Nice trails to jog or for walks and nice views. Plenty of trails to choose from or if you like fishing there are 4 ponds but fishing is only allowed in three. Park is not lonely so is safe. No need to travel far for beautiful views in Sonoma county.

Great park for some urban hiking. Don't know what's up with the locals though..... my wife and I said hello to two different people while we were walking around the lake- the both just stared at us. Really weird. If you are a local and reading this, let me know what the code word is please.

I'm not a big fan of Foothill Regional Park. It's a nice small park, with some nice trails. The issue is, it's too crowded for me. If you fall and snap a bone, it's great because someone will walk by to check on you every minute or so. Being a small park, if you do the outer loop, it's just about three mile hike. There are other trails within the perimeter where you can get in some extra length. There are two steep inclines, Alta Vista and an unmarked trail about 50 yards past that get your heart beating. The park is in good shape, even after some recent rains, the trails were relatively dry w/ minimal mud. The park is dog friendly, so if you want to bring your best friend along, they'll appreciate the exercise. If I want a bit little more of a challenge in a more serene setting (not dog friendly though), try Shiloh Ranch Regional Park a few miles away. Like I said, there are too many people for me at Foothill. I don't want to hear someone's conversation from a distance. It kind of takes away from being out in nature, trying to enjoy the scenery (dang I sound old).

There are so many different trails within this park. Some are easier and some more challenging. I appreciate the fact that there are so many options. It has so many beautiful views and considering that it survived a fire, it means a lot to the community. I would recommend it to anyone beginning their hiking journey. Great resource.

***~~~DOGS WELCOME~~~*** This one of my most favorite Sonoma County Regional Parks. There are so many trails that snake their way through this beautiful park. You can choose your destiny if you'd like something a little easier. Or of you feel like a champ and want a challenge, climb the Alta Vista trail. There are 3 man made lakes. If you're feeling extra ambitious, you can easily stroll around all 3 flawlessly. The regional park charge is $7.00 but everyone seems to park on the street and walk in. Not supporting the regional park system. This has been a great spot to bring the dogs. *** Watch for ticks ***

Each visit feels a little different depending on the season. It is especially beautiful after it rains. On Creekside Trail you can hear the water flowing, which makes the hike incredibly peaceful. There is also a scenic spot at the top that is well worth the climb and offers a great place to pause and take it all in. I would consider this a moderate hike due to the incline. The descent can be challenging in some areas because it is steep and rocky, so I highly suggest wearing proper hiking shoes. The trails offer a variety of terrain and along the way you can spot many different species of mushrooms, which adds to the experience if you enjoy nature observation. The park is easy to access, not overly crowded, and it closes at sunset. Overall it is one of my favorite places to hike in the area and a great option if you want a scenic, peaceful hike with a bit of a challenge. Highly recommend.

If you have a regional parks pass, please bring this with you and you can park for free. Some people that don't want to pay park outside the park and walk in. There is a picnic area at the entrance and picnic tables and benches throughout the park. There are clean restrooms at the entrance of the park. Pro tip: Bring water with you! You can choose to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the views. In the winter months it gets somewhat muddy so wear hiking shoes and preferebly ones that are waterproof. There are lots of trails to choose from. Dogs are not allowed. Horses and ebikes are allowed.

Thinking of tubing on a weekend? Come early. By 10am the lot is very likely to be full. It's $12…read moreper car. We would take 1 car with all the floaties and air pumps and park around 9am. On our recent trip we inflated 14 floaties using a combination of 4 different air pumps and it took us an hour. Last year we were not as prepared and needed to used the free public pumps. Never again. It took forever. It took us 4.5 hours to get to the end at Sunset Beach and that was with a 30 minutes lunch break. It's always fun. We've been making it an annual group thing and each time it gets better and better when we are more prepared.

The $5.00 round trip fee (per person) includes free parking, drop off at Steelhead Beach, and pick up at Sunset Beach, all in a comfy air-conditioned vehicle. When you arrive at Steelhead Beach, be prepared to stand in a long line to pump up your tubes at the pump stations. Alternatively, we brought with us an inflatable kayak pump for our kayak, and a "Compressed Air Duster" (Amazon: https://a.co/d/bMSSmrV) which blew up 4 huge tubes with headrests in under 10 minutes! We put that in our dry bag, and were happy to have the kayak pump to deflate everything quickly at the end of our trip. Hot Tip: Once you are ready to get in the water, follow the path on the far south of the picnic area which takes you slightly upstream. You will find a perfect spot to plop in your tube and relax while the gentle current starts you on your fun journey!
