I've been living in Windsor for about three years and. Finally made it to this beautiful place. The trails lead to such beautiful views. We decided to hike up the more intense trail and it was so worth it. There were quite a few others hiking as well and most people seem to respect it. Picking up their trash and making sure to leave it as it was before setting up their picnic spot. Net time I'm going to make sure to bring my on picnic. This time I only brought snacks and water to sustain me while hiking. I'm so blessed to live in an area that provides this wonderful piece of Mother Nature. read more

I liked it . We did the easy hike and hit all three lakes. Park outside on the street . It's easier and plenty of parking. Otherwise you have to pay. It was a very nice Saturday afternoon. Foothill Regional Park has nearly 7 miles of trails so there are plenty of different trails that you can take. It's great for those at different hiking levels. There is a common loop where it overlooks the town of Windsor and it has beautiful views. There are three different lakes that you can hike to. Dogs are allowed on leash. There is a fee for parking or free if you have the Sonoma Parks Pass. There is free parking on the street outside the parking lot as well. There are bathrooms near the parking lot, which is nice as well. This place can get a little crowded at times, so I would recommend hiking earlier in the day when there is fewer people out on the trails. read more

Celebrating Earth Month with a recent hike at Foothill Regional Park...in the foothills of the Mayacama Mountains! Think rolling hills, ridge top views, ponds, flowers. We found the trails to be clean and well maintained. This is a beautiful park that we're lucky to have nearby in Windsor, east of 101. Per the website, "Foothill Regional Park offers 6.8 miles of trails that vary from the challenging climb up Alta Vista Trail to the easy stroll along Three Lakes Trail." There are a few hiker-only trails and a few trails also open to cyclists and equestrians (note: always defer to an equestrian/horse). Dogs ARE allowed on leash - just be sure to clean up after your fur friends! Parking is available in a lot for $7. The lot was full but we found free parking on the nearby streets. We enjoyed our 4-ish mile, not too strenuous hike and hope to return soon! read more

Great place for an exercise hike or trail run. The large loop around outside is a good workout and trails around lakes are beautiful. Lots of birds. Many people there on trails but doesn't feel crowded. Inner hikes through center of park have less people. read more

Nice trails to jog or for walks and nice views. Plenty of trails to choose from or if you like fishing there are 4 ponds but fishing is only allowed in three. Park is not lonely so is safe. No need to travel far for beautiful views in Sonoma county. read more

Beautiful Regional Park with a bathroom at the entrance parking area. Dog friendly and lots of trails to choose from with a small tranquil loop around the first pond you come to. Very tranquil with aquatic birds and lots of other birds plus benches scattered around. Friendly hikers and very peaceful place to enjoy nature, read a book or a picnic. read more

I'm not a big fan of Foothill Regional Park. It's a nice small park, with some nice trails. The issue is, it's too crowded for me. If you fall and snap a bone, it's great because someone will walk by to check on you every minute or so. Being a small park, if you do the outer loop, it's just about three mile hike. There are other trails within the perimeter where you can get in some extra length. There are two steep inclines, Alta Vista and an unmarked trail about 50 yards past that get your heart beating. The park is in good shape, even after some recent rains, the trails were relatively dry w/ minimal mud. The park is dog friendly, so if you want to bring your best friend along, they'll appreciate the exercise. If I want a bit little more of a challenge in a more serene setting (not dog friendly though), try Shiloh Ranch Regional Park a few miles away. Like I said, there are too many people for me at Foothill. I don't want to hear someone's conversation from a distance. It kind of takes away from being out in nature, trying to enjoy the scenery (dang I sound old). read more

There are so many different trails within this park. Some are easier and some more challenging. I appreciate the fact that there are so many options. This is a good place to go to for variety. There are a few different trails, depending on how hard you feel like working out. There is parking available on the side of the road and a few parking spots available inside the gates. They have accesible trails for those with limited mobility. They have single stall bathrooms available at the entrance. read more

It's a great spot for a quick hike, the trail around whole park was just over three miles but definitely a good workout with an incline, easy to break a sweat. Dog friendly. Went on a hike with my dog. Didn't go as far as I would want since it got too hot out but the view was great. Loved it. Maybe I'll try again some other time when there's less heat. The only thing that annoyed me was seeing poop literally everywhere on the trail, whether it's horse poop or dog poop. I had to avoid them and tell my dog to "leave it" almost every time we walked past one. read more

I've been hiking, and biking the trails here for the greater part of 15yrs. I am very reluctant to post this as this is one of my favorite spots. I have seen its popularity grow over the years, and I'm sure it wont be long before this spot is as packed as howarth park / spring lake. Bottom line this is a wonderful park! If you are from out of town, and you brought your hiking shoes, bike, or picnic basket, I highly recommend this spot. This is what Sonoma County is all about... It has some pretty tough hills, but they are worth it when you see the views that await you at the top. All I ask is that if you visit MY local parks, you respect them as if they are your own! Pack it in, pack it out... Only leave foot prints, and only take pictures, and memories! read more

For me, this place is as good as it gets. I feel like a ding-a-ling because I've worked only a few miles from this park for almost 7 years and had only learned of it's existence a month ago. I didn't really expect to be all that thrilled, but let me tell you, this park is beyond beautiful and exceeded my expectations. We are so fortunate to live in such a lovely county with options like Foothill Regional Park for walking, hiking, horseback riding and biking. I now go to Foothill Park often, and enjoy my time there always. I like to start on the Westside trail and connect to the Oakwood trail, then ending with the Three Lakes trail. It's about 2.5 miles total, and if you add in the Pond B and Pond A loops into the mix, you'll hit over 3 miles for sure. Total it takes about 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes to complete the full loop, and that's without really stopping to check out the scenery and views. If you want to take your time the 2.5 mile loop would take no more than an hour. If you feel like doing the Alta Vista trail which connects to the Three Lakes and also the Oakwood, you'll see some of the best views of Sonoma County from the top. It is pretty darn steep coming down though, so be aware. It was a little hard on my knees so if you have knee issues, you may want to avoid the Alta Vista trail or bring a walking stick to help you down the hill so you give your knees a break. Someone on the trail had warned me about the steepness coming down, and I just kinda brushed it off as an exaggeration, but she was not kidding, it's steep! So worth it though if you don't mind a little trek up and down hill. The view from the top is spectacular. Foothill Regional park is often crowded but I don't feel like I'm constantly crossing paths with people, so it's really nice to go anytime of day. It seems busiest after people start to get off of work during week days. There is a $7.00 parking fee as there is at all regional parks. I bought a parks pass that is good for a year, and I've already paid it off after only a few park visits. It's well worth the investment if you're a parks lover and plan to go often. Besides, without our support places like this will not be an option to enjoy if there's no money coming in to keep them up. Don't be one of those folks who always parks on the street for free. Please support our parks and pay the parking fee or get a yearly parks pass to save some money and enjoy our awesome Sonoma County parks. read more

Quick update on this very popular hiking park. Foothill is situated in the middle of Windsor, across from a large residential community. There are a variety of trails to walk from an easy stroll around the two ponds which are fairly close to the park entrance to a more vigorous hike which might include Westside, Oakwood and Alta Vista trails. There is a trail for everyone here and note that dogs ON LEASH are allowed. Dog owners, please adhere to the on leash policy. We witnessed a near accident between a horse and an off leash dog which could have been really bad for the horse and rider. Although we are in the middle of summer, I especially like Foothill in the winter. The trails here have a rock foundation and even after a hard rain there is virtually no mud and any puddles, even large ones are easily walked around. Very different than Shiloh Regional Park which is only a few miles away but has a clay foundation which makes it impossible to hike after a hard rain. Sonoma County is home to so many beautiful parks, get out and enjoy them!! read more

Really enjoy hiking here with my dogs. The weather wasn't amazing the last time I went which meant that there were hardly any people, which was wonderful. It can be as easy or difficult as you choose to make it. We've hiked it with more of a jog which really tires out the pups, but this time we casually strolled and took in all of the smells and views. There were deer and squirrels roaming around, the sun was shining, and all was good. read more

This place is my old stomping ground. I grew up in Elsbree just across the street from here. I have fond memories of riding my bike up here and swimming in the second lake. You are not supposed to swim, but we did anyway. A fellow old skool Windsorian and I came here the day after thanksgiving for some anti-black friday hiking and we were pleasantly surprised how awesome it is after all these years. I don't know why this place fell off my hiking radar, but I haven't been there in over 20 years and my parents still live in that neighborhood! It seems like they have added a lot more trails in the last 20 years. Most of it is a nice mix of up and down.....nothing too strenuous. Highlights include amazing vistas of the town Windsor, which was looking smashing at peak fall color. Also, the oak woodlands are a little different here. The trees all seem a little bit stunted...bonsaied almost. Very cool. I think the soil is rather scant and rocky which keeps the Valley Oaks from getting as big as they do down in the valley bottoms. There are also lots of very impressive Manzanitas up here. There is one by the second lake that is massive and spectacular and is worth a detour. We had a great time here, and it is highly recommended. Its an easy hike and you can soak most of it up in about 3 hours. read more

Great place for a leisurely 3 mile hike to get your day started. Lots more people than I'm typically used to on a trail but all seemed friendly. Dogs for days! Some friendly, some. It so much. I definitely recommend this spot to all. The path terrain is manicured and easy to navigate. Hiking shoes recommended for rocky areas. read more

The walk can be a bit rough, bit it's not a strenuous hike. The scenery is absolutely break-taking. There are benches throughout the trail for those needing a break. Pet friendly. Ample street parking and private parking. Grab the dog poop bags at the beginning of the trail, however, as they are a bit more difficult to find once you begin the trek. read more

Had to take one star off because we found a small black tick on our dog. Hiking around the lakes is nice too. You can customize your experience by keeping it really level and mellow, or you can get your major hike on and conquer some serious inclines. Beautiful and small park in which to enjoy the changing seasons and a quiet walk. With easy and well-maintained trails, it is a very nice place for solitude. The paths are wide and well-marked. We did about a 3 mile walk/hike, saw the 3 lakes, and covered the perimeter of the park. Easy parking either in the lot (with a pass or for a fee) or plentiful parking on the street. Great park for a half day hike. Recommend the Alta Vista trail, really good workout and ends with a great view of westside Windsor. Keep following the trail, you'll zig-zag back down, and hike up and down some beautiful rolling hills. You can cut through to the Three Lakes trail or stay on the perimeter of the park via Westside trail. Not a large park, the whole park takes about 2 hours to hike, but wonderful Sonoma County views, you'll forget you're in the middle of suburbia. read more

Convenient park with nice trails, singletrack and wide, beautiful views and lots of oaks. I like this park primarily for running or walking the dog. Mountainbiking not so much, since it's not big like Annadel, and because of the impedance by foot traffic. The outer path loop is something like 2.5mi with rolling terrain. read more
