We recently moved to the Springfield area and were looking for a place with high quality meat at good prices. I'm glad we found Harter House. The meat is fresh and the prices are really good. I know I can buy cheaper at the big box stores, but I'm tired of buying pre frozen blobs of tasteless goo pretending to be chicken, beef or pork. The service at the meat department needs to improve. I arrived at the counter and see only two butchers attending customers. No big deal, I can wait. But a couple shows up AFTER me and gets served instead of me. This is not the first time it's happened there and I don't want to bring bias as an issue, but it makes you say, "Hmm, something's not right here ". No worries, I'm sure there are other meat shops that will accept my business with respect. read more

When in Texas one of my favorite places for local merchants is HEB and when in my hometown of Springfield I have come to appreciate Harter House for this same reason. Evans Foods is local to Springfield and their Hopsing sauces are delicious and I was seeing all their flavors to choose from. And the meat department is also top notch here. I think Harter House is excellent for supporting local businesses and the meat department is superior to a few other options I won't call out by name. read more

My family has shopped at Harter House since they started on Campbell Street. Bought 2 rib eye steaks at the Eastgate location today. Got home and they were both 1/2 inch thick and one weighed 7.9 ounces and the other 7.1 ounces. They charged me over $28.00 for the 2 steaks. That is over $28.00 per lb. Is that a fair price? read more

This review is strictly for the meat department of Harter House. The place is a regular store, albeit a smaller one like Aldi's or Trader Joe's with a smaller selection of foods that tend to be a bit more upscale but a lot more pricey than what you can find at a regular grocery store. Regular grocery stores have poor meat departments though, which is why you should shop here for all your grilling needs! The selection of meats is huge, the cuts are excellent and qualities are outstanding. They have endless options to choose from, whether you are looking for fish, fowl or moo and the service impeccable! read more

Very nice, clean grocery store. Big hot and cold deli section.. Eating area has beer on tap. Juice bar, Starbucks, florist, pharmacy and bbq station. No signs for restroom. Follow blue hallway on the right entrance to the store and restrooms are down the hall to the left. GF selections and pay by food weight dining options. They made mistake and then we as their customers have to paid for it. This is my first time at the Harter's house. I came to buy and paid for 12 lobster tails. The seafood employee packed it for me in a white paper and when I got home there are only 11 tails. I called for customer service over there, and after about 5 minutes taking to him, he said I need to talk to a manager. The manager asked me to explain again. It is really frustrating. Then I called back and explained it to her, she said I need to bring my receipt to the super market and get the refund or a lobster. Is it worth to spend time on this situation??? Had to think outside the box during covid19 - what normally would be a trip to the local butcher, i had to explore other options on how to source my protein. did a little research, found this gem of a place. 2 beautifully marbled pieces of tri tip arrived a few days after ordering. i think that is amazing service, considering the times. arrives frozen in a sealed styrofoam box, lots of dry ice to assist in travel packaged in butchers paper and tape read more

Most notorious for the meat counter. Their ground is normally the best price in the area and better quality meat. Their bacon burger (ground hamburger with bacon) is excellent for hamburgers or meatloaf. Their homemade brats (traditional, philly, jalapeño cheddar etc) are amazing. I love the brat burger patties. They always have great steak sales and I've never been disappointed in the flavor. The meat bundles are great value. Their beverage selection is quality. I never leave disappointed. The service you get is incredible. Friendly, desire to help, and very service friendly. I was once looking for something specific that I use to get in Texas. I asked if they could get it, and they ordered it and now sell it on my recommendation. Don't see something you've always loved or grew up around, ask, they aim to serve. Awesome store with great customer service ! From the very first time we walked through the door at this store we have been happy with it. The meat department is awesome, and their produce section is always fresh. I always end up walking up and down every isle even if I only went there for one thing. You can order from the meat department in advance and have it ready when you get there, which is great when you are in a hurry ! Not to mention having you groceries carried to your car for you. Not a lot of places still do that. The last time my husband and I were there a gentleman carried our bag for us, even though we told him we could get it. As we were walking to our car talking to him, he introduced himself as the owner ! He bagged and carried out our groceries ! If that is not customer service I do not know what is ! read more

Harter House is fabulous and worth the higher prices. I can't afford to shop there exclusively but if I could, I probably would! Their old school grocery store is far from a Mom & Pop. It is top notch in every way, from the old-timey meat department (sparkling clean by the way) to well-stocked but smaller selection, to the customer service. It's what a grocery store should be. They offer a large selection of local products like honey, molasses, and delicious Memory Lane milk in glass bottles (well worth the couple of bucks for deposit on the glass bottle...trust me). I always find something unique to try when I drop in. This store is great! read more
