If you are looking for relatively inexpensive produce near Los Altos you have three choices, The Milk Pail in Mountain View that appears to slipped a few notches since the rebuilding the whole neighborhood and parking lots, Felipe's Market in Sunnyvale, and Foothill Produce. I had not visited Foothill produce in a while and they have really branched out to carry a wide selection of food and produce since my last visit. One thing they are not known for is customer service, so if you over look that and are willing to go on a scavenger hunt for what you need or what they have to offer that day you will be rewarded with more spare change in your pocket. I asked if they had yellow corn and all the person did was give me the confused look and shrugged. They also have blaring music to make your shopping experience even more interesting than the patrons you find shopping with you here. If you are more than willing to put up with the above you will be rewarded. read more

So we discovered Foothill produce. Quality produce at reasonable low costs. Trader Joe's is next door - skip it - you'll get triple the variety and better bang for your buck here. Quality salami at the deli, as well as, a good variety of cheese and fresh Italian bread. A delicious treasure of international items, sweet and savory snacks. you really have to walk through each aisle and oooh and ahhhh at the unusual selection. read more

I don't know why this place is so popular. A lot of items just aren't that cheap, and often times the cheap items are not good quality....overall, it's just an average place in terms of quality. The selection is pretty wide though (sugar cane stalks anyone?) The place also feels a little disorganized and a tad bit sloppy, but I guess it's find for a local product market. I'd rather get my fruit at Trader Joe's or barring that, Safeway. But I can't totally discount this place, I saw some Chinese grandmas here so whatever veggies they were buying must have been a good deal. read more

I am super ecstatic about this Produce stand. Why? Let me tell ya. It is because, no lies, they have the freshest produce ever! I hate going to markets and they charge you a lot for spoiled produce. It is a pet peeve of mine. Their prices are very reasonable for how fresh everything is. Now this part is my negative thoughts and it has nothing to do with the store, it has to deal with the shopping center. Just be warned that by driving into this parking lot, you are accepting the fact that you are entering a crazy danger zone. The layout of the parking lot is all messed up. Drive as carefully as you can for your fresh and wonderful fruit. read more

Overall - best prices for produce - just like anywhere else, you must check what you are buying but have to say, most everything I have purchased has been fresh and lasted just as long as anywhere else. Some say it is fresher as they cut out out the middleman and have produce out for sale quicker - I do think it is better than my local safeway for sure! The staff is friendly and the lines move fast however it can get really really busy but just stay the course and you won't be disappointed. I like the nice sturdy bags they have to bag produce but I recommend bringing your own shopping bag to take home. I always end up with 3-4 huge bags of products for $25 - $30 each time which is fantastic! read more

Produce is priced well. Vegetables are primarily good. Fruits are frozen and thawed, so they are mostly black when you open them at home. I never buy milk here since the milk is always bad even though the expiration date is still days away. However, the worst are some of the cashiers, who are rude, and obnoxious that make fun of and gossip about the customers in Spanish in their faces. Some do not pack for you, just ring you and move on to the next customer while you are trying to put your purchases in your bag. The one star is for the cheap and reasonable vegetables and for Gabriel who has been there for years, polite, friendly, and the best in this store. read more

I usually find one or two organic items each time to make the trip worthwhile. Parking is always a problem in this center. Some interesting snacks and food items from Middle East and Europe. The biggest problem is the cashiers, rude. The last two visits, the cashier had to catch up with the person in front of me. Sensing that I was impatient they slow walked every item. I did my best to hide any impatience. Grab one item, chat with customer, enter code in register, chat with customer, slow move the item to side, chat with customer, look at me, scowl, chat with customer, laugh, speak more in Spanish, both cashier and customer look at me, scowl, rest hand on next item, chat, enter code or weigh, chat, giggle, ..... on and on Once again I need to say that I did my best to not act impatient. Giving up on this place. read more

For selfish reasons, I'd like to keep this place a hidden gem, but they deserve many praises. Very fresh, affordable produce. Every time I shop here, including just recently, I like to play a game of "how much would this all cost at Whole Foods vs. how much will it cost here?" I feel like the total bill ends up being a fraction of what it would at large retailers and it's sometimes even better quality!!!! Great selection of international pickles and jams too. I can even find Armenian soda water here.... ALL THE WAY FROM ARMENIA! read more

Fresh produce, reasonable price, easy to find stuff, this is our weekly grocery store

This place can't be beat. Best produce around, and love the selection of goods and spices.

This place is great. I can't say enough good things about it, and I frequently complement the friendly workers on their success. It's not uncommon to be offered free samples by the employees as you are browsing their diverse section of fruits, vegetables, and everything else in between. The selection is often very fresh and they offer more affordable prices than I have seen on produce in years. Honey Crisp apples is all I've got to say. Mmm, those are the best apples and they've got them at a reasonable price. Anyone who knows apples knows those are the pricier apples, at Foothill Produce they offer these at an acceptable price. Everything in this store is reasonable priced. My girlfriend and I live within walking distance, so it is not uncommon for us to visit Foothill Produce once or twice a week, leaving with two canvas bags filled to the brim with veggies, fruit, cheeses, eggs, etc. for a little over $20. You can't beat that! If you can, let me know. The only slightly negative thing I can say is that on my last few visits the tomatoes were, in some instances, bad or about to go bad. I simply had to remove the top crate of tomatoes and pick from the lower crates which had yet to have been displayed. If you ever notice anything like this, don't hesitate to ask for assistance or act yourself and find the fresh goods. They've got them. Give this place a chance, it's great and worth the trip to the area. The place is family owned and operated (friends too). Great produce at a very reasonable price. Everyone I have talked to about this place has praised their selection and price. If you have yet to visit, make the trip, you won't regret it. read more

This place sucks big time. If you want wholesale produce from a guy that drives a big truck up to the coty every morning and dumps it in a crappy little store, this is the place for you! The woman cashier called me stupid in spanish when i was just standing in line. I being the silly gringo that i am told her that was a mean thing to say to someone you dont know - in spanish! Take that puta! I then walked out of the store buying nothing and left at least 25-30 dolalrs worth of groceries on the counter like a boss! read more

One of my favorite grocery stores because you can find such great prices on fresh produce! Sometimes you need to search around to find the good ones and also the prices change pretty frequently. read more

I was in the area and decided to check out Foothill for some melons. Quality is good, but a little on the pricey side. Layout of the store is tight to maneuver a cart in. Parking lot was a nightmare on the day I was there. Overall I'm glad I went, but I won't go out of my way to go back! read more

I love foothill 50lbs of produce = 34.90 that is .69 per pound That is 8 bags That is 4.36ish per bag That is a flat of strawberries 14 avocados 10 mangos 3 baby watermelon 4 bellpeppers 16 radish 1 bushel of mint 1 of cilantro Enormous organic broccoli crown 15 serrano peppers 4 crockneck squash 1 huge purpleish garlic clove AGAIN 34.90.....why do you go to Safeway read more

Affordable quality produce in your choice of organics or conventional (but still local I'd want to hope), and also great finds in food isles similar to ethnic euro foods from international markets. I hesitated to review Foothill Produce for the fear of inviting even bigger crowds (messing up with the goodness of the place), but couldn't keep quiet any more, for it wouldn't be fair to just keep it to myself (smiley). Well, I know I'm not alone in praising these guys for their hard work! Did you know that Felipe used to work at MV's Milk Pail couple decades ago? He and his brother ventured out of there in the 90s, opened one produce store, then another... Felipe's Market in Sunnyvale is also great. read more

The fruits and veggies are beautifully fresh. The prices are very attractive. Friendly staff. This store has many different types of tasty grapes, apples, pearls, plums, tomatoes, and eggplants. I can also find out all kinds of yam: red yam, yellow yam, Japanese yam, even purple yam. The store is kinda small, but definitely not as crowded as some Asian grocery stores such as Marina seafood, Ranch 99, etc. Parking is not that easy over weekends, but so far I can always find parking space there with minor effort. read more

Zero Star deserves for their bad quality of produce. Lychees were all rotten when I opened every single one of them - fruit meat supposed to be white but they were all turned to brown. how could you sell such condition of fruit to customer? Health dept. and BBB would be involved if people know nothing about Lychees and ate them right away and got sick... transaction of $1.97 had been disputed through credit card company electronically because not even bother to communicate with this merchant. Another beet herring salad I didn't purchase when the staff washed the scoop in front of me but it was not wiped dry by a paper towel... she wanted to use it directly and this kind of less hygienic behavior really turned me off to come back to this place again...never! read more

Yep! I am going FIVE star on this place and I hesitated yelping about it because I'd rather keep it my little secret but this place is pretty well known now and it RULES! CHEAP prices for GREAT produce, not to mention they have a huge selection of stuff you can't always find. They also have a great cheese selection as well as meat and a sweets case in the back that is still relatively new. The people that work there have always been really fast and really friendly. The lines get big but they get you in and get you our fast and the prices are well below what you would pay at SAFEWAY or any of those mainstream grocery stores but freshier and better! Oh man, don't get produce from Safeway, too expensive! Also, this place takes foodstamps! How great is that?!? read more

Foothill Produce - Fruit season! - Grocery Near Me - Los Altos, California

I like Felipe's Market concept which tries to replicate the outdoor /local European market places. They have a great selection of European specialty foods at good prices. I go there weekly for my Straus's organic milk. These are the reasons I don't give it a high rating. Fresh? I can go there at the beginning of the week and see stacks of boxed produce in the entrance of the store. The boxes do not appear to get any lower. I go back a couple of days later and the same boxes are still there. Meanwhile you have multiple people who appear that they are stocking product. Always getting in the way of an already crowded space. That's the appearance, and the proof of the freshness comes in the purchase of the product. Produce does not last long which tells me it's been around a while. My wife and I like to shop farmer's markets, and the produce lasts a lot longer. Store experience. Small! I don't have the patience to take in a cart. You have customers with carts and store personnel rushing to do something. It's like going to Costco and you have to dodge the floor sweeper or forklift. Don't they do all that at night? Prices: They price most of the produce by the pound, but good luck finding a scale. I have done price comparisons with other stores and you can save money on a few things. Safety and cleanliness: A very negative review here. How many times do I have to see produce fall to the ground and picked up or left there for someone else to pickup and put back in the pile ! I have to watch myself extra when I enter and shop because of the grime on the floor. My first choice to buy fresh fruits and vegetables would be the farmer's market. But if I can't get to the farmer's markets I would prefer a Sprouts or Whole Foods. read more

GREAT PRICES FOR FRESH PRODUCE!!! good ole family owned produce shop. everything is fresh, neat, clean. many people shopping at this gem like us but the lines aren't long either. they have a lot of organic fruit which was not expensive either. (my parents bought several organic fruit for $$$ before we arrived that tasted sour...haha) we went home and ate our white nectarines, cherries, grapes, oranges. everything tasted awesome. sweet in season fruit is the best!!! also cut up their avocados to add in our salads. $0.49 each...yay!! i wish i had one near my house!! *i have asian groceries nearby but it isn't the same cleanliness and freshness* read more

I wandered in here searching for some lemongrass ... not thinking I'd have much luck ... and surprisingly found a whole crate of the stuff pretty quickly. They have excellent selection, and good prices, and seem to carry a little bit ( or a lot ) of just about everything. Also noticed a big assortment of good cheeses and a well-priced wall of tortillas during my short visit. This is a decently sized produce market, and I will definitely be visiting again! read more

Soooooo much quality fruit and veggies and the prices are super CHEAP! If you are looking to buy a little or a lot of fruit, come here. And bring your mom too, she'll love it. They have a really large variety of fresh fruit and veggies and like I said.... it's so so so CHEEEEAP! Located in the plaza with Trader Joe's and Rite Aid so you can get other shopping done when you're here too. It can get crowded but the parking lot is pretty big. read more

Wellll.......... I USED to love this place, but it looks like all the great reviews have gone to their head! RUDE, to put it mildly. Sorry Foothill Produce. Your not in my phone book, or on my friends list anymore. PS to bad your place NEVER looks like the photos below. read more

10 REASONS NOT to SHOP AT FOOTHILL PRODUCE 1. Floors are filthy. 2. Bulk item dispensers not sanitary. 3. C grade produce (bruised, overripe, rotted, underripe, moldy, etc.)...but: 4. A grade prices (you pay extra in Los Altos, but the quality sucks, see #3) 5. No habla ingles! (lamest excuse this side of the border!) 6. Untrustworthy. NEVER use a Credit Card here, fraudulent use of customer's credit card #s. 7. Swarms of fruit flies and disgusting flypaper (never gets changed). 8. Cashiers don't know the prices, and sometimes don't know what the produce item even is! (no....it's not a rutabaga). 9. Many items not priced on the shelf. 10. No indication of the fruit's origin...where did it come from? (Isn't that a state law?) read more

I have been shopped here for sometime already, but recently noticed the service quality went down. Fruit is not as fresh as before, sometime is it difficult to pick out few good fruits out of one box. And worst part, they start treating customer like a liar with no respect. They put fruit in different box with different price due to the size, I picked the few bigger fruits in the smaller box, when at check out, they demand me to pay higher price, I explain to them I pick the fruits from the smaller box, but they just think I am an liar. For four small fruit less than $3 and I cannot image any business will accuse a customer as an liar because of that. This is my last time to shop there because this such bad service! read more

I have tried to buy produce here a number of times. Each time the produce looked and smelled old and there were fruit flies a plenty. The selection looks good and if I were into canning I might get some items here. read more

Foothill produce is the kind of place you go to get local, inexpensive produce. It's not fancy or even a nice place. It's a bit cramped with piles and piles of items. It kind of reminds me of shopping in Chinatown and if you come with no expectations, you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you come here expecting to walk into a produce palace with butlers and people to hand you a lemonade when you walk in, this is not your spot. This joint has produce spilling out in front and down the sidewalk. I bought two small containers of blueberries for $0.79 each. WOW. Where I'm from, those things are like $3+. There was a 2.5 pound bag of Kale for a couple dollars. Where I'm from, half of that costs $3. As you can tell, their prices are amazing. Other items in the store include: canned goods, bread, cheese, chocolate, etc. It's not strictly a produce place. I would definitely recommend it for shoppers who are not faint of heart or their nose stuck too far up in the air. read more

I stopped in here on a suggestion from another Yelper, and I hate to say it, but I was really disappointed. The store is pretty messy, nothing looks very fresh, and there are absolutely no samples of their fruit. I pretty much refuse to buy fruit i can't sample, I've wasted too much fruit that way. They did have a decent selection of jams, local breads, and a dairy products. This isn't that convenient for me, so I doubt I'll return. read more

Hello there are flies everywhere. There actually isn't much savings here compared to trader joe's especially when the cashiers ring up the wrong type of fruit frequently. Skip the flies, the tiny aisles and bumping of elbows. I think I'd rather go to the safeway or the trader joes for fresher produce. read more

Foothill Produce seems to be crowded all the time, which leaves me wondering what's wrong with people these days. Did they all get knocked on their heads as a baby? When I bought some "produce" from this place, I brought it home and threw it out the next day because it went bad in under 24 hours. I should have known better because I say stacks of flats of moldy tomatoes in a side room. Sure, the prices are very low, but that doesn't mean they are good prices when factoring in the quality (or lack-there-of) of the merchandise that you get. Not worth checking out unless you want to see what's wrong with people in the area. read more

Terribly disappointing. Flies all over the place. We selected a few things that were priced okay, but for the most part the veggies were questionable and overpriced and we ended up putting all of our stuff back and leaving empty handed. read more

I simply cannot rate this place less than 5 stars despite how bad the parking is or how hard it is to move around in this place at any given time of the day. Where the hell else can you go buy TWO GIANT BAGS of produce (at least half of it ORGANIC) for $25?? Let me answer that for you...nowhere. Dude...I picked up a 5 pound butternut squash for 81 cents. That's just ridiculous. I got a BIG container of organic blueberries for $2.99. Organic red lettuce for $1.50 (when it's in season). They also tend to mark stuff down when it's threatening to go bad. I buy it, pour it in a baggie and stick it in the freezer. Done. I'm here at least twice a week, so I can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet. I have the whole parking/shopping thing figured out. I'm able to park against the island by Chevron, go shopping with a BASKET (never a cart people, come on now, shop smarter, not harder), in and out in 30 minutes...then back in the traffic on 85 South @4:30...yayyyyy. Words to the wise: 1. Use a basket...for the love of all things holy, USE A BASKET, not a cart. Never a cart. 2. Go EARLY. Like...before noon. 2pm at the latest. 3. If you're going to park out front, be prepared to do battle. 4. Eat more veggies. 5. This place has a LOT more than just veggies! European meats, dairy, and other stuff that I have no idea about...oh, and LOTS of honey. read more

I love this store because they have amazing prices on produce. However this review is about an experience I had in the deli section: Waited 20 minutes in the deli line to get a tuna sandwich, only to find out that they didn't have tuna that day. So I changed my order to the edamame wrap and was told they didn't have edamame either. Changed my order for the third time to the mediterranean wrap, which he also didn't have the ingredients to make. I asked if they had any vegetarian sandwiches or wraps and the man replied "no," even though there were 3 listed on the menu. I left and so did the another vegetarian woman in line behind me. You would think they could make vegetarian sandwiches in a produce store... read more

Definitely a wide selection of produce and other much needed items to do your cooking like EVOO as Rachel Ray would say. Before going into TJ's, I stopped in and bought a whole slew of fruits and veggies. They had some fantastic prices - fuji apples $1.09/lb, russet potatoes $0.59/lb, and navel oranges $0.59/lb. Not too bad. I also bought red and yellow bell peppers, mushrooms, and green beans, all for $8 buckaroos. In one corner, they had self-serve candy. I was good and stayed away... read more

Great place for produce. but,,, Although we shop here on a regular basis, but it's not as good as their sister shop - Felipe's Produce on El Camino. PRODUCE HEAVEN!!!! I LOVE this place. Ever since I discovered Foothill Produce (and their sister store, Felipe's Market), I have not needed or wanted to buy produce anywhere else. WHY WOULD YOU? The prices here are dirt cheap without sacrificing quality. Asparagus was on sale the other week for 99 cents/lb. seriously? And I can get a basket of fresh sweet strawberries for $1. Granny smith apples are 59 cents/lb. It's amazing how much produce you can walk out of this store with for even less than $5. Love it, I come here probably every few days to pick up some produce. Great location in a complex next to Trader Joes. read more

I love this produce! It's right next to Trader Joe's where I go to stock up on some groceries, but I've never been impressed with TJ's fresh fruits and veggies. This produce is a perfect compliment to TJ's! The prices are really really good - I often leave with two bags full of fresh fruits and veggies for about $20. They have an organic section, and also offer dairy, bulk, fresh bread, etc. My fave buy from this store is the berries. They are SO MUCH less expensive than normal grocery stores - about $1.50 or so for a pack of blueberries or blackberries. The employees are very helpful, especially when it's slow at the store. One day while picking brussels sprouts, one of the guys came over and trimmed the bottom leaves for me! What a nice surprise - I always hate doing that at home! ;) read more

Sure there's an assload of produce here. But that's not why I go. It's all the snack type stuff that I like. dried goods, ice cream, baked goods, drinks.
