I've been to a few cooking classes over the years but this one "takes the cake". Owned and operated by professional chef Mark McNamara, it is well worth the drive to Greenock in the beautiful Barossa Valley. Speaking with Mark I discovered the wealth of his experience overseas and in Australia.
The kitchen is an old garage converted beautifully with a wood ceiling and gorgeous rectangular wooden table surrounded with high stools. It was delightful not to see a microwave and there are plenty of quality pots and pans, and a lovely selection of plates. He didn't have many gadgets which proves you don't need much to make delicious food. His wife often assists but this time Mark's assistant Heerah happily made the coffees and teas, and cleaned up to ensure the class ran smoothly. Mark lives in the house next door and the huge block is abundant with fruit trees, herbs and produce, all for the cooking classes and his personal use.
Mark shared his tips generously and was well organised with a booklet of the dishes to be cooked and the recipes included. He spent so much time explaining techniques and showing them with such passion that it put everyone at ease. The whole lesson felt like I was in a friends kitchen, and is certainly a great place to learn, eat and enjoy. There are many styles of cooking classes on offer so one can immerse themselves in exotic cuisines or simply delicious food. read more
