Dr Raymond is a heaven sent lifesaver! I will be eternally grateful to him and the rest of the…read morestaff! They are my go-to vet now. Despite me living at least an hour away. He has saved my German Shepherds life twice! In August he performed surgery on my 10 yr old German Shepherd to remove a cancerous anal gland mass for a fraction of the cost. I could not afford it at her local vet and she was beginning to get uncomfortable. His staff answered all of my questions before the surgery (paranoid dog mom) and never made me feel like I was a bother. He tended to her every need after surgery and we were going for routine follow ups as we knew she was starting to have a recurrence of the mass (very small and had not grown in the 6 weeks since her last follow up) but she was very happy and healthy otherwise and was acting like her young self. The surgery gave her great quality of life back and more time. I knew the chance of recurrence was high but I wanted to give her a fighting chance. The day after Thanksgiving she was acting sick and lethargic, suddenly, so I took her to her local vet for an urgent care visit. She had a fever and they charged me $800 to perform x-ray and ultrasound and there was zero sign of spread and there was no clear cause for her lethargy. So they assumed she was at end of life and told me to take her home and just wait until she tells me she is ready to pass. They did nothing for her! No meds, or follow up appt. or call the next day (like they normally did). I was shocked and gutted and spent the next day sobbing while I watched my dog suffer for no apparent reason. I decided to message Dr Raymond during the weekend because I was desperate and wanted to make sure that I advocated for my girl. I didn't believe this was the end and wanted a second opinion from someone who I trusted and had been showing her wonderful care! He called me within 10 minutes and offered to meet me at the clinic. He started her on some antibiotics and steroids to see if she would give us any feedback as he could not find a clear cause either. She started to show some improvement thank goodness. He checked on her everyday until her followup appointment where the cause of her infection became clear. She had a neck abscess. He modified her meds slightly and she started feeling even better! He didn't perform unnecessary tests and the costs for the MULTIPLE visits were below $200. He just cleared her medically and even he said she looks like a happy dog again and he is so right! She has been happy and acting like her old self. He saved her life a second time. Had it not been for him she likely would have died due to a TREATABLE high fever/infection. This is clearly his calling and passion and he does it for the animals, not the money. Thank you!

They wanted to do x-rays and a couple of shots that was nearly $500. I'm a senior on fixed income and I said I didn't have the ink money. Would they be willing to take payments and they said no, so I had to leave with my dog, not feeling well as the weeks went by. I was trying to get my dog help elsewhere that possibly would take payments. I could not get a credit card. I'm maxed on credit cards so last week I called the vet because he was panting and I could see he was getting worse and wanted a prize on what it would cost for Dr. Robinson to put them down. She put me on hold came back and said it was probably his trachea because Chihuahuas get that and that cough and everything was causing it to spasm so come by pick up a prescription to relax his trach I told them it wasn't. He wasn't coughing or gagging anymore. He was breathing really bad but I picked up the pills went home. He never got better. I called the office. It was nearly closing time at 5:30 on a Friday I told the girl he was not getting any better. She said well it's not a miracle pill. I said I realize that she said she would have the vet call me so Randy the Vet he did call me back as I told him what was going on and he knew Rudy heart murmur being like a five out of six he said it was probably his heart keep them comfortable and he'd see him on Monday for free. Well Rudy suffered for another five hours before he gas for air rasp trying to catch his breath and dye in my arms I've left a couple messages on him getting bad finally I called him back and said he had passed away and left on their message. Well, it is a week later and I have not heard a call saying they were sorry to hear about Rudy or anything just to call and acknowledge would've been a good thing but they didn't. I found that unbelievable and harsh. I would never take another animal. I get back to that office.

What a amazing team!!!…read more My 15 pound dog was attacked by a very large dog on Sunday. I rushed her to this clinic and the entire staff was fast, efficient, knowledgeable and very caring. Unfortunately, the quality of care he provides is overshadowed by an extremely rude and unprofessional front office staff. For about a month we left messages roughly once a week regarding scheduling our Golden Retriever for a spay procedure and never received a call back. Eventually we were told Dr. Khurmi had been on vacation, and suddenly we were able to schedule the surgery. It would have been helpful if that had been communicated earlier, but at that point we were simply happy to finally get the appointment. We chose the laparoscopic option because we had read it could be less traumatic and allow for an easier recovery. We were given a price range, and when we dropped our dog off we paid $1,783.94, which was the lower end of the estimate. When we picked her up, we were told we owed an additional $116.06. The amount itself was no big deal to us. We had already agreed to a cost range and were fully prepared to pay within that range. Out of simple curiosity, we asked what caused the final cost to land at the higher end. The vet tech immediately became defensive and spoke to us in a condescending tone in front of other clients, repeatedly stating that we had agreed to a range rather than simply explaining the difference. We never received a clear answer. While waiting, there were also other clients ahead of us who appeared surprised by additional charges at checkout, so it did not seem like an isolated situation. The discharge process was also rushed. The vet tech briefly went over the medication but did not clearly review the rest of the post-operative instructions before sending us home with a printed sheet. Nearly two weeks later the stitches are still clearly visible, so we called the office today to confirm whether they were dissolvable or needed to be removed. I had made a mental note that the instructions mentioned something about sutures being removed around 14 days, as we are approaching that timeframe and I wanted to get them taken out. When I explained that this had not been discussed with us, the staff member responded in a very abrasive tone, repeatedly insisting that we had been sent home with an instruction sheet rather than simply addressing the question. After requesting the clinical summary earlier to understand the final invoice, I reviewed it again and it actually states "sutures out in 14 days," which contradicts what we were told on the phone today. As a client and not a veterinarian, I should not have to interpret clinical notes to understand basic post-operative instructions. Clear and consistent guidance is important when you are caring for a pet recovering from surgery. I have since emailed the clinic asking for clarification and am still waiting for confirmation on whether the sutures are dissolvable or need to be removed. Based on our experience, the front office staff and vet techs could benefit from additional training in client communication and customer service. Pet owners should feel comfortable asking questions without being spoken to in a defensive or dismissive tone. After reviewing other client feedback and the responses from this business, there appears to be a pattern of defensiveness rather than accountability. Hopefully this situation will be handled differently, but based on those responses I would not be surprised if the reply focuses on defending the clinic rather than addressing the concerns raised. When you trust someone with your pet's surgery, professionalism and clear communication should be the standard, not something clients have to fight for.

They are always very patient, understanding and encouraging. Not only that - but they don't try and empty your bank account in your time of need. Some vets will try and sell you on some ridiculously over-priced "plan" before haggling to something more reasonable. Not here. They've diligently worked with me for months on a tricky skin issue which we finally have gotten under control. One time he had gotten bit in his face and there was no way I could bring him into the office without total chaos. They were very creative and drew up a plan with me to sedate him in the car and then take him in. They drained and cleaned his wound. Even with sedation, emergency visit and the special circumstances, I walked away spending a few hundred (versus what I'd expect would be closer to 1k+ elsewhere). Because my pupper is SO difficult at the vet, I've been to *dozens* of vets in EDC and Sacramento county. This is, hands down, one of the best I've visited. Strongly recommend!!!

Since I am newer to the area, I wanted to try at least two vet clinics in the area. Last year I…read moretried one for my dog's annual exam, and today I tried the other, Pleasant Valley Vet Clinic. I also specifically wanted to try a male vet, as my previous vet in Southern CA was also male (and adored). So, I brought my beloved senior gal (dog) to Dr. Johnson. I was extremely impressed with the facility- ample parking, clean and spacious waiting area, nice decor, complimentary coffee (Keurig), and well-equipped. They are also well-staffed here. Our appointment went very well, Dr. Johnson did a nice job with the exam and discussing my concerns with me (recommended vaccines for the area, skin tags, etc). I especially like a vet who will sit on the floor with my dog and I. It is that type of bedside manner that I look for and appreciate in a vet. Since they have an in-house lab, I was called by the Doctor himself with the blood and heartworm results within 3 hours of my appointment - IMPRESSIVE! I was also impressed with the fact that I could pay in the exam room before I left - a convenience I have never experienced before! The exam cost was comparable to other vets in the area, the blood panel was quite a bit more than what I paid last year at the other local vet. I also appreciate that Dr. Johnson is not the type to push services, but does a nice job at communicating his professional opinion and backs it up with experience. The demeanor of the front desk staff is also very important to me and a point of dissatisfaction with that other vet's office. The gals at Pleasant Valley were friendly and welcoming. Tylene especially went above and beyond to answer some questions I had via email prior to my appointment. She was helpful, thorough and prompt in her responses. The only drawback I find in this area in general, is the lack of a holistic-minded vet. I am extremely particular about my dog's care and wellness, and do my best to research all issues and make the most informed and healthiest decisions I can in order to extend her quality of life. On our way out, my dog enjoyed sniffing and marking in the designated area off of the parking lot, which I thought was a great perk! Neither of my previous vets had this, and I know my gal enjoyed the "pee mail". All in all, I would highly recommend this clinic. The fact that they have several doctors increases your chances of being seen quickly in case of an urgent matter, and the in house lab provides faster results. It is a very nice establishment for this area, has current technology in place, attentive staff and is very clean and well-kept. I was pleased!
