair of contacts, I went in to the Bloomingdale location to get a replacement. They directed me to the manufacturer. When I called the manufacturer, I was sent through several different prompts and talked to about 5 different people; the manufacturer did not resolve the issue. I called the office back and spoke to Melissa and JoAnne, the office manager and was told there was nothing they could do. I told them I purchased and paid for the contacts from them, not the manufacturer and they should be the ones to fix the problem. They did not and quite honestly JoAnne had a condescending attitude throughout the conversation. Today For Eyes lost a 10 year customer because they were unwilling to resolve a conflict created by their defective product. read more

this place is ok, but not great. Having said that - there are no "great" franchised optical places I've ever been to. The optometrist I saw was very good. I forget her name, but I liked her a lot. The staff at this place is "ok", certainly not good. They don't seem to care to much about anything and just want to get you ringed up at the register and get you out the door as soon as possible so they can just hang out. Like all other optical places they quote you a ridiculous outrageous price initially to see if you will "bite" and accept the terms. I of course did not. They wanted $358 for 1 pair of glasses. When I said "that's crazy" and said "no", we discussed some options and I ended up getting 2 pairs of the same glasses (frames, lenses) for $200, because that was a "promotion" they had going. If you don't do the "promotions" over there you will get screwed. Many other optical places do the same thing. So if you go to this place knowing the serving is "fair" at best, and that you have to ask for the "promotions" it's not so bad. read more

Staff was Helpful and the stars goes to them. However, Dr. Carlson has not earned any. He was clearly impatient with my 5 year old and rushed her. This was her first time visiting an eye doctor hoping that her experience would be a good one. I get it that it can go either way with kids especially at that age..they are either very responsive or not. Either way a great "bed-side manner", kindness and especially charisma is expected when dealing with children. Did not see any of that. I was dead wrong. I have gone to him for the last 3-4 years and thought he would be safe to bring my 5 year old to for a first time eye doctor appoint. As an adult, we go through the motions sometimes without expecting or noticing these things until our kids are the patients. He gave a horrible first time visit for my 5 year old. Be sure that your child is very prompt in his/her answers otherwise you will be rushed out and told to come back when your child can cooperate. Not a kid friendly doctor at all. This visit has left a bad taste in my mouth and my family will not be returning. I truly hope he was just having a bad day and he isn't this way with other children.
