Spicy gin cocktail. It was very good.
Nikki B.

If you're looking for cheap drinks, good service, and a fun crowd then Footsies is your place. This cozy dive bar sports an old school vibe with its leather booths and semi-nude paintings on the wall. I've driven by here numerous times but never stopped for a drink. My dear friend started spinning on Sunday, so it was the perfect excuse to finally check it out. Inside is dimly lit, like a good dive bar should be. There a juke box and dancefloor in the back with a small stage for live music and big screen for movies. There is also a back patio. Happy Hour is daily from 5 pm - 8 pm with $11 drink specials and $8 wells. The bartender was an absolute doll and she made me a Gin based specialty cocktail. I forgot the name, but it was Fire something. It was a bit Spicy with a nice kick. I loved it! The patrons at the bar were all friendly and very cool and made me realize that Footsies is a great neighborhood hangout. I'm not sure what it's like during the week but stop by on a Sunday for Outlaw Hour (5PM - 10 PM) and enjoy a cocktail and tunes by Goth Brooks. He spins a variety of Country, Rockabilly, & Punk. *Street parking

Looking in from the back patio.

It's been about 5 years since my last visit. Dropped in tonight after considering some of my other old haunts. Footsies is as I remember it pre- Pandemic: dark, low key, reasonable prices, classic dark mood lighting inside and out back in the patio. Those eye catching oil paintings of semi to nude sirens still adorn the walls. No TVs so it's not a fame say place to congregate. No wifi jukebox but classic rock tunes bellow out. Old fashioned booth seats and stools at the bar.Back patio is enclosed and decorated in all black paint, black naugahyde bench seats, hanging plants. It's chill more tonight....light crowd. Me loves the old west style swinging door panels just past the front door upon entering.

Delightful dive bar. Great music. Sometimes they have a guy playing heavy metal records, but not so loud you can't have a convo.

I am not dead yet, and thus, I have the right to party, even if my fun does not reach a Saturday…read morenight fever pitch! My friend Conrad, happily takes the role of designated driver (silent heroes on wheels) and thus I was afforded the opportunity to have drinks which usually lift the fun to a few wonderful degrees. And to be clear, I do not drink to black-out, or pass out, or pass the line of appropriate behavior. I just drink to have a bit more courage on social settings. Perhaps, the cowardly lion can take cue, and drink liquor, on days when his roar and mane are not feeling kingly. This bar sits on Sunset, a famous boulevard of Los Angeles and thus it invites a cast of characters that made the night spectacular. Let us start with the individual who left a 100 dollar bill on the pool table to mark his place in line. As the picture shows, some people place a business card to mark their place, while others take their bill and curl it slightly, while others just sit in the nearby couches and watch for their turn for cue and triangle. I wondered why this individual placed a 100 dollar bill? Was the person just out of smaller bills or was he trying to communicate the wealth he had in a subliminal way? Like, when a rich from a posh European city, takes her hand and sweeps her costly and highlighted hair to draw the curtain that reveals diamond earrings that cost more than tuition at Vassar? I am not sure why, but I think the person was trying to communicate wealth with quiet yet blaring actions. But what do I know of how the rich communicate excess in quiet ways. While I was waiting for my turn at the pool table, I went from the room with the pool table, and the dance floor, with the bar in between. It is important to note that the pool room also had a window bar. That is where I got my drinks, not in the more traditional bar between the dance floor and the pool table. And you all, the dance floor was modestly lit. Please do not imagine a dance floor replete with people, as if were in Mardi Gras. But the floor had enough people to make the bump and grind charged with the kind of electricity that only revelers in motion can produce. In some of the videos, I tried to capture the feeling I just described. My favorite moment of the night, was when the red disco spined with conviction and flare as a song of the princess of pop blared--- I am slave for U. That kind of moment, when the body moves with glee, when a performer you adore blasts in the waves of the room, and the disco ball hypnotizes, cannot be bought, only lived, which means, again, that I am not dead yet! The Short Stop, has a lot going on, and that includes pictures and signs! For example, there is a sign that reminds patrons, "crowded area, stay alert!" I saw a similar sign when I visited the Griffith Observatory. And I will make the same comment, as I made then, how can we be expected to stay alert when the place is crowded by design! And if pickpockets came to steal, how can I prevent them, when my focus is on the night and its free flowing fun flow? Signs like that are a sobering reminder, and in a place like this that signs, is a turn down, a cautionary tale, that brings my level of glee, a few notches down. But, I understand that their necessary, I know that people steal to survive or to buy expensive cars, with other reasons within and without these polar points. I also sign a picture of a police car next to a recent explosion--- the big blooming fire ball, was proof. It reminded me that LA has many wonderful attributes (like frappes and Rodeo Drive) but it also has a violent history. I guess, LA is a tapestry of events, that all together make LA a city of Angels and Demons, and of course humans. Regardless, I feel lucky to be part of its people because it means that I am par of its history. My dent in its existence might be small, but at least, I am a speck in the palace of LA. Eventually, I did get to play pool, and I lost the game, alongside my partner in crime Conrad. While we were waiting for our turn, we saw some folks having an ugly party contest. One of them had a sweater with a target on it. He also had a pocket with a ball. I had the courage to ask if I could play. Before he said yes, I rummaged the ball pocket for the ball that I could throw at his bullseye. He told me, in a joking way, that I should have waited for consent to touch his pocket. I apologized because he was right, then he gave me the ball, with no blame attached. then I threw it. I made it to the sweater but not to target. He did not make me buy him a drink. This bar is a good time you all, highly recommend it, it has a lit bit for any partier.

Staff asked her for "documentation" or "papers" for the dog, which is not permitted under ADA guidelines (staff are only allowed to ask two specific questions). I initially went to understand what staff were telling her so I could relay it clearly, and that's when I learned what they were requiring. When this was pointed out, the tone of the interaction changed and became confrontational. I spoke up during the exchange when one of the bouncers was being rude. At one point I expressed frustration, and shortly after that I was asked to leave. I had been drinking, but I was not acting aggressively. When I asked for a reason, I was told I was being "disrespectful," specifically after I told one staff member to "get your boy" when another was being extremely rude for no reason- it was unacceptable. During the process, a staff member recorded me on a personal phone. I began recording as well for my own documentation. I do have video of this interaction. I was refunded my $5 and told they were "being nice," while also being warned about trespassing. From my perspective, the situation escalated after I questioned how a service dog was being handled, rather than due to any meaningful behavioral issue.

It was so milky, creamy, delicious... just like me. After a couple more variety of beers, obviously it was time to feast on a classic, timeless all American gem- the hotdog. We ever so gently asked our beer connoisseur, "Excuse me, what comes in the hotdog?" Our mouths already salivating at the prospect of this delicacy. To which the fine gentleman responded "Mustard, mayo and Ketchup." Please remember this important detail, it's crucial to the story. We were feeling very bold as one does when you are glutes deep in a Hazy IPA and a second Stout so We said "Perfect. All three will do." Our eyes were beaming, our spirits were lifting, our bellies were grumbling with anticipation. After a brief three minutes, there she was. The gleaming glizzy. Doused in an intricate, interwoven condiment presentation. So immaculate, so beautiful. With such a moment it was only appropriate that we share the gleaming glizzy Lady and the Tramp style. Yes, sexy indeed. As we hold up both ends of the glizzy to our mouths, locking eyes we simultaneously take one big bite. And then... The most overpowering sensation dominates our mouths, our noses, our eyes even. In a state of shock, teetering on a state of confusion and then rage we jolted. WHAT IS IN THIS HOTDOG??? Because that was not just any plain yellow American mustard. It was a pulsating fire rampaging through our nasal cavities. It was like the world had stood still and we lost sense of gravity. This is not to be confused with a disbelief of happiness. It was a disbelief of deceit. Once we grabbed a hold of ourselves and a grip of reality we waved down the fine gentleman and said, "Is this horseradish???" To which he retorted, "No, everyone asks that. It's Spicy Dijon" Bewildered we looked at each other and knew we were thinking the same thing. A piece of us died that night. In that bar. Because that was Spicy Dijon mustard coursing through our blood, our veins, forever seared in our memories. We were lied to. Made to believe that this gleaming glizzy was normal. Beautiful and unsuspecting. Not even the coldest winter day on the snowy slopes compares to the journey we took with this hotdog. Anyway service 10/10, vibes and drinks spectacular. Will be coming back!

[Parking]: Metered parking wasn't super easy to find and I had to park two blocks away (near intersection of Yale St & W College St) from Chinatown Central Plaza. [Event]: General Lee's is best known for hosting weekday Hong Kong style Mahjong night (sponsored by Mahjong Underground) and please check the IG page for the exact date (e.g. February 2026 was every Wednesday and March 2026 is every Monday). No RSVP is required and our party just simply walked in at 8 PM sharp. Free admission, but 21+ only. [Pro tip]: Please come as early as the cocktail lounge can get pretty crowded within 15 minutes of opening time (8 PM). Otherwise Mahjong tables will be taken up pretty quickly. [Experience]: There were 7 beginner tables on the 2nd level and 9 advanced table on the 1st level. The lounge had DJ playing music so the lounge can get a bit loud. The beginner tables had two laminated pages on how to read Mahjong tiles and how to play Hong Kong style Mahjong. The players at the beginner tables were friendly and our table played open-hand, but it would be great if an actual instructor can teach us more advanced rules. Restroom (unisex) was quite clean. [Conclusion]: Expect packed crowd on Mahjong nights with friendly Mahjong players, but this is not exactly the best place to really learn how to play Mahjong. I see this lounge as more of a place to socialize with other strangers.
