Has anyone else had issues with bad smelling meat from here ? I've now thrown away a big fanily pk if ribs & a family pk of bone in pork chops. Both smelt really weird when opening to wash off. What a waste of money. read more

It's a grocery store that has the essentials such as bread, eggs, and milk. The staff is nice and helpful. For example, I was looking for pita bread. I asked an associate because I couldn't find it. She walked me directly to the bake goods and there it was, pita bread. read more

This is within walking distance of my house so I go here on occasion. I love that they now have an organic section (even though it is small). At least I can get my organic baby carrots! I've always been able to find what I need and the store has been very clean anytime I've gone. read more

The 5 stars is for Shawn. It was 100% my fault. I was getting the 4 for $5.00 soda (Pepsi) Cokes are 3 for $5.00. I grabbed a lemon lime that was righg next to the Mtn. Dew and saw the sale sign. Unfortunately, I was reading the Mtn. Dew sign so Shawn noticed something off. I had gotten 2 prpsis and 1 Dew but the lemon lime was a different sale. He kindly and patiently worked it out with me. Food 4 less aka back in the day "Food 4 Free" becuase in Hawthorne there was never anyone working there and you could walk through the whole store and grub whatever you wanted and then just leave the store. Mind you I never did it myself but a bunch of the guys I grew up with did. Anyways....onto this Santee store. This was the first time I went here. I forgot something at another store so I went here to check it out. Food 4 Less is a little weird. Its brings out a certain type of grocery shopper. Im not saying for better or for worse, just a certain type. Hard to explain. The stores are all set up the same. You walk in and head to your right and that is where the deals of the week are all stacked up. You then round the corner to the produce section and then back around. Its a big lap you have to take to get to the middle of the store. Some things I did like about it. Real good prices on alcohol, you dont need a club card to shop there and get discounts, and they also have a little bakery section where they sell hoagie and kaiser rolls 4 for a buck. That is good when you want to make a bomb ass sandwich at home and dont want to buy a 6 pack of rolls. Anyways......the store is huge and they also make you bag your own groceries which I have no problem doing and actually like. Makes the lazy people in the world work just a bit ;-). Overall a decent store. Not my favorite, but it will do if you are on Cuymaca St. read more

I'm not a huge fan of Food 4 Less, but this location had more products than I've seen at others. The selection of almond milk was especially exceptional. The facilities were very clean (I value clean restrooms) and customer service was v good. read more

The store isn't pretty, but the selection is adequate and the prices are very good. Now the thing about the prices is that you will often find that a great price is listed for a product but then the fine print says you need to buy 10 to get the price. Long story short their day to day prices are good enough that you can just assume that the sale prices on all dry goods are a lie. The cashiers are friendly and quick and if you find yourself in a long line they will open another register at your request. We drive past a lot of grocery stores to shop at this one. read more

I am always here since it is within walking distance from my house, this place really turned itself around! The staff has always been pretty friendly but their new set up is great. They have a good selection of foods, especially ethnic so kudos there. read more

Very rode customer service and my worst experience at Food4less. They advertised Gatorade for $0.79 at the shelf's with no limit. I tried to get two boxes for school and they didn't let me buy them because they said our boss don't let us. I don't recommend this place because of their customer service and miss advertising things. read more

I shop here all the time and live very close by. Will have to give it FIVE stars because they have managers specials on lots of items that cut the price in half! Of course you do need to get there early to get the GREAT deals...d;^) read more

I am not a Food 4 Less frequent shopper at all. I only visit this location in rush times when I need to pick up my son next store and don't have time to visit Sprouts or Albertsons. I give them high praise for their prices and philosophy, but don't really like the maze type layout that they have. Also, since I usually am rushed when I visit, I'm not a big fan of the self bagging. Overall the store is nice, usually well stocked, but might need a little updating to bring in a different level of customer. read more

eeeekkkkkks me thinks not.....if you have a party and you want to try and order a cake....best to go somewhere else....save your self the frustration.....tried for two days to get a cake order without success...it is like they do not give a flying fux.....when your really need it don't play chances here....even management does not give a fux...talked to the manager twice with no avail....go figure read more

I don't mind going to Food 4 Less as long as it is not disgustingly dirty as the El Cajon one. This one is pretty gross, but only because some of their produce and salad bags have molded on the shelf. I tend to find good deals here with frozen foods. The only other pro is that it's not busy. read more

Food 4Less is not one of the better shopping experiences one will ever experience and I shop there only for good deals on name brand foods. Their meat department has poor quality meets. The produce is fair and the bakery is not something I would use. The staff is nice and friendly, but the checkout lines can be long as you have to bag your own groceries. read more

I love the location and prices, I also like the staff but there is one checker there named Maggie who works the fast lane who has been a constant deterrant to shopping there. She has a huge attitude and makes ugly comments with zero customer service skills but whatever. I will continue to shop here and I assume I am not the only customer who could do without maggie so I doubt she will be there long. All in all I will remain a loyal customer here. read more

A nice alternative to Albertsons, Target, and even Wal Mart. Especially, if (like me) you're sick and tired of long checkout lines at those stores. You can save a lot of money shopping here, but they don't have everything. read more

This store is really growing on me. I find my self coming here more and more. Its really close to one of my favorite baby resales therefore I run in when ever I'm there just to pick up a few quick items. The store is always clean the staff is friendly . The produce section looks clean and fresh. I can say I now a weekly shopper this store just gained a new customer. read more

GREAT deals.... you bag your own groceries which i don't mind. Great time to buy the reusable bags!! Customer service is great.... i asked the guy in the meat department for help on specific meats and he took the time to show me and help me choose great steaks for my bbq. At time of check out, one of the managers was standing watching over the registers and he noticed i was waiting and took me to a less crowded line and was able to check out quick. We love this place. We started coming here even more when Haggens opened up. The staff is friendly and my son Dylan loves talks to the clerks who have been friendly and courteous. We mostly have been checked out by Vanessa and June who have been very great. This has become our #1 go to grocery store now. read more

This is my 'go to' store. We spend $400 a month here easily. The weekly sales are decent but you need to really look around for the hidden deals. IE: 1 pound bags of BBQ almonds were marked at 3/.99. Yes, 3 pounds of almonds for $1. They were BBQ flavored and not a big seller, I guess, but I bought & vac sealed 12 pounds for $4. Beer is cheaper than at Costco and every now and then they have great deals on staples like Barilla pasta for $1 a box, etc.. The meats, while not the choicest cuts, are a great deal when on sale. I've bought tender NY's there for $3.47 a pound and Tri-Tips for less than $3/pound on sale. The employees are for the most part really nice, especially the cashiers. Only had a brushoff with one meat dept. employee who was in a hurry. Now for the bad: Check expiration dates. Sometimes the canned goods are within a year of the 'best by dates'. I've seen milk, a day past the expiration date, still in the cold case, but they removed it after i told them. I still do the 'Food4Less' poke and sniff with the chicken as I have bought spoiled poultry there before. If it smells ok, I buy it. If it smells 'off', I take it to an employee. I'd never just leave it there. All in all, a great place to shop. You can bring your own bags, use their plastic bags or ask for paper bags which they keep under the counter. They also recycle plastic grocery bags there. Enjoy! read more

This food for less is a lot cleaner and safer than the food for less in El Cajon. They keep the store pretty well managed. I love the prices and will continue to shop here. Very good for a single parent raising a family. read more

I usually go to this store for the great deals and the clean and orderly appearance. Unfortunately my last couple trips have been met with some opposition but certain checkout clerks when I use my coupons. Usually it is the older female checker, but this time it was surprisingly the manager, of all people, who was rude and impatient. I was not doing anything outside of using manufacturer coupons and he acted like I was trying to steal something!!! I was very disappointed, as I was following their coupon policy! Ironically this same manager had printed on his badge, 1st in Customer Service, which I found to be very unlikely! Regardless of how busy the store is, they should treat all the customers the same...even those who are intelligent enough to save money by couponing!!! read more

I have been a patron at this store for Five years+ the prices are great i wouldn't buy the fish and the place smell funny but these are small things until about a year ago when things started going down hill in the customer service department I'm not sure if they hired a bunch of new people and that's the problem but the "manager" was in such a hurry to do god knows what he shoved me slammed my cart in the wall and didn't even look back to apologize and my mother who is a very sweet older lady was very rudely made fun of and laughed at by a bunch of immature teenage boys they call employees if this the normal customer service at there establishment no thank you ill shop else where read more

I probably go to this supermarket more often than any other and I cherry pick sale items at markets. The true low price leader. 35 16.9 oz waters, 3 packs for $10 + crv. Tastes good. Typically $2 for 24 oz great breads. Kroeger OJ varies but it's my favorite from $1.79 to $2.50 depending, normally nearer low price. 16 cheese slices .99. Charmin like house brand toilet paper is as great as Charmin but cheaper. Good friendly help. I watch their weekly ads as there's always something that draws me in. There's a store manager who is also the quickest check out person ever. read more
