Carne Cartel (a collaboration with Chainsmokers, the urban halal barbecue restaurant with locations…read morein the GTA and London) is a new stationary food truck currently in its Soft Opening, that has taken up residence in the same plaza as Growers Retail in Scarborough. They specialize in halal inspired sandwiches ($10.99) that are packed with flavour. Let me preface by saying that I'm not normally a sandwich person. But Carne Cartel has made me rethink my stance on sandwiches. Even just reading the descriptions of these sandos had my mouth watering. Some of the menu items include: The Cowboy - bbq brisket, creamy coleslaw, crispy onions, smokn'spicy mayo Hot Tit - flamed chicken breast, pepper sauce, garlic hero mayo, cucumber, sweet onions, scallions, BB pickles Hot & Crispy- dredged and fried chicken breast, sweet spicy sauce, garlic herb mayo, BB pickles K -pop - bulgogi brisket, carrot, cucumber, sweet onions, scallions, kimchee Eat my Eggplant - crispy battered eggplant, sweet onions, smokn'spicy mayo, garlic herb mayo, scallions, kimchee, BB pickles We tried the K-pop sando. The sandwich was generous in size and there was tons of flavour in the sauce and thinly sliced but crisped bulgogi brisket pieces. I really enjoyed the acidity from the kimchee and the freshness imparted by the cilantro and vegetables. Also featured during the soft opening were some Filipino inspired dishes from Chef Mark Esguerra's childhood of enjoying his grandmother's (aka Lola's) cooking. Inasal (or chargrill) is a method of cooking that imparts incredible flavours to whatever is being prepared. Using the inasal technique, Chef Mark takes humble dishes like chicken and Loco moco and elevates the experience. We tried the Ma-nok N Rice ($12.99): sweet soy & lemongrass marinated chicken, pickled red chilis, crispy garlic, scallions, jasmine rice. This is no ordinary chicken and rice dish. The grilled chicken leg was so juicy and flavourful. The amazing balance between the salty soy, spicy chili, & freshness of the scallion and lemongrass flavours in the marinade makes this chicken extra special. There are options to upgrade to a half or whole chicken for $14.99 or $24.99 respectively. There is no seating so takeout only. We ate in our car. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu offerings. Highly highly recommend checking them out!

Wow I don't normally give 5 stars but Road Grill really impressed me!…read more The truck came by my office today and everyone was SUPER excited. Needless to say, everyone was very excited and hungry for lunch! Since I've never tried them before I asked what they recommended and she said the steak burger or cheese burger. I decided to get the mushroom cheese burger ($10) and made it a combo fries + drink ($4). It was very windy today and the lady was kind enough to tell us to wait inside our office building while they cook the food. It didn't take too long for us to get our food. The burger was huge and the beef patty was very thick and juicy! They put onion rings in the burger which is a plus. The fries are topped with just garlic cream sauce which made the fries that much better! It's been 11 hours since I ate the burger and I'm still drooling about it. They also have a store called Grill Gate and I'll definitely go check that out. $14 for the combo is not bad at all! Definitely recommend everyone to try if you have the chance.

This food truck is a gem in Markham!…read more My partner and I ordered two flavours - fish and chicken. I particularly love the fish one because fish fillet was soft and moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. On the other hand the chicken one was not as impressive as the fish one. Probably because the chicken was diced, it can get quite messy eating it. I'd say 2 for $10 is a great deal and I'm all about fish. The food truck is usually opened on the weekdays only, till it's sold out. One more thing, it's closed in winter, from November... You'll see him again in Spring.

The crispy gnocchi were coated in cheese curds and smothered in braised veal. What a combination. The gnocchi were not heavy, like others I've tried. They were lighter and absolutely deep fry-able. The veal melted in your mouth. Instead of gravy the jus from the veal did the trick. If you told me I'd be eating a gnocchi poutine last week, I would've said you were crazy. While at Celebration square on Canada Day, there were various food trucks, the likes of which I've seen a million times (fg, Smoke's, Per Se, Beaver Tails, etc.) but I had never heard of Frankie Fettucine. I saw they had 6 selections, which included a couple kinds of poutine (osco busco was one of them), bacon mac n cheese and sundaes. I decided to get the Bacon Mac N Cheese for $10 as I just had poutine earlier in the day. This was one of the best Mac N Cheese's I've ever had. The pasta seemed like it was hand made, the bacon was flavourful and the cheese, OMG!. This was not your normal cheddar cheese. I think it was Parmesan and it melted so perfectly. I have to say, this is one of the few food trucks I felt I got my money's worth. Verdict:: If I see them again, I will definitely give them another go and hopefully let me ride the bandwagon.

When I found out that another Street Eats Market was opening up in Scarborough, I was ecstatic. The…read moreoriginal location at Hillcrest Mall in Thornhill is convenient to get to. However, this one across from Scarborough Town Centre is roughly half the distance for me to get to by car. This Street Eats Market is where Old Scott House used to be. Years ago, when I worked in Scarborough, a colleague was about to retire. A handful of us came here for his farewell dinner. I was fortunate to be a part of it and that restaurant had the best chateaubriand that I shared with a friend. Sadly, this restaurant died and became a Baton Rouge. I never dined there, but it also folded. I am pleased that Street Eats Market has made a home here. I dropped by last Friday for a late lunch. I decided to park in front of Walmart, across from the entrance that is also close to Best Buy. Technically, there wasn't a pedestrian crossing for me to cross the street. However, my spending three years working nearby helped. I still remembered how the traffic lights are timed at this intersection, which includes off-ramp traffic from highway 401 that isn't as crazy as exiting off McCowan. I safely made it across. If you want to play it safer as a pedestrian, park at the Best Buy lot (there's lot of parking) and walk over. There is a pedestrian crossing on the north side of Progress Avenue. Alternatively, there's another entrance with parking further east. However, that one is the main entrance to Street Eats Market and is a lot busier. There are two main food trucks that attracted me to drop by: - Rick's Good Eats - BeaverTails I absolutely love the food from both places. Since I had purchased a bunch of donuts earlier in the day, I decided to skip BeaverTails this visit and focus on Rick's Good Eats. I had my eyes on the tandoori gar-par wings. They are strictly available at this food truck and not at their Mississauga restaurant. There were a bunch of other food options that tempted me, but I am a wings fanatic and had to get them. I approached the food truck and had a friendly female staffer take my order. I ordered the wings and got a watermelon lemonade to wash everything down. I paid for my food with my debit card. Including a tip, it was $25. It's not cheap eating at food trucks. Since I love them so much and don't do it often, I was perfectly fine shelling out. She said that it would take ten minutes to complete my order. I was good. It allowed me to walk around, although it was spitting rain. I was prepared, armed with my umbrella. She asked whether I wanted the watermelon lemonade now and with my order. I went with the former. The watermelon lemonade was in a cute bottle. It was $7, which seemed expensive. I am glad that it came in one size or I'd be drinking that stuff all day. It was so refreshing. It's more lemony than watermelony. It wasn't overly sweet. I was happy. My wings were ready. I was thrilled and excited. I thanked the woman and headed over to my car with my food, thanking the greeter at the main Street Eats Market entrance along the way. I safely crossed the intersection, got into my car, and chowed down. A man parked a couple of spots away from my car made the same journey over to the market. The tandoori gar-par wings are exactly what you'd expect from Rick's Good Eats. The wings were a decent size and meaty. The tandoori spices were so flavourful. There was some heat and it built up as I had wing after wing. There was parsley sprinkled on top, which brought lovely pops of colour. The hints of garlic and parmesan made these wings out-of-this-world delicious! I saw perhaps two food trucks closed during my visit. I don't know whether it was due to weather, but I have now visited two Street Market Eats locations on gloomy days that threatened rain and the variety of food vendors has been great. This one also has Meltwich, Tut's, El Bosco, and more. The next food truck that I have had on my radar is Get Your Own Taters. It happened to be next to Rick's Good Eats. I love tater tots and their gourmet offerings looked incredible. It's crazy that I visited two food trucks in three days. I thought that I could safely say that I had visited both locations. I found out after my visit that a third location in Vaughan just opened this weekend. Well, you know what that means... I need to head to Vaughan soon! I dig this location across from Scarborough Town Centre. I can't wait to return and try more offerings from other food trucks. (277)

So we had to line up to get in. When we got to the end of the line up, we were in front of Laz-Boy's store. But the line moved quickly and we were inside the compound in about 7 minutes after lining up. Once we were inside, it was food trucks galore! After browsing on the numerous options available, we decided on something we have never tried: The Funky Patacon. We ordered a Flying Porky (pulled pork) and Pata Grilled (beef tenderloin). The wait time was about 10+ minutes and we got our food. We also ordered 2 drinks from Alijandro's: Pomegranate and Mango Lime lemonades. Onto the food. We have never had plantains before and this was a pleasant surprise. The subtle sweetness of the plantains went really well with the pork and beef tenderloin (respectively). Both tasted great! The drinks were refreshing also. Overall experience was amazing. There will be other food trucks coming soon. Thanks Street Eats Market and STC for hosting and setting things up!
