Color me impressed! I stopped in on a desperate search for something I couldn't find despite hitting up several other stores. I didn't have high hopes but they were right next to my gym so I figured what the hell, and much to my surprise they had exactly what I was looking for! I don't think I would have otherwise stopped in here for anything, but doing so gave me a chance to look around and I was actually surprised at their produce and meat departments. They had a pretty decent selection here and the prices were great! The choices throughout the rest of the store were limited a bit. They have brand names, but not the quantity or selection you might be used to if you normally shop at Walmart or Hy-Vee. Still if you are on a budget and don't want to subsist merely on Ramen or Chef Boyardee you can get a full weeks groceries for a reasonable price. read more

My husband called the store and asked for the price on 2 liter diet cokes and was told it was 98 cents. I went to the store that afternoon and the sign at the bottom of where the diet cokes was at said 98 cents and I was charged 2.18 for each one for 12 of the diet cokes. Noticed this when I got home and then they said that the price was only for the regular cokes. this is very poor business practice as I know what I saw so will never shop at this store again and will continue to shop at Walmart for all my needs from now on as not lied to from them. read more

Food 4 Less has came a long way in the years. While supplies are more limited than Walmart they have definitely more than ALDI. It use to be that F4L was a few cents less than Walmart but now I'd say they are cheaper!! Not to mention they are keeping checkout employees! We drive 17 miles round trip to shop here and it's worth it to us! If you haven't been in awhile try them again I guarantee you'll save on your bill. The Food for Less store wasn't busy early Saturday morning. Nice. The produce seemed fresh, the meat section was nicely stocked but no fish. The rest of the store was pretty well stocked but everything was way over priced. Example, $9 for a jar of mayo? Phew. Food for Less gets to keep the dressing for someone else. Not me. Two stars for having well stocked shelves of stuff I can't afford. read more

One of the best things about this store is their customer service! They are some of the nicest people I have ever encountered when shopping. The prices are much lower for most items than the local big chains and the employees won't let you pass up the coupons to save even more. I went here occasionally through my college years, and I gotta say... while it's better suited for families (caters to folks with kids especially), I like the bag it yourself method of saving... along with just liking the place. It's big, walking it gives good exercise (it's a bit like a maze), and sometimes they have deals that make you question if it's really what it says on the box/can/other receptacle. While I didn't frequent it nearly as much as Aldi (which may not be there anymore?) or even my favorite, Harter House (opposite end of the spectrum), I did like to browse the place... gave me an excuse to try stuff that was unpopular, and oftentimes, I found a new love for a food I'd never tried (since I was, after all, 18)... I'm glad they are still there. They serve a good purpose for modest-income families! read more

I moved here from San Diego California, the prices there were much lower than here. But then again I noticed that all the food prices here in Springfield Missouri are much higher than in California on average steaks here are $4.00 lb higher I don't get it. I see a cow standing across the street and it cost more than one that's not in a big city, I do see that Sea Food here is the same price as there don't understand that when it's shipped way cross country to get here. And Sales Where are The Sales ? I see no sales on food like in California. I know housing, utility's and gasoline is alot cheaper here, but come on at least out there I could live on $25.00 a week in food. And another thing I noticed this town has no selection, u don't carry my Brand of Hot sauce, Chile, Old Bay seasoning lots of little things that Im ordering from out of state and shipping to my home. read more

I have never been a discount shopper for good until now. What is it gonna take for you to be too? Do you want to continuing wasting money on food just because your food market has fancy bags or has a fancy name ? Good for you. I mean it. You are a lucky duck. For the rest of us rich or poor - food for less is where it is at. The very well stocked produce sections larger than any place in town isn't enough to draw you in? Then you don't like to eat. It's not 5 stars for me because there is sometimes a lot to choose from my pick your freshness carefully. The meat department seems to be all prepacked. But the prices are great. Tasty ground beef. Awesome pork chops. I bought the packages and split them up to freeze. Dry goods, spices, canning supplies, a cleaning products aisle that is 2 nd to none and none of the annoying crowds at wal-Mart. Food for less is clean. It's well stocked. They even play boopy music to make shopping fun! Aldi is next door and big lots across the parking lot. I place with circulars where to stop first and try to comparison shop cause I can and it makes sense to stretch my budget to the max. I could I suppose shop else where but I wonder- what is wrong with me that I like throwing money away. read more

It had been a few years since I'd been to Food 4 Less, and if I had known there were picketers in front, I wouldn't have driven 30 min across town to get there. I bought a lot of meats there, thinking they were cheaper than I could get at Walmart or Price Cutter, but it turned out their quality was very poor!!! First I started with the supposedly lean ground beef, which was supposed to be 93% lean, and turned out to have a lot of fat to drain after cooking. Then the "ribs" I bought, turned out to be just a slab of meat with slices cut across it!! No bones. The beef stew meat had terrible flavor, even after my normal cooking with other things, each bite of meat was gross. I'm afraid to try anything else I bought from there!!!! read more
