I suddenly had a crave for burgers, so I decided to take a detour. This burger place has been proudly serving the Oshawa crowd since 1976. They have 2 types of burger you can pick- original or home burger. I was told by a loyal customer who frequently comes here- my boyfriend, that the original patty was frozen and the home burger were fresh grounded AA beef patty, so of course I have to pick the latter one. These were our orders and our thoughts... Home Cheeseburger ($13.21) super juicy... if you didn't wrap your burger before you bite into it, your hands will be soaked in burger drips (don't say I didn't warn you) buns were toasted so it added a little crunch to your bite Mushroom Swiss Burger ($14.69) Also uses fresh beef patty, each bite was super juicy that you just want to keep biting! Mushrooms and onions were both pan-fried, so it added a hint of smokey-ness flavour. Personally, I thought the garlic dill aioli could use a little more garlic or dill... I didn't remember there's aioli until I looked at the menu again Fries and onions included in the combo. Perfect crunch and crisp thick cut fries! Big proportion for what you get and the onion rings were fluffy inside but still have a crunchy shell... almost like a French fry wrapped around a slice of onion Definitely don't mind coming back to try their milkshake in the summer to go along with our burgers! read more

Mr. Burger. I had a teacher in high school names Mr. Burger. He was a science teacher and he was a mean son of a bitch. Man did I hate him. I believe he would drink at school too. Just a really objectionable human being. So that's why I avoided this restaurant for so long. The connection was too much. Boy was I missing out. The burgers? The steak sandwiches? The onion rings? They are better than good but a notch or two below stupendous if that makes sense. The service was friendly. I waited to go back a second time because I couldn't believe this place was that good. I was happily proven wrong. This is one of the best poutines I've had in forever, and the milkshake is soooooo creamy. The first time I went in, I ordered a 4 oz. burger. The ingredients to choose from are simple but tasted fresh. I enjoyed the burger so much, I couldnt believe it was that good. So I made the decision to go a second time. The second visit, I ordered a bacon poutine and a blueberry milkshake. The gravy was the right kind (not everywhere does it right), the bacon wasnt overcooked, the cheese curds were melty and the french fries kept their crunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the milkshake. I wasnt sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed it. And they have many flavour options. Mr Burger may not look great from the outside, but once inside you will experience a proper old-school burger joint. The burgers taste amazing, and price is reasonable for what you get. The fries could be a little better, I found them too salty and not as crisp as I'd like, but they were fine overall. But to be fair, I came here for a good burger more so the fries. We were driving to Windsor and decided to stop at this lovely establishment just off the 401 instead of on of those OnRoutes and let me tell you it was the best decision we made all week. The service was fast considering food is made fresh when you order. The food itself was brilliant and with generous portions, you even had the option to indicate how cooked/crispy you would like your fries, I have never seen something like that before in my life. The decor is a fun little addition with 1950s memorabilia to give a classic dinner feel. Later on our trip we had to stop at A&W and noticed that Mr. Burger was within 5$ of our order from A&W but obviously the quality of Mr. Burger triumphed. Another Oshawa staple. Another Oshawa business south of the 401. This place is so close to GM, that they have a GM burger. There is not an inch of wall space in here that is not covered in a license plate, or some piece of Elvis memorabilia. There is a large seating area, but most people get take out so the only line ups seem to be at the counter. Even though this is a burger place, and my family has been coming here for eons, I prefer their steak sandwich, hot dog or grilled chicken on a bun. Portions - muther flocking huge. Share fries or onion rings. Unless you haven't eaten in days you will not be able to finish your whole meal. Go for their milkshakes, but ditch the gravy. It is watery and made from a cheap mix. The people who work here...miserable....but that is what makes the place what it is. The snarly charm. I've been to this location once for a take out order and ordered online through Uber eats once. On my first visit to this location, I order the steak sandwich. The steak was way over cooked when I returned home, the fries were soggy. I decided to give them a second try a few months later. This time I used Uber Eats. I order two items. One banquet burger combo and a poutine. The combo should come with fries and a drink. When I received the order, they left out the fries and the drink... I only received the burger. I called the store and they blamed Uber Eats for not displaying the order correctly on their screen. I'm not sure how this is possible when every other restaurant has no problem reading the order. The person on the phone really seems to not care, didn't even apologize and suggested I come into the store, with the food I did receive so it can be corrected. The whole point of ordering online for delivery is so you don't have to visit the store.. I guess this concept is lost with the staff working. Frozen patties, frozen fries, gravy from a packet....but sometimes, I get the craving for it. Prices are reasonable and the portions are ample. My usual order is the banquet burger, fries and gravy on the side with a Coke. The joint is full of character from the vinyl records on the ceiling, to the suit worn by Elvis in a glass case to the vintage license plates on the wall. The people behind the counter have been working there for years and it shows. That's exactly what I like about this place. Sure you could get a fancier burger somewhere else, that's not what Mr Burger is about though. This is a working man's joint for a working man's appetite. Long enough to know that I HAD to finally eat at Mr. BURGER even though I never stepped in this almost 40yr Oshawa mainstay the 12 yrs I lived in Whitby/Oshawa. Saying that, I've never had a Steak sandwich as good as the one I had at Mr. Burger. They carve the meat from the sirloin proper! I mean really?? So good, and the bun was perfect. Admittedly, I didn't enjoy the onion rings but man are they famous! And huge. If you're driving through Durham on your way to points East, you'll get a much better feed stopping at Mr. BURGER vs any of the On Route rest stops. I am from Montreal originally and return home often. I know each and every over-priced generic rest stop. Oh, and they have JUST introduced a homeburger...6oz never frozen. Been going here for close to 30 years. They should really rename it to Mr. Steak, for once you try one, you will never order their hamburger again. Always cooked to my liking, a little on the pink side. Order your fries well done, if you like them crispy. The gravy is good and once on a while, I will get the poutine, with real kurd! Try the shakes if you are a shake lover. The rings are too greecy for my liking, but hey! that is just my taste. The place hasn't changed much since I have been going there. Adding more records, license plates, and the odd collectable to the wall, is the only things that is different. If you have never been, it is worth a look see.
