    Breaded tenderloin, thick and juicy
    Jim J.

It was a beautiful day so the wife and I took the back roads to Fontanet Tavern. The place did not look like much on the outside, but once you walked through the doors, we were warmly greeted. The service was very friendly and quick heck we didn't know anybody in there, but we ended up talking to quite a few very nice folks. We had the breaded tenderloin and cheese fries. We split the tenderloin and my wife said it's quite possibly the best one she had ever eaten. I have to agree. Cheese, fries had bacon, lots of cheese, sour cream, and jalapeños they were delicious. This was way too much food for the two of us. The portion of tenderloin she left left behind on her plate was bigger than most restaurants serve. Did I mention they had ice cold beer on tap at a very reasonable price. I wish it were closer because I would definitely make this my watering hole, by the way, they only take cash.

    Reunion of old friends...

I grew up in nearby Terre Haute, Indiana, and had heard of the new ownership and great food at the Fontanet Tavern for a while. I finally had an opportunity, on a return home, to meet some old friends, drink a few beers and enjoy some outstanding food. The place is very welcoming, the staff friendly, and the food was delicious. Can't wait to go back!!!

    Amber Bock draft beer, yummy.

Some of the best food I've ever had! Grilled tenderloin is absolutely amazing! Their Bloody Mary's are a meal all by their self.

Today we did the mushrooms, loaded cheese fries and the Cajun grilled tenderloin and we split it all.

Used Yelp search to find a restaurant as we passing thru Terre Haute(on I70) and found The…read moreTerminal Public House. Looked at several of the reviews and knew it was a place to visit. The building itself is over a 100 years old and is on the National Register of Historic Places, this helps its cool vibe. We came in at 12:30 on a December Thursday, it was absolutely packed, what appeared to be multiple team/holiday gatherings. We were told a 20 minute wait, but we eventually were able to find a seat at the bar in less time. With as busy as it was, I was concerned food coming out may be impacted, but it came out quick. Allie was our bar tender, she was very friendly and attentive, shout out to her. First I started with a local beer, wango tango. I would call it a hazy pale ale. It was perfect for me. Had grilled shishito peppers. It was my first time to ever eat one, I loved them. I enjoyed them better without the sauce, but the wasabi Mayo did provide a nice kick. I ate the fried wontons with the sauce. We shared the crab Rangoon flatbread. It did not disappoint, and had a healthy serving size. I would get it again and again! Then I went with a comfort food, fried bologna sandwich. It came with a side, but the sandwhich alone was enough. I added a close pic of the sandwich, it had two thick cut pieces of meat. Impressive. It came with melted cheese, that was a twist for me, but I wanted to try it the way it was on the menu first. I eventually added ketchup, lol. We now have a new place to stop as we're passing by on 70. If I lived closer, i definitely would be a regular!!!

It's dated in the best possible way: dim lighting, worn-in character, familiar faces, and that unmistakable local hangout atmosphere where regulars clearly outnumber first-timers. The highlight here is the Tweety Burger, and honestly, that's the reason to come. It reminded me immediately of the classic Midwest style you'd find at places like Minor-Dunn in Highland, Indiana. The patty is smashed thin and cooked flat on the grill, giving it those crispy edges and deep, savory flavor you only get from a well-seasoned griddle that's seen years of use. It tastes homemade--not engineered, not trendy, just a straightforward burger done right. You can tell they take their time with the food. Nothing feels rushed or mass-produced. The burger comes out hot, flavorful, and satisfying without trying to be gourmet or overcomplicated. No towering Instagram presentation--just a solid, honest burger that delivers exactly what you want from a local pub. Service matched the vibe perfectly. The staff were personable, welcoming, and genuinely friendly in that small-town way that makes you feel less like a customer and more like a guest stopping by a neighborhood spot. Charlie's isn't flashy. It's not modern. And if you're looking for upscale dining or trendy décor, this isn't the place. But if you want an authentic mom-and-pop tavern experience with a burger that locals clearly treat as a tradition, it's worth the stop. Best advice: stick with the Tweety Burger. Don't overthink the menu. Order it, enjoy the atmosphere, and experience a piece of local Terre Haute character. Not a destination restaurant--but absolutely a solid local classic you should try at least once.

It didn't take long for a server to say hello and get us our drinks. Food didn't take long. Mother in law like her fish and onion rings , she said they were good and not at all greasy. Husband liked his omelette and tater tots. I got the gravy and biscuits and a side of bacon. The gravy was good, not the best ever but good. The bacon was crispy and flavorful. Drinks were kept filled even though our server got slammed with a huge party that trickled in little by little. Prices were super reasonable, We'd do this again when in the area.
