Asked them to make a custom cake recently for a 1st year birthday party. It turned out beautifully - even better than I expected. Their service level and attention to detail cannot be beat. Quality control is outstanding. The storefront is a bit tucked away in an industrial park, but once inside, it is neat and well lit and their cases do a nice job of showing off the various baked goods. We tried several of the varieties and they were all excellent. Great bakery. read more

I ordered a custom cake through email for my son's first thanksgiving. I sent them a picture of a cake as an inspiration/reference. The person that I was emailing was very attentive and helpful. I loved it. I picked up the cake and I was happy with the result. The flavor that I picked was lemon lovers. It tasted very delicious, not too sweet just perfect. The store is very cute and there's a lot of good cakes and cookies options there. Parking is not a problem. I love coming here. read more

My wife surprised me for our 10 year wedding anniversary by having the top part of our wedding cake remade by the same company that originally made it! The flavor is raspberry amaretto with a buttercream frosting. So yummy! According to my wife, the people at Freedom Bakery were super responsive and able to make the cake within 10 days of contacting them. Hoping they are still around for our 20 year anniversary! read more

Went to get their dream cake for my son's birthday. Everyone approved of the selection. Cake was light and not to sweet. The perfect size.

The perfect wedding cake!! Freedom Bakery was fantastic to work with for our wedding. They executed our vision perfectly. Not only was the cake beautiful, but it was so delicious. We kept hearing compliments throughout the evening. I'm lactose intolerant. I really appreciated that they accommodated the bottom layer of the cake, so it was dairy free. It was so tasty that no one even noticed the difference. From the initial meeting with Paul and working with Tania along the way, the Freedom Bakery team was communicative and easy to work with. I highly recommend working with them for any event or even if you're visiting and craving a sweet dessert in the area. Thank you so much for making our wedding cake dreams come true! read more

Bookmarking this to my Yelp after reading many rave recommendations for Freedom Bakery's Monterey location, on Eat and Drink - Monterey County FB group. Someone posted request for bakery to make gluten free wedding cake without any gums-guar, etc. I've known of Freedom Bakery Watsonville for years (decades?) as a local fave but don't buy cakes. Reminded to go in and see what other wonderful baked goods they've got however. read more

I placed an online order for my kids birthday cake and it was so quick and convenient! The employee working held down the store during a small rush when i went in to pick up the cake, she was so kind and made sure we were happy with the cake! We ordered the 1/2 sheet rectangle matcha green tea, it was more than enough for a party of 20 adults and 10 children! Everyone loved the cake flavor, i overheard the kiddos talking about how tasty and fluffy the frosting was. The matcha flavor was prominent and with a muted sweetness, it was a hit! Im excited to try out the rest of the cake flavors for future parties! read more

Ordered our wedding cake with them and it came out beautiful. They were able to create our vision and added in the dried floral and topper we ordered through Etsy. We ordered the cake sampler to try out the flavors. You pick it up and take it home. They give you a small piece of each flavor along with a key and rating sheet. They suggest eating the cake at room temp but we felt they had more flavor when cold. We ended up ordering the raspberry preserve with Italian lemon mousse with white cake. We didn't really taste any lemon in our actual wedding cake but it was still really good. If you end up ordering a cake, they take the amount you paid for the samples and apply it to your cake balance. I think that's very creative and thoughtful to offer. We ended up getting a two tier cake with a sheet cake to serve. The staff was very communicative during the process and we appreciate their help to make our dream cake! We would recommend them for sure! Bonus!!!! On our 1 year wedding anniversary, we opened up the cake top and it was literally just as good as on our wedding. A+ for my husband wrapping it so well ;) read more

Freedom Bakery made our cutting cake for our wedding, and we couldn't be happier with the results. We requested a heart-shaped, 4-layer cake with the Belgian chocolate ganache and chocolate mousse flavor (the Monterey), and it was incredible! We had a family member pick it up (they don't deliver 1-tier cakes) at their Monterey location, and it stayed quite well up until the cake-cutting portion of the evening. We will definitely be back around our first anniversary to order a similar cake to celebrate. read more

My family and I we're staying in town for vacation, not too far away, and we last minute needed a cake to celebrate the vacation we were on. I had yelp a bakery that was closest to where we were staying and then this place showed up. I had called on Thursday early afternoon and a lovely lady by the name of Carolina had answered. I had called in asking for a camping themed cake for pick up for the following day at noon. I had saw a design that they already had done with another cake and I just wanted to add our flare to it. Carolina was super friendly and super professional. She answered everything I asked about from the style, the size, filling and design. She even made a suggestion on one of the style of cakes that they already had done that would go great with the theme that we had. I am super grateful to them that they were able to execute the cake for us in such short notice. I really appreciate that. The fact that they do a quarter sheet cake here. We had pulled in the next day and walked in and it is such a wonderful place with so many fun cookies. We picked some of those up for the kids that we're with us as well as our cake. If you're in town, definitely check this place out. It's a really cute mom and pop shop. when we brought out the cake to our family and friends, they were so amazed with all the cute little details and the cake also was super delicious. read more

We have used the Freedom Bakery for custom cakes multiple times and we've always been thrilled. They are kind, courteous, and well organized. I ordered a large sheet carrot cake with a boat theme for my husband's birthday. The decoration on the cake was awesome but the best part was the taste of the cake. It was honestly the best carrot cake any of us had ever tasted! 10 stars!! read more

Best Bakery in Watsonville love their whipped cream frosting on their cakes. I would highly recommend going to Freedom Bakery

I ordered the "Dream Cake" for a coworker that was retiring. The bakery is 15 miles away from where I work and not a lot of coworkers knew of the bakery. I sent Freedom Bakery a picture to print on the cake. When asked how I wanted it decorated, I said to let the Decorator decide. I would NEVER have been able to suggest to them the excellent way they decorated the cake. Everyone at work LOVED the design as well as the dream cake. It came out perfectly! I also ordered a dozen of specialized cookies for the retiree and it literally brought him to tears. When asked if he was going to eat them he said, "NO, I am saving these". I have been going to Freedom Baker for all 50 years that they have been open. You can't go wrong with them. They seem to put so much effort into making an excellent product and I hope they are around for another 50 years! read more

Their cakes and pastries are to die for. I have been buying cakes from them since they were on Freedom Boulevard. My family's favorite is the Dream Cake. It is so very, very delicious and not too sweet and it's soft it practically melts in your mouth and the chocolate shavings make it taste so good and the whipped cream is amazing. I highly recommend this bakery . And their eclairs are so amazing. When my grandkids were little I used to surprise them with the cookies from there, and they loved them too. For the last 4 years I've gotten a cake from them. Everything came out great except for this last time! I ordered a custom cake and paid extra for decoration and gold sprinkles. I even sent them photos of what I wanted to their email for inspo. They just slapped a photo on top of the cake and did zero decoration and zero gold. It was NOTHING like the inspo photos I sent (which was confirmed that they received them) It was the ugliest cake I've ever seen! Unfortunately, I couldn't complain and ask them to redo it since I needed a cake that day. Never again. If dollar tree had cakes, they'd be better than what I got that day. read more

I ordered their Italian rum cake but was very pretty disappointed with it. First, it was very simple with no decorations or anything on it. Second, it lacked the rum flavor that it claimed to have. Third, the cake was also flavorless and kind of dry. Fourth, it is TOO expensive for what it is. I only liked that it was not overly sweet and the online ordering process was easy. Pick up was a little rough because of parking. The owner (i think) was nice and did not take long to get our cake. Personally, I really wanted to like it. I would not order from here again or recommend it to others. Cake: 5/10 read more

It was literally the tastiest cake I've ever had. No joke. I ordered my birthday cake in late May of 2024. I let was vanilla cake with vanilla custard filling. As a pudding lover, I REALLY liked the filling. Not too sweet and just the perfect texture. It also digested VERY well (even after I had some leftovers while high at 1am) for me. I have IBS so I usually avoid frosting. But it was my first birthday as a trans person with my new name...I REALLY wanted to see it on a cake. Something about that was just so .... justifying. It was also what I had for dessert after my first meal...after a post-ER visit (for IBS/nausea). I didn't eat anything for a week and I was scared the sushi (at Kuma Sushi in Monterey) and cake wouldn't work...but it all worked out! Both the cake and sushi was fresh! My friends also said that the cake was the best they had in years...they keep asking if I will use this bakery again. And I DEFINITELY will! I ordered a Boston cream pie for the next dinner party. I'm more excited for the cake than the dinner. The service and price was also out of this world. Even though I was indecisive when I called, they were very patient with me. And they did a good job of explaining their options. read more

My family has been going to Freedom Bakery for many years and they have supplied our family with birthday cakes since our kids were little. This time, Freedom Bakery provided us with 3 cakes for my daughter's quinceanera. We had confidence that they would do a great job, but we were completely blown away by the quality, the artistry, and the taste of the three cakes. Two full sheets with their famous fresh strawberry supreme, and the Fiesta Celebration round cake in Red Velvet. All of our guests remarked on how beautiful the cakes were. Some even thought that the round cake was fake because it was so perfectly decorated. The price was great! The staff were professional and caring, and again, the cakes were spectacular. Read about this bakery online and was excited to try their wedding cookies. Pretty clean quaint bakery, hidden in a commercial zone. Grabbed a handful of cookies to try. They're cake displays were awesome. I tried the chocolate shortbread cookies first, and they were pretty good then tried and they wedding cookies little bit disappointed that was worth taking a trip to visit. Still on a hunt for some tasty wedding cookies. May need to get a hold of my friends mom to make at this point . Pretty pricey $2.75-$4.00 a cookie. Definitely for special occasions. I can say I may come back to try their cake slices next time. read more
