Holy CONCHAS!!! I recently traveled to Mexico and discovered my love for Pan Dulce. Since I've been back my craving for authentic sweet bread has been real. El Nopal delivered in taste, however I wish my visit was earlier in the day because the bread was not as fresh and soft as I would have liked. This is a cash only shop so don't forget your $$$. The outside is nothing special and pretty easy to overlook. The inside is small, basically just a grab and go sort of shop. This is a family run business and I have been coming here since I was a kid. The pan dulce is legit. This bakery is the BEST; The bread melts in your mouth - yeah that's how fresh it is. Baking is done on location which is why this place stands out from the rest. I recommend going here to experience an authentic Mexican panaderia. Every time I've gone they are always busy with a line out the door's, it's very popular and obviously with covid they are limiting the amount of people that can go inside, but trust me it's worth the wait. The staff here are fast and efficent. I buy a bulk, store them in a plastic container to keep them fresh to enjoy throughout the week. If I could give no stars thats how I would rate this place. I placed a large order over $113.00 last Friday paid it in full. I was told all I had to do was give my name for pick up. I explained this was for a funeral reception and how important it was for this to be ready on Wednesday. When my daughter went to pick it up the girl says there was no such order. I was livid, I had prepaid and was promised it would be ready. It took an hour to get resolved, of course there was no Manager. This bakery is absolutely delicious and deserves accolades and awards for the pastries they're producing here. The conchas are my #1 go to (and I'll safely guess that I'm not alone on this) when I'm here. It's like they bake them in an ancestral oven that has been blessed from above. Nice little bakery. Very friendly service Limited selection on this Saturday afternoon around 2.30. I got 2 large empanadas, they were huge with a cookie like crust. The pineapple filling had chunks of fruit and the apricot jelly was flavorful. I also had a small pumpkin empanada the crust was more like bread but the filling was good. The strawberry cream cheese pastry had a nice crust and you could taste the strawberry. They also had day old Pan Dulce prebagged for only 1.50! About 4 or 5 pastries in each bag. Everything is fresh here. Lots of goodies to choose from, plus they have fresh coffee if you need a quick pick me up. This place gets packed though when the church across the street lets out so if you know the service schedule, you might want to avoid those times. This place is DELICIOUS! I will go out of my way to get bread from here. I will make a trip just for these warm bites of warm flower topped with sugar. It is by far the best panaderia in the local area. There are other locations and the only reason this gets 4 stars is because it is not as good as the one in Hollister which carries the same name and is run by members of the same family. Their Sema is made out of wheat making it a very healthy alternative if you are trying to keep away from the uber sugar coated Mexican bread. If you don't mind the extra sugar go for the conchas which are often freshly baked and right out of the oven. Their conchas are by far their popular bread. Other breads are delicious as well. I prefer the elotes, empanadas, and polvorones. You can order ahead if you have an event or need a large order of bread. Go prepared because they only accept cash. They do have a debit machine which is oddly placed in that crowded panaderia but can be convenient if you are low a few bucks. read more
