Not too fond of this place. Customer service here is below rating. I was here close to 10am and noticed that their "self-checkout" wasn't ready. There was only one cashier next to the self check out lane and she didn't want to open up the self- checkout when one of the staff asked her about it. Apparently, she was the one who had the key and can open up the area. Anyway, I decided to call the store from where I was in line (I was probably the sixth person in line at the time). To make a long story short, I attempted to call three times before I actually got a person to answer the phone. Found everything I needed, though I had trouble finding trashbags, and I had to catch the attention of a staff member to direct me to the aisle it would be located at. As I left with roughly $50 worth of items, I said, "Have a good day" to the security guard. He didn't acknowledge me, so I just shrugged and walked out. But as I walked, all the sudden, I WAS GRABBED FROM BEHIND, AND A MAN GRABBED MY BAG. Guess who it was? The security guard himself. Ambiance: I went yesterday to the one in Fremont near the closed red lobster. At the time, absolutely no carts to be found. They're scattered everywhere. Most people wouldn't make a big deal about not being able to find a cart but as a loyal shopper, it's the first most important thing. We need carts if we buy multiple things. I'm not an octopus. Paper all over the ground. I see carts scattered everywhere and not lined up the way they should be or garbage in the parking lot and paper all over the front of the outside store: makes me wanna go someplace else. But once you get inside you will find some pretty good deals. Items are priced very well and good deals can be had here. They do a pretty good job with this place on the inside keep it's pretty stalked up. It can get very busy during peak hours and get ready to wait 10 + minutes no matter what time you go in line. They don't bag for yourself but people who are not use to this will really hold up the line. This place is about getting good deals and getting out as fast as you can. They just need to staff more people on the register. The lines can be very massive if you go at peak times 20 + minutes waiting. I like to go late at night when the lines are way shorter but they only run 1 person at the register and if you have a Hayward crack head in front of you who hasn't taken a shower it not the most fun in the world. Good Prices, Fresh Produce and Saving are great I give you the extra star. But you got to keep the parking lot a bit neater and staff better. I'll give you 2 star for FoodMaxx if you don't mind the ghettoness it can be a good place to save money. I mostly wanted to leave a review for their gluten free section. I know what everyone is thinking, I'm one of those health nuts (insert rolling eye emoji). But listen, if I had my way I would continue to eat tortillas and tortas with no regrets but unfortunately my stomach don't work like that. Anyways, I didn't want to wait in the Long line at Trader Joe's so I thought I'd drive out to Food Max and cross my fingers that they'd have a decent gluten free selection. I was feeling pretty disappointed as I was having a hard time finding stuff but then just as I was about to give up, I find what I'm looking for! They have gluten free crackers, sandwich bread, burger buns, trail mix, and even gluten free cheese itz. Y'all, I have never been so happy to find gluten free food in my whole life! The cheese itz are a little eh but if you dip them in some spicy hummus, you WILL eat the ENTIRE box in one sitting. Most gluten free bread I have tried always tastes a little funky but this brand had the best gluten free I've ever had. The buns and pasta are decent not great but they're still cool. The sandwich bread has been my favorite so far! If you are looking to cut down your wheat intake or perhaps have celiac disease and don't have a TJ or Whole Foods nearby, I would recommend checking out this locations gluten free section. Again, no diet-7up. Also, the self check line needs improvement. There are no scanning guns. You must put each item individually in the area left of the scanner and not back Into your cart, Otherwise, 'You have placed an item in an unauthorized area' every time error. If you have a lot of cans, there is not enough room by the register to handle that many. The self-check is convenient to use if you do not have a lot of cans, such as canned vegetables. A scanning gun at each self-check station would alleviate this. This allows the items to remain in the cart and not force customers to needlessly transfer items. Yes, in the past I've had the self-check supervisor scan multiple cans, but I shouldn't need to do that. read more

I've stopped going after various incidents of employees and other shoppers either not wearing masks at all or wearing them inappropriately. I stopped in here because it's on my way home from work. I used to drive to the Safeway on Foothill, but getting there during evening rush hour traffic is crazy. FoodMaxx is hella convenient. I wanted to pick up some wine. When I walked in I didn't even know if they would have it. I traveled the outside of the store, counterclockwise. When I saw beer, I suddenly had hope. I kept walking and there ahead of me was the wall of wine. The selection isn't huge, but they carry some I have enjoyed in the past and the prices were good. I paid absolutely no attention to anything else they carried. I wasn't there to shop Yes, the lines are crazy long, but since customers bag their own groceries and each line has two downstream conveyor belts, it moved more quickly than I expected. I don't eat processed food so I'm not likely to start shopping here for my vittles, but for a bottle of wine on the way home, stopping here even with the lines, is WAY quicker than driving to Safeway. read more

Food Maxx sells all name brand stuff way cheaper then Lucky or Safeway. You can buy the same exact groceries for about 2/3 the price. A couple of things though.
