These guys are on my sh*t list. They offer delivery, then understaff, overbook, and then don't deliver in the time promised. They should prioritize the people who pay for their "freshpass" program. I feel for their poor employees, but corporate needs to take notice. There are many other grocery stores in this area and some of them offer delivery, too. Also, they just "upgraded" our store. It takes forever to find anything and making something "bougie" doesn't always make it better, just more expensive. read more

I'm sorry, we all are going through things in life but that does not mean that you can treat people like crap.. I get it, it might also not be the best job in life but that does not mean you need to take it out on people. Chris was my cashier today and let me tell you, that's the kind of person that really doesn't make life any easier. Scanned items and tossed them, didn't even bother to ask if needed bags, I ended up having to tell him have a good day after my transaction, and he just rolled his eyes pretty shitty service if you ask me. This is my local foodmaxx I always shop here and the prices are so cheap. Also I give a shout out to Andrew E lol he's always at foodmaxx whenever I go. Also his hair is pretty funny and he doesn't even know what a boli is it's an otter pop he's funny. The cashier Krista was very rude towards my mom and accused her of stealing and embarrassed her in front of other customers and as soon as my mom showed that all her items in her cart were payed for, did not offer a apology and walked away. Also another experience when I was judged for using ebt don't bother speaking to the manager, he will just side with his family working there, and just kick you out of the store. Also can't buy alcohol if you have children with you, like another post put, you gotta leave them unattended in the car . Don't recommend, and definetly calling cooperate after the incident with my mom. read more

First off, I've been (was) a loyal customer for 10+ years. Today I saw a great deal on Lagunitas IPA 12pk beer. I took a pic of the sale tag and matched the barcode #s to the actual #s on the product. The beer rang up as normal price. I VERY POLITELY spoke to the manager on duty, showed her the pics it became very apparent to me that she really didn't care and couldn't be bothered. This is a corporate problem!!! They are incredibly understaffed and i can only assume underpayed!! The VERY HARDWORKING FAMILY'S in my community which endure the looooong checkout lines to put affordable food on their tables beer in their bellies dont deserve to get ripped off. Unprofessional staff, understaffed, no management. They make up their own rules when it comes to alcohol sales. They won't sell you alcohol if you're with other people and they don't have ids even if the person paying does. We're all well over 30. However a mother with teenage children can buy alcohol even though their children don't have ids. The rule makes no sense whatsoever. When I asked for corporates phone number and they denied me that request. They denied giving me names. Place is dirty, I saw open chip bags in the chip aisles. Employees look messy and unprofessional. Employees hanging out off the clock. Very hostile and defensive attitude when asked for names and corporate number. I called corporate and they're equally as bad and don't care. Stay away! read more

Just wanted to warn everyone about this store. My mother who has some medical issues and is sensitive to slight differences to her environment had a run in with a manner-less employee. My mom got a cart from out in the parking lot with a bum wheel that was having issues. Essentially it was a brake working against any progress of pushing it forward. She decided to switch carts and an employee who doesn't know his place in the world decided to comment on something that literally didn't effect him in anyway. She mentioned grabbing a new cart and he said , "they're all the same," with a wrinkled face, full of attitude. She begged to differ and grabbed a new cart anyways. To her delight, it was much easier to push. She said "that cart was messed up." He looked over at a friend and mocked my mom, "ThE CaRt WaS tO hEaVy FoR hEr." She even put the cart back, did his job for him, made his job just slightly easier but he still had to say something. To the employee that spoke up, I feel bad for you bud, this is the peak of your existence. Good luck, figuring things out with that crappy attitude. Wish I knew your name to call you out. read more

This place is unbelievable. I was buying some alcohol among other things. I have the cashier my ID because I was the one paying and he then proceeded to ask for my younger sister and brothers ID. When I asked why, he called a manager over because he felt "uncomfortable" selling to me on the fact that I was thrown off why he was asking for everyone IDs. Was eventually escorted out because he was scared. I guess you have to leave your newborns and other young children in the car unattended if you try and buy alcohol at this despicable place otherwise you'll stand in line for no reason. Company needs to reevaluate State wide laws because that was unbelievable. Time to wake up and join the rest of society on how the law works. read more

The other day I went to Foodmaxx and ended up accidentally locking my keys ,my wallet, cane and cellphone in my van. Without my cane I can't walk because of a disability. After speaking to several people who were not able to help me, I asked a female employee from the store who was out collecting shopping carts if she had a wire so that I could unlock a door since my windows were slightly opened. She went back to the store and came back a little while later and was able to fish my keys out from the drivers seat so that I could unlock the door. Unfortunately I don't remember her name, but I am forever grateful to her for going out of her way to help me. If all businesses had employees like her, this would be such a better world. I hope that either her or a coworker or supervisor sees this so they can see what a wonderful employee she is. We really need more people like her. This was around 2:00 in the afternoon. I used to really like coming to this place when it was Albertsons, specially cuz it was very close to my house. I would love coming here if wasn't for the big huge lines and only two cashiers open all the time. The line can have 20 people waiting and they do nothing to call the other cashiers. What's the point on having 12 cashiers if you're only using 2. They got everything one needs in the store except enough people to charge you. read more

If I had to summarize this store with one word it would be "dingy", It looks as if it has standards that would satisfy the health department in um...1962 in the south. Customer service? What's that? Convenience of more than ONE check out person? Heck no? And don't you complain, that's why they have low prices. They cut corners by cutting staff and pass the savings to YOU. So take what you get, At least that family sized box of Honey Nut Cheerios was cheaper than what you would have paid at Target (where they treat you as a paying customer...most times and wash their carts too). read more

This is a new FoodMaxx. They took over the building from a former grocery chain. They did a good remodel so everything looks good and is super clean. I am not a big fan of the shelf systems used by FoodMaxx or their layout. They have good prices though! Their service was not noteworthy so I figured 3 stars was good. Every morning no matter what day it is, there is a long line with more than 12 people waiting and one register open. When paying they let people bunch up and everyone is not 6 feet apart when putting their items in the carts and they don't disinfect after every customer either. The carts are not sprayed and wiped down either. Get your shit together foodmaxx. You need to ensure everyone is 6 feet apart, even when they are putting there groceries in carts. It should be one customer at a time, once that customer is clear, next customer. Have some common sense please. This is not the time to be slacking as lives are at stake with all this covid crap that is still going on. read more

Literally never enough check outs open. It won't matter what day or time you go either. Walked by tonight and they closed one. OK fine onto the next. Nope closing that one too. Great, so now there's ONE checkout lane open at 7pm, which is prime after-work shopping hours. That's the tradeoff for the low prices I suppose though. Honestly the food is as good or better than Safeway (the meat especially), and much cheaper. No crowded aisles here either, and the store is usually pretty clean. But be prepared to spend 15 mins shopping and 45 to check out. 11/13/17 - update Went today and AGAIN every single checkout lane was either empty or had the barrier up. 3 checkout lanes with people in them but I can't go to a single one. I had produce and a reduced price on an item so couldn't use self checkout, so asked one of the lanes that just closed if I could hop in. Turned out to be a mistake and it would have been quicker to just wait for a checker to come up front and open up a new lane. The people in front of my had coupons, gift cards, public assistance checks, food stamps, etc. Then they wanted to cancel items, add more, get postage stamps at the last second, etc. Again I shopped for 15 mins and spent 30 at the checkout. I almost left because I had meat and produce just sitting out for a half hour at that point. The worker wasn't any better. She also charged me twice far an item I only bought one of, had a convo with another worker in the middle of my checkout, and forgot to take $4 off the bill on the markdown item. I guess I'll just update this every time it happens, since it's way too common. read more

I've been to this new FoodMaxx twice, the latest being tonight. Very good prices on staples, with a wider selection than the Grocery Outlet down the street. (That Grocery Outlet also offers good prices, but is somewhat small, with a more limited selection. I mainly shop there for "deals," as I like to have a lot of supplies in my garage. I probably won't be going there as much, now that FoodMaxx is nearby.) FoodMaxx in Watsonville is where a Save-Mart, or some such, previously had been. (And before that, a very large Albertson's, newly opened maybe 10-12 years ago.) Maybe they share corporate parents....I don't know. Compared to Save Mart, the selection hasn't changed much, as Save Mart devoted way too large a fraction of the store to junk like picnic coolers, toys, party decorations, cosmetics, etc. (It was kind of half grocery store, half CVS/Rite-Aid.) Oh, and it used to have a largish deli section which seemed under-utilized. So the new FoodMaxx has dispensed with the aisles and aisles of non-grocery items and appears to have just as much stuff....but at low prices without gimmicks like Club Cards and Digital Coupons. (Safeway has become a nightmare in this regard, with "normal marked-up prices," "Club Card Prices," coupon prices, and now this time-wasting "Coupons 4 U" "download to your digital device....limit one discount per coupon unit of time. See this website for details.") I like that FoodMaxx has brands I'm familiar with at deeply-discounted prices. As compared to Grocery Outlet, which often carries brands from other parts of the country which are unfamiliar. (They seem to taste fine, but they're definitely regional.) Perhaps it's the demographics. This is Watsonville, but it's also in Santa Cruz County. A lot of the wealthy, and the UCSC students and hipsters who spend way beyond their means, shop at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Shoppers Corner, Deluxe Foods (in Aptos), New Leaf Market, and so on. They likely consider a trip to Safeway or Nob Hill to be slumming. Oh, and Costco, but they're in their own category. (I economized in my younger years and retired many years ago. I'm now 60. But I was always a fan of well-priced goods and services.) The self-bagging doesn't bother me. I've found that stores that offer bagging often don't have enough baggers available, so the customers typically start loading their environmentally-approved carrying totes before a bagger arrives from a nearby check stand. And all this for no break on prices? (The two places that always seem to have enough baggers are Costco and Deluxe Foods, in Aptos. Usually Nob Hill, too. Though Nob Hill used to have a 100% quota of baggers back when they hired retarded people as baggers. (Er, "mentally challenged," er, "developmentally disabled," er, "alternately synapsed.") At FoodMaxx I just dump everything back in the cart and then, at my car, move it to wherever in my car I can get to either early on, or the next day. I usually mark the dates on cans and boxes and take it directly to my garage, so the whole process works well. I expect to add Food Maxx to my regular rotation. Some stuff I buy at Costco, some at TJ's, some at Nob HIll, and some at other places I happen to be close to. (I live in the country, so few places are really close, except a sausage and meat company called the Corralitos Market, but they are really only a specialty place.) I applaud FoodMaxx and its new store in Watsonville. read more

Okay, I will start with the things about Food Maxx that makes me happy... Food Maxx is a must go to for produce, and for finding whatever your heart desires in the frozen aisle (seriously HUGE frozen section!). I go here often just for cheap produce honestly because, though the produce stand down the street has a lot of awesome choices, sometimes the prices aren't the cheapest (don't tell my produce guy, he will have my head for this!). The parts about Food Maxx that I don't like so much? The way the place is set up to bag your own stuff combined with not very communicative cashiers makes it hard to want to come back. I realize this now and just to pair it down to 15 items or less and do self-check-out whenever available. The last time I had someone check me out was a couple of months ago - I had a cart full to the brim of stuff, got alllllll the way up to the front and fully checked out after waiting in the massive line, trying to bag as quickly as I could while waiting for the total.... I'm so close to being done, I could almost taste it!.. annnddd the cashier, in very broken English, tells me as soon as I pull out my card that I couldn't use it because the machine was broken, it had to be cash only. I was in shock! "WTF?!" circled my brain for a moment before I regained consciousness of the long line waiting for me to pay and I told her I'd run to the ATM in the store... I asked her though WHY did you not say so before? Why were there no signs, no announcements, no indication of any kind BEFORE trying to swipe my card? I would have saved everyone trouble and gotten cash, or gone elsewhere, or whatever. She didn't say anything more, just stared back at me and said "cash only". I'm pretty sure she didn't understand me. I left determined not to come back but, y'know, when you're broke sometimes you overlook crappy service for cheap food. So anyway, there's my long-winded story about the pros and cons of FoodMaxx. Consider my tips if, like me, you do not speak Spanish and if you want a less stressful shopping experience. read more

We moved here a few months ago, just started to explore the stores around here and went to FoodMaxx last night. The minute we walked in, there was a not so clean person cleaning his shoe with the disinfectant hand wipe, blocking the dispenser that other customers can't get to the wipes; then we saw the same person rummaging through the food.....I know we all have the right to shop wherever we want, unfortunately, this just isn't a good first impression. Checking out for less than 10 items took about 20 minutes - self checkout was closed, only 3 cashiers and all 3 lines were long, person in front of us was coughing without covering her mouth. Store is clean and well stocked, prices are lower than the regular chains like Safeway or Raley's; I need to justify in my mind that savings at this store is worth the risk of getting someone else's germs. read more

This pharmacy not only filled my prescriptions ,but my wife's also in 15 mins with no problem or excuses awesome place .I'll recommend this place to anyone. read more

I've given Food Maxx meat department the benefit of the doubt way too many times regarding the odiferous pork chops (due date 12/8 purchased 12/6) and past experience buying similarly smelly bagged pork spareribs. This has happened too many times to be a coincidence. For some reason, Food Maxx meat is somehow manipulating the system in some way that causes bad pork to possibly be relabeled and sold with new due dates. I can see no other reason for pork to go bad before its true due date. The pork I've bought was "smelly and slimy" something that never happens elsewhere. Somebody, somehow is blatantly selling bad meat and as a Latino I don't like the manipulation of my culture not to mention the health of anyone who unknowingly eats bad pork. My next call will be to report them to the Santa Cruz County Health Department. read more

The floor staff were courteous and helpful. The store was well stocked, with a lean toward the Hispanic community of Watsonville (which is understandable). However, when I checked out, the cashier left my items on the counter as she helped the next in line. When I asked if she was going to bag it, she said, "No." I responded, "You don't bag?" She said, "No." Then, she laughed, and the customer behind me laughed along with her and they both spoke in Spanish, and laughed again as I bagged my own groceries with the bag I had brought with me. I drove 1 hour to get there and back to go grocery shopping and was purchasing a huge cart full of food, at the check stand they refused to take my check because the check number isn't over 200! (Check number 173) it doesn't state anything about this policy on their website and I felt Imbarressed and insulted. My entire cart was left there and I was unable to purchase anything. I had accidently left my debt card at home but even if I had it I wouldn't have used it due to the extremely upsetting situation. I will never recommend them or do my shopping there again! read more
